You are wise beyond your years. I'm 2 years Facebook-free and it's a big weight off my shoulders. The negativity was so bad that I was dreading reading anything any more...so why put yourself through that? Just exit it, and the most important part -- DELETE THE APP OFF YOUR PHONE. The constant reminders will go away and your stress and outlook on life will normalize. Appreciate you! ✌️

This was SOOO encouraging to see! For years I've gone through the same cycle of deactivating for months at a time to coming back, then eventually realizing how much time I'm wasting again & repeat. TBH I've always felt like a slave to it though due to music events I play & releases I have to promote. 😑😑I just feel like I'm obgliated to the promoters/label owners & that I'd piss em off if I didn't. For example I've currently been deactivated for a month & a half but it's like here we go again, I need to come back to share around my event in a couple weeks I've seriously been debating lately about just sticking to my FB artist page + a little IG & Tiktok from here on out & saying goodbye for good to my personal FB. Despite being INCREDIBLY more productive off of it, there was a time where it actually felt fun at least. The majority of what I see in my feed these days is negativity & really rubs off on you IRL & It's like WTH kind of way is this to pass my time?

    Almost 10 years facebook free!
I almost never use Instagram, and I have no Twitter/TikTok.
    It's just a better life.

I feel you 110% Jade, I escaped social media about 2 months ago and I feel so much better mentally. Unfortunately like yourself it has turned me off of making videos, as it makes me feel as if I need it for those dopamine’s. Which is untrue because I personally like sharing music with the world. But it does make me feel that way. More power to the awakened

I'm 50, left Facebook over eight years ago. The feeling is pure liberation!
I've avoided Twitter, Insta, TikTok... You are correct - They are ALL the same black hole of otherwise productive time.

I had no idea you were no longer on FB - I've been away a long time as well. I was an early member of Dawless Jammin, it was fun at first but went downhill pretty quickly - but all of FB went downhill fast! So glad I came to my senses and realized that FB (or any social media) is not needed to have a proper career in the world of Audio.

Congrats on taking that step! I’ve deactivated my Facebook account about two months ago, and asides from a few useful FB groups, I’m not missing much. I’ve listened to several audiobooks in recent months, especially “Stolen Focus,” and that really opened my eyes to how insidious Facebook and other social media platforms treat its users, despite sitting on data that otherwise would be valuable for users but detrimental for its business model. Facebook is definitely the most egregious, so it wasnt’ that have to move off of it. It’s not going to be easy for most people, but really getting a handle on such things makes for smarter and more informed users. Thanks for sharing your story!

As far as advice this is your best video yet. Left Facebook 6 years ago and Instagram 8 months ago. Never had and will never have TikTok. That app is straight up poison. TH-cam is the best compromise out of all of them. 💙👊

  • @manucontrovento

totally agree with you and I made the same path.. we could talk about it all day. It's very easy and very common that social media makes you lose a lot of time (=your life). And sometimes it also happens that one person (an artist, but not only) decides to leave all social media but then he/she realizes that without sharing on FB, the contents published online don't reach that big amount of people. So you come back in and the game restarts. Since some year I'm not producing/performing anymore, and when I'll start again, I don't know if come back on FB or not... On one side I don't want to. On the other hand it's useful for people to reach your art... keep in touch with you for live gigs and everything... I don't know! Maybe we should "just" force ourselves to limit our surfing to check incoming things just for 10 minutes a day and not more. And to kill the temptation to answer comments, posts, and things we wouldn't care about if not on FB in that moment.

Thank you. I’ve been saying for 2 years “going to delete Facebook and never did. I’ve only posted a total of 3 times and felt I was getting false praise that didn’t really matter or seeing people share things that really don’t need to be exposed to the world. Thanks for speaking what I didn’t.

I'm glad you did a video about this. I left Facebook about 5 years ago, let the account get deleted, then went back about a year later in a very limited form. I check it maybe twice a month, and I only keep the Lite messaging app on my phone. I've found it to be a happy medium where I can stay in touch with a few select people, and use Marketplace, but otherwise, nada.
The thing I was thinking as I watched your video was, "gee, r/synthesizers has this exact problem!" 😂

I’ve been off Facebook since my aunt in Mexico lashed out at me about a joke I made about cartels in Mexico. Little did I know her husband had been carjacked and left on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. That was 9 years ago.

This is a great video. I am still on Facebook but have toned down any music posts the past few years. I have deactivated about three times since I joined 15 years ago. I am currently working out if I even want my photography there now.
Posting specialized creative content like I do is easier if I understand that
    a) sometimes the right people don't see it at the right time
    b) when I can tell for sure that someone gave it a shot until the end, less is more, because thumbs up mean almost nothing.

Hey JAde - You are soooooo right! I avoided being sucked in and only use it every couple of days to check local events but so many of my friends live there and post all their personal details. It's a sad world alright. And what's even sadder is that the current generation see this as the normm. We're doomed, doomed... 😱 😊

Deleted FB a long time ago. I don't have the IG app on my phone but sometimes I check IG on my laptop but only my feed but I don't feel the pull. What I also did is install a browser extension which removed TH-cam suggestions. I noticed that when I was looking at videos, I would scroll down to check top comments. When looking at top comments, you're getting bombarded by suggestions, which are a huge distraction.

So true. I've not made a TH-cam video for 4 weeks and just been watching endless pointless videos to pass the time. Less watching, more creating needed! Facebook has long been dead for me though. The only notifications I allow are from our neighbourhood group. Nothing else matters.

  • @joegrant413

Left Facebook probably about 7 years ago. The only hassle is some small businesses use Facebook for info and for appointments. And I hear Facebook Marketplace is great. BUT I haven't gone back.
Typing in comments to great TH-camrs like you is about all I post that's close to "social media".

  • @AndyTanguay

TH-cam gear videos are also culprits of dopamine fixes. A great thinker who studies culture once said, “I haven’t decided if social media is the worst invention of the century or… The worst invention ever”.

I’m in my 40s. I use Facebook because I have a big family and we never call each other. I just started using tik tok and Instagram for music. Up until one vid got over 1k likes…. I may get 2 or 3 likes on anything I do for my music. I guess I was never on Facebook like that. I don’t understand tik tok. My wife and I share an account and for our music and podcast its good. But for anything else….. nope.

Agree on FB and other platforms, manipulative. Definitely having an influence on young people. Left FB but got stuck on Reddit for a bit. VR is the next thing though, will be tough to avoid that one when it hits.
Find the short attention span of users on all these platforms interesting. People don't even read anything more than 3 lines or watch anything that lasts more than 2/3 minutes. Is what tiktok plays into. Definitely unhealthy brain training.
