Growing up my mother used to literally gag whenever she saw an interracial couple. It really messed with my views on race and love as a child. Now I have 4 kids, and I enjoy pointing out healthy relationships to my children. It doesn't matter their race, sexuality, or gender. As long as the relationship is filled with consent, safety, and acceptance that's all that matters. My son has been known to walk up to strangers and tell them how happy he is for them when he sees them kissing or holding hands.

I’m in an interracial relationship and we have two children. Our son looks Hispanic and our daughter looks Caucasian. The most negativity we’ve had about our relationship was in Texas where we had people walking down the street yelling that he should be with a Latina and I should stop taking their men. We’ve also been told that our son is going to be made fun of a lot for being a “brown kid in a white school” and we should have thought about that before having kids. Most people think both our children are beautiful and are very kind, but those negative reactions can lead to a lot of hurt.

My parents (i'm half white half japanese) moved to a suburban neighborhood in portland for a year before i was born in the early 1990s. a few months before my parents fully moved my dad had been doing yard work. After they had fully moved in my mom was having coffee/relaxing on their patio and was talking to the neighbor. he was super friendly (old, white man) with my mom, who is white, and they hit it off well. My dad then comes home from work wearing a suit (engineer) and the neighbor got so confused. he asked my mom who he was and she told him that my dad was her husband. my mom said that after that encounter, the neighbor gave them the cold shoulder. she thinks that that the neighbor probably mistook my dad for being the gardener. my mom says that them and another family were the only POC/interracial family in that neighborhood and found out that the other white families had been preventing their kids from playing with the kids from the POC family. Needless to say, kinda glad they moved back to CA before i was born.

While I didn't have specific racial preferences that were make-or-break deals, I didn't vision myself primarily being with someone of my partner's background. Turns out that it was meant since he has treated me very well and many of our values aligned - and even better than the depiction of whom I thought I would initially see myself with. Now, we are expecting our first child this December. Both sides of the family are very excited, too.

I knew that dude was Ethiopian before he said he was. Ethiopians really do have some distinguishable features.

These are some of the most beautifully connected couples I've seen in a while. Love it! In my home we don't discriminate with the possible exception of religious zealots of any background....lol
It warms my heart any time I see humans embracing other humans where they are and for whom they are. Love love love it! ❤️

Where I live this is not even a discussion, maybe it was 50 years ago, but my parents are the only ones from all their siblings that married "within their race" all my cousins are mixed, and so is my husband, its so weird that this is still a topic of conversation.
