Great review, thanks! Maybe you can answer my question because I bought them for my young kids specifically because the package indicated 16 mile range. So, what does Cobra mean by 16 miles? Under what conditions? I couldn't use them after about two miles. I understand the whole, line-of-site thing but if the package 16 miles, I assumed they would indicate other conditions on the package. Anyway, what you said about the mile, mile and a half is what I got.

Cobra means if your up on the worlds tallest mountain, someone might hear you 16 miles away if there was nothing between you :) wishful thinking. But still a good pair for kids around the neighborhood / farm yard.

what it mean's the the radio which is both F RE S/ G M R S is capable of tieing in to a G M R S tower with A PL tone put into your radio which get into a
      G M R S repeater tower which means you need a fed licensee from THE F C C
to use it then you go from maybe a mile to 20 miles on a tower I have a
licensee for that it said 16 miles on the radio what you read on the box
led you up to that point but not how to do it know you have the how to do it
what you read was sailes hipe with no answers F Amily service is half a watt 1 mile G M R S ( general mobile radio service is 5 watts on hand held
I also Own a 45 watt base unit with a 20 miles range on both radios
good luck have fun and be safe. W R X N 824 clear on your fiinell
