well neither one are a cheap option. so if someone had to chose one or the other, at least for an initial purchase for residue management which is the better option?

We just added the Devastators this fall and liked what they did. They helped break down the lower(and toughest) part of the stalk so our vertical tillage tool did a better job before seeding covercrop. We may look into getting some type of shredding stalk rolls once ours are worn out.

Yes I think the devastators is where I would start, mainly because everyone has stalk rolls that do some type of decomposition.
