  • This video shows speakers that I made to train my neighbors dogs to stop barking. The whole set up costs under $20.00. Over a few weeks I have stopped the dogs from barking. I received a lot of thanks from my side neighbors on stopping the barking.

I lived next to a barking dog for 7 years. I moved out 9 years ago, and I recently found out I have PTSD to this day that gets triggered everytime a high pitched dog barks. I had anxiety attacks randomly and went to a psychologist, who refered me to a hearing specialist who, after 4 appointments and many tests, confirmed it was PTSD from the dog barking all those years ago. I didn't think that was a thing, but apparently it is. So if you think you may have experienced that, you're not going crazy.

@@BigEsGarage i have it to. i lived in a bad area where i heard subwoofers ALL day. and gunshots. my mom still lives there and when i go to visit her i go into a major panic attack in about 5 minutes and cant visit my own mom. i use to live 3 doors down from her and had to move because people were having 100+ people parties. on top of that, our dog was mauled and ripped open by a pitbull
i sold everything i had and moved. i moved to a village that had virtually no crime in its census. i been here a year an going to a psychiatrist for my ptsd from the previous area. and then a month ago it happened....new neighbors moved here from out of state and put a pen in their backyard facing my house. leaving their dogs in there 12 hours a day. about 2 months ago i got a bad infection. my body doesnt agree with antibiotics but ive been forced to take 2 diff kinds to kill the infection over the past few months. i throwup and am nautious the entire day. i called the dog warden of the county and they couldnt do anything but ask the people to stop, they had no jurisdiction inmy village. my village is so small we dont have cops, just a mayor. i called him and he never called back. i called city hall and they said "you moved into a farm area, dogs bark". that was their answer. this dog barks from 7am to 7pm. every single home in this area has 1-3 dogs that are all trained. this is the only nuisance dog. finally i decided to confront the neighbor, politely. i took 6, yes 6 anxiety pills to calm me and sedate me enough to calmly go and have a polite conversation. i brought my medical papers and pics of my dog that was attacked. i rang the doorbell and politely said can i talk to you about your dog? she responded WHAT ABOUT MY DOG!!!!! i knew this was going to happen, but i figured i had to do it if im going to go to court is at least say i tried. i offered to buy a section of a fence etc. and she wanted to rip my head off. i explained my medical conditions and she was the most unsympethetic person i ever talked to saying that has nothing to do with me or my dog. thats where i decided to walk off. now im researching courts but it really dont seem like ill have much luck. i just bough this home 8 months ago. i already hate it. it was my dream home and its become something i despise now. im ready to put it on the market instead of living with even more ptsd then i already have

Laws need to be made MUCH stricter and then enforced so that neighbors don't have to go to war against neighbors. Nuisance noise like barking dogs and music should not extend beyond the property line. If government can't address this issue, why do we have government?

People should have the freedom to not have to listen to a fucking dog barking for hours and hours. That's not exaggeration for many people who have lived in such situations for years. For myself, I've ended up in this situation at each of the last 4 residences I've moved to. My sympathies to anyone who puts up with insessent dog barking. I put up with dogs barking for over six years . . . not just occasional barking, but 24/7 at any time and for long durations. Cops were called, did nothing, so I called animal control, no help until I contacted city council and the dog controller's boss, who got on their case -- records were kept, animal control came out for a week and parked to listen -- then I and a neighbor went to court. This was first dealing with two pit bulls not far from my bedroom windows. I thought of doing window treatments to at least make my sleeping peaceful; however, being retired, I was a prisoner of these dogs in my own home . . . and you just get fed up with the lack of concern when the police drive by and the dogs, of course, do not cooperate as if “they know”. But the first time, I had a neighbor with school kids, who participated, and we both went to court. The dogs were a granddaughter's boyfriend's dogs -- the judge gave them three days or thirty days in jail -- the dogs were gone.
About three months -- same family, only this time a grandson bought two more pit bulls, and I went through the same things all over again . . . even had to point out to the cop that there was a noise ordinance, let alone the dog nuisance ordinance, so he finally went to the door. I listened, and all the cop did was sympathize with the grandson. Again, animal control, but little to no help. A different neighbor, who had to get up early to work, finally had had enough, and she found out the name of the renter -- I called her and she realized she was responsible and the sad thing is -- she could have stopped it long before in both cases, because it was in their rental agreement -- NO DOGS. She quickly agreed and the dogs were gone in three days.
With a number of months to a year, a NEW neighbor moved in unbeknownst to me as having FIVE (5) dogs, one of which was a border collie. Same thing all over again, cops, animal control, court (by myself), twice -- but this time, a basic slap on the wrist by what appeared to be an animal loving judge. I think she might have had to go to animal training, but she was saying in court that she “couldn't afford it” -- but consider the cost of animal feed -- FIVE DOGS, vet bills, etc., and not once in over six years did I see her walking the animals or hear much in the way of interacting with the dogs. She would not use a dog collar to train them and obviously did nothing else to stop them aside from putting up a tarp to stop them fromseeing through the fence . . . which did little to nothing to stop them barking. I did get a sound devise, that worked for a week or two and then must have stopped using it. Needless to say, I was furious. I did ask animal control about the legal use of the dog whistle, and her response, rather vague, but said she saw no problem “as long as you didn't blow directly in their ears!” Even animal control was annoyed when trying to notify her of a subpoena to court. The dogs CONTINUED to bark. The frustrating thing is that other neighbors will complain, but NOT get involved.
I took this man's advice, but instead of making speakers with the PVC, etc., I bought some piezo tweeters from Parts Express, along with two capacitors to stop low frequencies and a small resistor to protect the little amp from too much ohm overload. It does stop them, but you have to be consistent . . . I had even tried a dog whistle, which helped, but one gets tired of jumping up and down and gets puffed out blowing a whistle all the time, so the setup helps there also.
We have since then gained some more barking dogs in the neighborhood. City council won't help -- POLITICS, of course. But the dog whistles DO, so I have to remind them by simply turning it on for a few minutes if they seem to forget -- they do not like it.
Some neighbors may complain if you use a recording of the whistles if they are too audible and are heard by your neighbors . . . just use the one's that are less to not audible to human ears. One more thing: DO NOT get yourself into legal problems by doing anything to the dogs or the owners -- you do not want to jepordize yourself legally by doing so -- that is not worth it, although I do empathize, trust me, with your plight, and the thoughts do cross one's mind to get relief. IF you happen to have neighbors who will stand with you, it will make it easier to get the dogs removed; otherwise, it is hard for a single home to do so -- trust me, I know!

We bought what we thought was our dream house and quickly realized one dog could ruin all the years you’ve save up and all the paper work we went though to get our home.. my kids now sleep with headphones in because they weren’t getting any sleep being woken up over and over takes a toll on you. I’ve called animal control, I’ve called police, I’ve posted on fo and all I get is “oh that poor dog” poor dog? How about the poor humans ! We bought a dog barking house gadget and it didn’t work ..I’ve read that the dum er the dog the less chance it will work and this is definitely a dumb dog. We are now talking about selling our house because it’s becoming to the point where I’m so frustrated I’m snapping and grouchy from not sleeping kids grades have gone down from no sleep... it’s sad how selfish people that don’t get a dog because they love it can ruin others lives!

Wow you really went through it. I got one of the dog whistle cellphone apps and am about to try putting it on the megaphone.
My guess is that the noise will only work when the dog knows his bark is going to have repercussions. So you have to time the whistle with the bark. Is that true?
A lot of the dog bark devices I've seen stop working after a while. I could tell by measuring the output with an ocilliscope. It puts out a ~ 40MHz square wave when working or else nothing.
I also got a piezo speaker, and an amp but need a little help making a circuit out of it. I'm not sure what value resistor will protect the piezo and if it should be in series or parallel to the piezo.. and the capacitor etc.

If I make a loud noise, like slam a door, the Beagle runs into the house. So, I've tied a string to a weight that's hanging inside my metal shed right next to the fence. When he starts barking I give it a quick pull and it slams up against the metal making quite the loud sound, and the Beagle runs back into the house.
If I didn't love animals so much, I can assure you that Beagle would have somehow vanished YEARS ago! I'd dog nap it, but it's such a stupid, lazy, and fat dog, I'd never find anyone to take it.

It's easy to fix dog barking. Train them, when they start. You start the commands until the learn. If there is relapses you repeat the training. If the dog resist and ignore your command, put him in your bedroom for 30 or 60minutes, and then bring him back, if he barks again, correct him, if he insists, put him back to a room. Another method: the mouth device, your turn on, when he barks, he will shut up, and then he will learn gradually and won't need anymore to turn on the button, you just pretend it's on, keep using it even if it's off to make sure the dog won't get relapse. It's just like using those device vibration for pain, massage zzzzzzzzz. It benefits everybody and you live anywhere with no problems.

    • @tutsecret499

It's so easy to train a dog to have good manners. There different methods: The Petco training included diploma graduation for good manners $100 to 200 training fee. Or put anti bark collar that will be less necessary gradually, you end up putting the collar without turning on because the dog already knows if he barks, something will happen, and then you don't need anymore the collar. And repeat the methods if there is relapse. Or the owner should train the dog, when barks: No! if he responds well, then compliments and treat. Has to be consistent the training over and over.

I had a neighbor, that when she wasn't home had 3 non-stop barking dogs.. The problem was the neighbor worked 3erd shift, so the dogs would bark all night long, only 20 feet from my bedroom window. After calling the police numerous times at 3am, calling animal control etc, showing videos to animal control and my neighbor. After 6 years of this, I finally moved from a home that I truly loved, just because of the out of control neighbor dogs. (I tried numerous bark-stop devices with no effect). Barking dog laws need to be stricter and penalties much stronger, like mandatory dog removal, on the second complaint. ($500 penalty to get each one back). In order for you dog whistle to be effective, it needs to activate whenever the dogs bark, then turn off after 30 seconds or so.

It absolutely astounds me how people can just let their dog do that to the entire neighborhood. I see their actions as extremely aggressive.

I admire your spirit, ingenuity and handiness. I lack the handiness part. We made our final move away from subdivisions into a nice rural residential area on a four acre lot. The house next door sold to the nicest family -- who became hostile within 60 days, trespassing, walking back and forth along the front and sides of our home. So we had a survey and emplaced some fence posts so as not to restrict the deer's mobility but hoping the neighbors would see the property line and honor it. So the new wonderful neighbors bought a German Shepherd and since they don't have to go to work they walk and train that dog all day long every single day. They installed an invisible fence right up against our fence posts and now they walk it all day long. If we go anywhere near that side of our 4 acre property, the dog aggressively shadows us following u back and forth, barking and growling with human owners in tow, saying nothing. Except occasionally, "gee you're lucky we have an invisible fence!" I cant have something like this device Leonard made because they'd see me emplacing it, or see it in one of my trees and I couldn't really power it or connect it from the house 100 plus feet away. And we have a 400 foot property boundary. But I do wish I could have something like this. These neighbors would escalate somehow. They even send their little girl out with the dog to the far back corner of their property to stare at my husband while the dog barks at him. He feels so awkward. Then the husband comes running out like he was doing something wrong. Lord help us.

I just made this unit and it functions as in the video. I haven't tried it on our area dogs yet but the fundamental problem is, this unit is limited to 20khz and many people can hear at that level. When I turn mine on my wife starts to complain. This is a fun project but not really what we're all looking for. The problem here is getting an ultrasonic unit that has enough power. All those cheap handheld units and those yard units are way too wimpy. Some day some wise person is going to market a super powerful high frequency (above human hearing range) device that can be heard for a mile or more. If such a unit can be produced at a reasonable price, that seller will make a ton of money once the word gets around. This is what everyone wants and so far nobody is doing it.

    • @aquaticspirits4140
      @aquaticspirits4140 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+Aquatic Spirits UPDATE: I finally got a chance to try this unit. I found all those "silent" dog whistles offered online can be heard by humans. They're not true ultrasonic. I didn't have a barking dog problem. My problem is keeping a neighbor's aggressive dog from constantly attempting to attack us in our own yard. I've talked to him about it but nothing is done. So I tried this unit hoping it would keep that dog out of our yard. So far it hasn't worked. And if I turn the volume up the "silent" dog sound is clearly heard by most people. I've since been told that the proper way to go is to order the KEMO Ultrasonic Signal Generator (sold on Amazon.com). One needs the proper speakers for it which are also sold on Amazon. So, I'll try that next.

+Aquatic Spirits Hi there, could you please let us know how you get on with the KEMO Ultrasonic Signal Generator if you decide to try it out? That would be really appreciated :) Thanks! @fro0tyl0opy87 8 ปีที่แล้ว

+fro0tyl0opy87 I've also just found this review for your interest:
I wasnt expecting anything this powerful. When supplied with 12vdc and a piezo tweeter, this little module puts out an oscillating tone that is adjustable via a tiny pot on it's surface. From earsplitting to dog-earsplitting (10khz to 40khz). No volume control, however...and no screw terminals, just short wire leads....but well worth the money!
Can't seem to find anything on distance/ range though. I could do with something perhaps betweeen 50 to 100 feet, but perhaps I'll have to keep dreaming?

    • @aquaticspirits4140
      @aquaticspirits4140 8 ปีที่แล้ว

+fro0tyl0opy87 I'll try to remember to post my results here once I try the unit. I have the generator and am waiting for the speakers. There are videos about this unit. You can add an amp but this requires some electrical knowledge to keep the amp from burning out.

Record the dog barking, then return it through loudspeakers at the dog owner's house until they take the constant barker inside. No more complaints. If it barks all day long inside their house, they will soon get the dog gone. See it outside during the day, just turn it's amplified barking back at it until they take it back inside, so they can't ignore it. Do not break noise ordinance laws by using it before 8 am or after 10 pm.

You should be required to pass a test to prove you are at LEAST a little smarter than a dog to own a dog.
If they are not smart enough to train their dog they should at least be smart enough to identify nuisance behavior and make the appropriate adjustments.
No matter how small or how large a dog is, they can be a very powerful tool with just a little training. They are like an extra set of eyes and ears to alert of of abnormal activity in and around your home. The problem is some owners lack the intelligence to train and/or identify when the dog is a nuisance. Most repetitive sensory input to a human that they cannot escape from is a form of torture.
The Chinese knew this well, it is said that by dripping water on the head/face a bound prisoner for prolonged periods of time, the subject would be rendered insane. ( keyword Chinese water torture) .
And we all know that sleep deprivation is the most common interrogation tool in the world. It can induce a person to say or do things against their will.
The same is true to some extent for the unfortunate neighbors trying to sleep or lead peaceful noise free lives. Repetitive barking especially during sleep hours, whenever that may be, is a form of torture. I don't think its fully understood how detrimental this is to our health, sanity, and everyday lives.

I can't walk my dog down the road in peace without her freaking out at barking dogs and she will pull me towards them. Yes it may be a training issue but wouldn't you freak out over 5 different dogs barking and clawing at a fence trying to get at you if you were a dog?

    Pocket airhorn and a ziptie.
Zip and throw into neighbors yard.

I used a loud air horn a few times. REALLY loud. It did shut the dog up. But the owners called the police because their "autistic" child was annoyed by the sound. REALLY? And junior is NOT annoyed by the sound of a dog barking its ass off all day? Total assholes. Inconsiderate assholes. Dog-free neighborhoods need to be set up in every American city and town. Just like the old smoking and non-smoking sections in businesses. At some point, non-dog-owners are going to reach their breaking point and legislation will be enacted against barking dogs. Until then... we all suffer at the hands of dumb shits who "blow smoke in our faces," laugh, and say, "What??? You don't like that?"

Fair is fair. We wouldnt have to resort to things like this if people would control their dam dogs.

@@CalmAtHome Yup. Also, if you ever want to get revenge on an annoying kid in a restaurant, you can download tone generators to your phone. Just pick a high frequency that can only be heard by young children and play it real loud. It's hilarious to see the kids covering their ears while their irresponsible parents don't hear a thing! Square waves work the best since the sound is quite unpleasant.

Mr. Muniak is a perfect example of what I've been saying for years...which is...listen to the older generation. They have so much knowledge to share if only people will lend an ear. If Mr. Muniak were my neighbor, I would be over at his house every day just to learn from this man. He has so much knowledge to offer and I'll bet some fascinating stories to share, as well. Thank you for sharing, sir. I plan to put your plan to use this weekend.

You could have drilled and installed the speakers before glueing the tubes to the base. MUCH EASIER!

two neighbor's dogs driving me nuts!
The little birdhouse type ultrasonic unit worked for the young pup. The older dog apparently can't hear the sound. Can you provide a parts list for the amplifier and transducer? I need to get something real soon.
    thanks!

Personally, what I do is when there's a period of barking that goes uncorrected...I find a youtube video of a barking dog that sounds most like their dog...one that goes on and on for HOURS...and I turn it up as loud as I can, shut my bedroom door and go and enjoy sometime on tv...it certainly helps get the message across...and if they complain about the barking I can say..."Barking? I don't even HAVE a dog...you idiot!"
