      Hi from the UK.. I'm so pleased you like this, it's been up for a while, and glad most people seem to enjoy it. I know it's dated, but it is of it's time, and very entertaining, and I love it ! Cheers. Graham.xx

    Excellent show i was born in 1984 so first time seeing it but love cilla's voice it goes to any type of genre of music, Shame she has gone just a great performer, i think people loved her of all ages because she was real/herself and down so earth even with all her success, performers like that i do like more, she never changed

    Graham, what can I say but THANK YOU! I remember having to work the night this was shown (I was a Charge Nurse) and I was SO disappointed at having to miss it. Tonight, Graham, you have made me very, very happy. (I was going to say you've made an old man very happy, but I'm too young to be 32 years older than when this was first broadcast!!) Wasn't Cilla simply marvellous? I think people forget how good she was. She was a TRUE STAR. I remember seeing her at the Palladium, the Palace, in cabaret (at the Commodore in Nottingham) and, the year this was broadcast in Jack and the Beanstalk at the Birmingham Hippodrome. She was simply magnificent. I am still stunned at her death, and cried at the last song she sang in this special: "Now it's time to say good night". Good night Cilla, and thank you for being there for over 50 years of my 62 years. Thank you, Graham x

      ***** I have just read your wonderful comments, thank you for them, these alone have made it well worth the time it took to edit, transfer and upload this lovely show. I am really pleased that it made you so happy, that's what I was hoping for. I never got to see her live, but she seemed to always be there when I was growing up, on TV and her 45's. I'm now 60, and will always remember her very, very fondly. I would like to have met her, sadly, I never did. x

      ***** Hello 'Our Graham'! I have a VHS copy of Cilla's Celebration (30th anniversary 90 minute special). I don't have the software or the know how to edit, transfer and upload it; shall I send it to you to do? Just a thought, if you'd like a "little job"!!

      ***** Hello there cakehole53.. ... sorry, but I don't know your name I'm afraid.
      As you know, the show I uploaded to youtube, was from a disc that I burnt from my old Betamax. I did this disc many years ago, using my DVD recorder that I then had, with it, I could copy video tapes to disc. Unfortunately, I no longer have my DVD recorder, Betamax or VHS player , meaning I no longer have the necessary equipment to copy anything from tape now. However, having the disc I originally made, I was able to use software on my computer to improve the quality just a little, before uploading it to you tube, but I'm really sorry, this means I can't do the transfer you speak about. I'm sorry my friend.

    Say what you will about Cilla she did have a natural warmth to her on set during a time when most English TV presenters created quite a cold, turgid atmosphere.

  • @KaydeyRai
    @KaydeyRai 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Cilla (and her honking goose singing voice) were an acquired taste and this is low rent ITV tat at its cheesiest but still it’s nostalgic in its crapness and strangely watchable so thanks for posting. BTW Was this one of the final screen appearances of the wonderful and talented Diana Dors ? - she died May 1984, I’m guessing this was filmed nov/dec 1983

    • @GrahamJBower
      @GrahamJBower  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're probably correct about it being Diana Dors last appearance, as this was aired Christmas 1983, although certainly filmed weeks, if not months, before that. I'm glad in your own way you seemed to enjoy it.

    • @jamesmt142
      @jamesmt142 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Possibly earlier than that. I know someone who worked as a dancer in television through the late 80's and early 90's and said it wasn't uncommon to be recording Christmas specials in July. Quite possible too that the tapes of the various USA performances were physically shipped to LWT, given how expensive satellite was in 1983, with only the interviews being done down the line. Even the Eurovision Song Contest didn't move to satellite distribution until 1985.

    • @christianmorris8065

    WOW from Betamax!
    I'd say this is better then many VHS recordings!

    • @GrahamJBower
      @GrahamJBower  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it certainly was better than any VHS recording would have been on the original recording. Betamax, as you''ll probably already know, wrapped the tape around the head of the machine about a third more, and thus, was able to write and read more information to the tape, and resulted in better quality recordings. It was, as far as I know, the revelry between VHS and Betamax that ended the Beta era, I don't know why VHS won that battle, cost i suppose. Anyway, hope you enjoyed the show.

      I agree, it packs a LOT into 50 minutes or so. A production like this would need a two hour slot today. It's cheesy and hasn't aged well at all, but my goodness it's so tight.

  • @jamesmt142
    @jamesmt142 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I mean to be fair, this is peak LWT 1980's Light Entertainment. They loved their slightly soft looking pictures and heavily compressed sound on the South Bank.
    That said, although it's not aged well at all it packs A LOT into a one hour slot wheras productions today are a lot slower paced and need to take their time over everything. Cheese aside, this is a very tight, barely pausing for breath production.
    I assume the audience are on tape?
    Also, would American crews have produced the bits from the USA, or would Union rules in 1983 mean LWT would have to had flown British crews over?

    Miss Cilla, she was a good laugh, but when she sang using contrasting soft and hard vocals, like her rendition of Lionel’s All Night Long at the start with the kids, I think the hard vocals made her voice sound ugly and spoiled the song. Would’ve liked to hear her do the tam bo lee say de moia (whatever) bits!

    She came across and insincere and pretentious and that was all it took for me to dislike her intensely.

      @@daviddixon1011 At 15 I was too young to recognise insincerity and pretentiousness in a person but I sure recognised it a few years later (when I was 20) and I hated those aspects of anyone's character and ignored the people involved with a ''Fu** You'' thought and made sure thay were never a part of my life or even a part of my thoughts afterwards. @@daviddixon1011 As you say mate....to each his own. Plus there are many tales of Cilla NEVER speaking in her scouse accent when she was talking to strangers that were very famous and wealthy. Believe it or not I still liked her, it was her false image I didn't like. If she had stayed the same lass from when I first saw her on tv in '63 or so I would have still loved her to bits. She became a different person as the fame and fortune (and years) overtook her. But I believe totally that she was murdered because she was given proof one of her showbiz buddies was a pedo. She was going to spill the beans so she was terminated well before her time and her death made to look accidental.
