Glucagon Birthday | Day In The Life Type 1 Diabetes 7 years old

- I decided to vlog Henry's 7th Birthday. We had no idea it was the start to a very long week. All three boys ended up getting the same 48 hour virus. Watch to see how his blood sugars were throughout the day and night, see him open his presents and watch how we handled a lot of low blood sugar numbers. As I said at the beginning, we ended up having to give him mini doses of Glucagon because he was in the 40's and low 50's for more than a couple hours. He was unable to drink anymore liquid and very sick throwing up. It worked like a charm. It doesn't spike blood sugar and doesn't make you feel sick when you give mini doses.

I'm almost 22, a few months shy of a full year since being diagnosed, and my biggest frustration is that the people around me don't seem to get that sometimes BG stays low, and even if you eat a high carb food and don't correct, it just doesn't want to come up. And you feel foggy and out of it. It's not that I want to be babied or anything but during a LOOOOONG low, I don't want to be told over and over its my fault, that I need to just eat more and get over it. I feel more screwed up when I'm low than high and it's hard to explain to others what's happening when I can't even function properly at the time. I'll have to look into mini doses of glucagon, that sounds way better than an ER trip. You're an amazing mom, good job all around, it's a hard disease, but we'll manage, one day at a time :)
This video popped up for me today as I'm battling a rollercoaster and lows. I'm learning how frustrating it can be.
Nothing worse than eating a huge meal.. Going low and having to eat or drink more. Ugh
Its good to show what our kids have to go through. There is so much people don't understand about Type 1. I hate when these things happen to them on special days. I hope it didn't ruin Henry's happy day.
Henry is such a sweetheart... "Nobody is perfect..." Aww. You are so strong to go through these kind of scary moments with him!

Could the low have occurred due to a delayed hyperglycemia from the burger king? With the high fat content, the carbs might not have increased his blood glucose until many many hours later? I would've been interested to see what Henry's sugar was in the morning. Sorry he had to go through that on his Birthday. He is so lucky to have you two as parents. You guys are awesome!!

Happy Birthday, Henry! I watched this with my G, 5y/o with T1D. She went to BK on her birthday, too. And she loves Legos. It's a match!! And she now wants to do videos. Oh dear.... ;)

Thank you so much for sharing about the glucagon! We have never had to use this but it is always a fear that I have that my 4 y/o type I won't be able to keep food down and be low!
Also, you are so right about emotions playing a roll in diabetes. I have type I as well and when I was pregnant with my first my numbers would almost always go up at a doctor appt, especially an endo appt because of stress/anxiety. It got to the point that I would have to do a higher temp basal.
I just wanna say thank you for sharing your videos on diabetes.
I am dating a very nice guy, my boyfriend he is diabetic. I'm still difficult n confused sometimes.,on this diabetes. but I will learn. I'm want to get married..and It's hard for me..but I love him.

What kind of insulin does he use, and how many units? My little girl wears an insulin pump but I'm sure that if we were to use it as a glucose monitor we would see her blood sugar go up up up and then down. Henry's morning sugar level was fantástic!

Did he have a stomach bug that caused him to get sick or does he get sick from having continuous lows?
Is he able to feel highs and lows now? I couldn't for a while after I was diagnosed either.

Guys, the juice was No Added Sugar? I assume despite it being No Added Sugar it has a significant amount of carbs otherwise you wouldn't give it to him obviously haha! I'm just a bit confused as normally No Added Sugar drinks have much lower carb! Anyway I hope Henry didn't feel too rough in the morning and I'm glad he had a fun birthday!✌🏻️
+elshuckle This is actually one of the highest carb juices we could find. It's awesome stuff because it's so high carb that you don't need to drink much for a lot of carbs. Much higher carbs than a typical juice box.

One day I want to do a day in the life with type one on my channel. Especially if I gwt pregnant again cause the frustration is horrible then.. More so then daily life.

Is the Glucagon oral tabs or injection?
+Jessica B injection. It makes the liver turn stored glycogen into glucose, which automatically raised blood sugar (so it is used in extreme low blood sugars, or prolonged lows)

Glucagon is an injection...with a humongous needle.
It's designed to go through jeans or bulky clothes, etc.
