I was fortunate enough to attend this match as an American on a rugby tour. For as long as I played rugby to little or no fanfare, being at this match made me appreciate the sport on a completely different level. If only all Americans could understand the beauty of rugby!

I was at this game, during a tour i was on with a band. Kate was the wearing a welsh flag dress. It was amazing . We were sat behind the NZ u20 team who when Rokocoko scored in the first few minutes were expecting a walk over, by half time they were feeling rather different
Lucky enough to be at this game in '03! Seated in the row behind the All-Blacks who weren't on the field that night - one of the best seats in the house. Fabulous game and great memories.
One of the finest games of rugby I have ever seen. We will never see games like this any longer as games are now played more like rugby league with everything being about low risk percentage play. I hope to see rugby like this again in my lifetime but I doubt it and that is a tragedy.

Wales were outstanding for most of this game, made it a helluva contest. Super game.
What a truly brilliant match. The ABs demonstrating that you have to play at full speed for the full 90 minutes, something Wales unfortunately couldn't quite manage. This would have been truly worthy of the final....a far better match to watch than the actual final. It is so depressing that this is the style of play that the Welsh coaches have been training out of Welsh rugby from more or less this time.
The ref. played a huge part in keeping the game moving at a tremendous pace. I think he had a great game. Also thought the commentators were good as well. No complaints from this Welshman.

That try from a forward pass ruined the ending those Welsh boys deserved. This had the potential to become a classic match. Insted it fizzled. Great first half.

Fantastic game ! Justin Marshall´s pass for Howlett´s last try was a blatant forward pass.The ref was the only person in the stadium not to see it. Wales did not deserved that and NZ really don´t need this kind of presents.
Anyway, one of the best rugby moments in the history !

i get your point :) an average football game sees around 10-12 minuttes of actual action! rugby is definitely more flowing both in terms of open play and in the sense that everyone is allowed and required to handle the ball - football is much more specific in terms of responsibility and individual skillset required

I was Very Ill when this Great Game of Rugby took place. In fact Close to Death! However, so pleased to have Recovered and able too see Such a Great Game of Rugby Union! As a Proud Welshman, I'm so glad My Countrymen did The Land of My Father's proud! Well Played Boys Bach. Also, too The A.Bs for making Such a Great Game of Rugby.

This All Blacks side would be the Rugby Union equivalent of the 1982 Brazilian football side. On attack the best in the world, full of flair and great to watch but when it mattered most they came up short.
love how the commentator called one of the greatest wingers of all time to be *Shane Williams* "The other winger"
Shane Williams was barely known before this tournament. Interestingly, he was chosen as a 3rd choice scrum half for the WC and it was after this game, he put himself on the map and established himself as a first choice winger.

I've just come here from a (brief, painful) foray into American football. Urgh. Let's just say it's good to be home. Look! Play that continues for more than 5 seconds! Passing! Tactics! Skill!
Trouble is we had to endure the awful 2007 season before anything was really done. 2005 GS was great, no doubt, but it was a little bit of a false dawn. WC2003 gave us glimpses of what we were capable of, and it's true this was the first REAL display of what has become the modern Welsh Way.
This was the last GREAT rugby world cup match. The ones since then have been played by teams scared to lose rather than looking to win and it's a real shame this kind of running, attacking rugby isn't played by more teams in world cups.

What a game has to be one of best for passion and running rugby wales showed amazing spirit but all blacks showed too why they've been top notch for 100 years

I did mention that my foray into American football was brief :P
Of course it's skilled, as is any professional sport. I think what I was getting at, unless I was just being awkward, which is entirely possible, is that... it's difficult to express. Play seems more flowing, passing is more of a thing (in all I watched, some guy gets the ball and charges towards the line, with no regard for his teammates)... but a lot of that can be attributed to plays being so short, come to think of it.
I remember listening to this via radio and the presenter saying (WALES!!! IN THE LEAD!! I MUST BE DREAMING!) and he was screaming lol

Weird to see the evolution of the shirt at this World Cup you can see some of the all blacks preferring a tighter shirt than others in the team

Such a superb game, i remember watching this game and thinking 'this may be the turning point of welsh rugby'. Now a few years later 3 GS and a semi in the WC. For me at the very least this was the best game of that RWC with the England v Wales game a close second

Oh 2007 was literally terrible, ive never left the pub in such a foul mood after the Fiji game, literally cursed welsh rugby and said id never follow them again after breaking my heart... obviously that was the heat of the moment but how much have we as a rugby nation improved from 10 years ago. And i agree 2005 was a false dawn but its still my fav GS outta the 3 because i waited so long for it

id go as far as agreeing that Rugby is better than American Football, but saying it doesnt require any skill is just plain wrong... try throwing a 50 yard pass off your backfoot while 4 300 pound guys are trying to tear your in halves..
