I have to spend 10 minutes looking for pallets because there isn’t enough for everyone. we have like 50 e jacks but only like 20 of them are actually decent and the rest malfunction.
I was a selector, and the minute I witnessed my co worker bumb his head on a metal rack, and broke out bleeding all over the floor, I was like "Nope, all they want numbers... And they want to feed you a fairytale dream of moving on up thru hard work & dedication"... I reported the accident, then I got let go...
Mrjoecreeper, Any aerobic exercises to keep the fast pace going and lower back strengthening exercises. I don't recommend you do this for a long time unless you really have to cause no matter how healthy or in shape you think you are all that bending to pick things up will wear your discs out.
If you're fat, unfit, and eat like shit, you'll struggle. You basically have to approach this job as a fitness nut. Eating protein, good carbs, rest, and staying hydrated
I just finished my first week as a selector. This video was a better overview then what I received at work. Since I'm still new, I've been doing nothing but returns, pulling damaged cases and cleaning. But I'm still waiting to learn how to order select.
Very, very hard job. At first I did well. Took me 8 weeks to learn the job and make 100+ productivity. Everyone praised how fast I was learning. Unfortunately I left shortly after due to my body breaking down, and I’m a fit 24 year old. My feet felt like they were fracturing; fingers developed severe joint pain; had no energy on my days off. It’s no joke.
@jamar reid how u guys keeps ur hands from feeling stiff in the mornings I don’t have pain in them but they’re stiff af when I wake up every morning unless I have a couple of days off in a row
Understaffed because that's some bs work. Only way I can see myself working this is having a mentality of at least I'm not a slave and not getting paid anything.
7 years? Too much time invested that you can’t get back doing a job like this but I applaud you for doing this that long. I think anything over 6 months is too long in this work.
I work for martin brower and yes the job is very hard. I lift like 60,000 pounds a day but picking is different from other jobs. I make almost 70,000 a year with this job and this is without any debt except my car, which is only like 6000 left. This is a job you can start a life with and then after start doing what you love after you save. This isnt fast food or retail. Oh yea i just turned 23 this year. If you need money, work hard. If not, dont.
Highly doubt you make over $60,000 a year **unless you became a supervisor or manager**... Most companies will cap you out. Starting pay at the Dollar General distribution center I work at is $19.05 an hr- which is great, but they cap you out at only $23 an hour.
Did order receiving and Consolidation at a warehouse like this.... This shit is not for the faint of heart... this wasn’t for me. That environment is the definition of hell!
1:27 "Young man you are going to go far here. We might even move you up to freezer duty. Do that well and you may be able to get one weekend off every four months!" "Thank you, sir! I love it here!"
Yeah some picking jobs are fucking ass. Like rustoleum paint…they made you work 13 days in a row sometimes and never let you have time off. You could be super sick and they would be PISSED if you had off. Also if you had a family emergency they would say no most of the time. And they posted a list of top performers. If you ended top6 or lower you’d be considered a shit worker for the day. And sometimes you could help what you got for orders. BUT there are some places I liked picking at it was called apl logistics…they were super cool and as long as you showed up and worked a good rate you could talk to people you could even snack and have drinks on the floor as long as you picked up after urself and it payed more. Managers were way better to and you had 3 days off 4 days on! So much better.

Easily one of the worst jobs I've ever had in my life. No work/life balance, lots of injuries, horrible co-workers who are usually ex-cons, losers and social outcasts who have no real future if they stay working in these places. Only thing I give thanks to this place is for motivating me to work for myself and never work for a place like this and for people like this.
I come from a call center background and although you're sitting the entire shift, it can be a mentally draining job. I applied for a warehouse position for a change in scenery but now I understand why I didnt get hired after watching this.
@@ant112990 I am learning to be a box packer and I totally agree with you. I used to to customer service and I can't stand helping people now. I like where I am at. 10 hour shifts on 4 days but the pay is good. :)
@@PumpkinPixie1978 customer service sucks.. Cause your just a crash dummy for customers to treat like trash. I stopped working at the warehouse cause i started making more money working for myself.. jobs literally pay you pennys compared to how much you can make on your own.. I was going to just say the same exact thing. I was a union ironworker for 10 years, all rebar work. It’s a hell of a lot more physically demanding than this job and I still went to the gym five days a week..
Order selecting has literally taught me something life has never taught me. Yes it’s tough, physically and mentally draining, but it has been one of the most prideful and satisfying thing I have ever done in my life. People will respect you and also make a name for yourself. Either you make it or break. It seems intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s straight competition and pride. Also never went to the gym again.
Definitely mind over matter. I couldn't tell you how many times I quit in my mind in the beginning. Once you find rhythm. Is never easy but you learn a lot who you are. Stay safe ,take care.
I only lasted two months at my order selecting job. I felt fast, but obviously I wasn't fast enough. Had too much trouble hitting production. It is what it is, I'll find another job
I know US FOODS has a lot of turnover. I just interviewed for a driver position there. After watching this video I think they could improve things in the work environment by copying Amazon. My wife who just went to work there at a DC said they have massage chairs they can use when needed. Also if they need anything from gloves to back support belts to elbow or knee braces there are vending machines that have them where they just enter their employee ID to get what they need. She loves her job there. She said she has met complainers who try to do as little as possible, but for her she wants to keep busy like this selector job.
@BabyZoe91 i work at gold coast beverage i been there 6yrs n I make about 53000 a yr..with fridays and Saturdays off..I have an interview with sysco Wednesday..
@BabyZoe91 2bands a week sound good..but I gotta weigh my options out do to my kids,my off days i spend with them n I heard sysco work 6days a week..if that's the case I might as well stay where I'm at...now if it 5days a week than I will do it..
@BabyZoe91 yea man I have the experience but working 6days a week,I won't be able to spend time with my kids..but I'm going to ask question when I go in for my interview
oh please, I'm 57 and doing this work because I was bored being retired and love a challenge. I love the physical nature of this job. It's one the best workouts ever. I do 3 day 12 hour shifts of order picking.
@@sixslinger9951 good for you man, my experience was horrible. having to be at 100 percent every week . going in to work every day knowing you're going to run your ass off in 15 below temps, I'm good on that.
Selected at GFS for 9 years...quit in Feb 2020 because I burnt myself out. Now I'm bout to have an interview for Publix to do the same damn thing. I hope it's worth it.
They sure did put a spin on the workers enjoying competitiveness, to beat each other rate. It’s a lie! The workers have no choice because it's not coworkers they're competing against, they are competing to achieve the business overly inflated, extremely demanding, rate expectation in order to keep their job.
I don't know their situation, but from my pov, it's not what I would call dope in the least. Shady management tactics exist and are implemented. The tried and true 1st shift vs 2nd shift. But we're all there to make a paycheck. We could bust ass or take it easy, but busting ass makes time fly. Those who think similarly are great to be competitive with. Better that than focusing on the sole fact we're ants in a colony on order pickers.
All of that "busting ass" and you're going to be completely broken by the time you're fucking 40 and that's if you're still working here and not laid off by the company. These warehouses are a joke and take advantage of people. You have 0 work/life balance, you work for scumbag managers that hire/fire people constantly, people get injured ALL the time. If that's ok with you, then you're out of your god damn mind.
Did it for 11 months. Never again Never was really properly trained to stack properly. Faulty equipment(scanner, sae, sometimes even the EJ) Conjested aisles, felt like I could’ve gotten ran over every other day cause ppl are running for that 100+% incentive Time not given back if delayed. NEVER ran a 100% only at best 80-85% my 11 months there which was demoralizing. Normally worked in the cooler but when transfered to the freezer they didn’t have insulated boots or freezer wear besides pants so I had to find some someone left out in the locker room Don’t recommend this job at all then again it could be different experience at other warehouses.
I was a selector for 6 years that job fucked up my knees... a lot of bending n kneeling using your knees... I started when i was 25 n found another employment but my knees hasn't been the same.. my back was good because I learned to distribute weight using my legs but this job is good for younger guys
I've work in a warehouse with super high production rates. And now I work in one with no production rates. They pace is faster. And we work better and feel less stress. And it Really is a family environment unlike production. Plus the turnover rate is lower WAY lower.
Yeah it's ridiculous, when I first started I was making like 200 dollars more than my last job but I was fucking exhausted. Fuck working as an order selector.
Dont do this formor than 2 years & just lift the cases properly eith ur legs not ur back n ur gon be okay go get a diploma electrician or something like that its worth it !!
Why 2 years? If you're not physically fit than yeah. Most people I see that pull 150- 135 percent everyday only last a year or two. Lot of people get injured because they choose too. They only do incentive pay but don't work overtime.
I recently applied but was not selected but I can say love the fact they didn’t hold any punches in this vide about the work itself they’re very upfront letting you know this job is not for the weak.
I'm an order selector at McLane. I really enjoy my job. Yeah, it's hard physical work, but the pay is worth it. We use single and double Jack's as well as tuggers.
I'm in my upper 50s and started order picking for Tractor Supply Distribution Center just in the last week. They crammed a helluva lot into our brains in the first 5 days. I was only trained for 2 days before they put me out on my own. This kind of job is not for the lazy or people who don't like physical & long hours of work. They have to keep training new workers every week because MOST quit pretty soon after starting.
Ye I had just started order selecting at safeway, my 2nd day on my own they pulled me into the office and were telling me how slow I was and how they don’t think this is the job for me. Like I get they have to meet productivity but I didn’t even get 2 full days of training nor do I have prior experience, how do they expect me to start off at 55 percent. I ultimately decided the pay wasn’t worth it and told them I quit.
@@Mal0717 there are many jobs like this, look around. I'm at Tractor Supply DC. They are pretty strict with %. You have to average at least 80%. But, for the most part they are fair as long as you show up every day and work hard. I'm lucky to have a pretty cool supervisor. He even gave me a better job and trained me on an RC forklift after a month in.
@@Mal0717 This is litterly my situation right now😆 the manager told me to level up if I want to continue working. It's my 8th day selecting. He wants me to compete with people who have over 10 years experience, I am fucked😔🥸

I worked like 3 weeks and quit. Take my word for it. This is brutal. If you fat u gone slim down quick asf. My homie works for a selector service that services MCdonalds. When I quit he told me I was just lazy, now he's out of work with a back injury.
It's really bad, where I'm at you have to do at least 95% of time they give you to do each batch. Anything less and your a goner. I'll most likely be out of here sooner because it's so physically demanding that it makes a construction job a walk in the park
@@levihenderson3714 yes sir! 100% is what they get from me . Nothing more and nothing less. At the end of the day. Those 160s and 170s I see people pull is going to kill them in the long run. The check is going to look nice no doubt, but to me it’s not worth the physical and mental stress.
I don't order select and never have but I work in general production for a meat company. They bust the guys asses everyday including mine and we have to be real quick to keep meat on the tables (where woman get and place in plates on a machine). The work doesn't stop sp we are rotated to go to breaks and lunch and a few times during the day we are left doing two peoples jobs alone and its a hassle. I end up with my feet, ankles, knees and sometimes my back real tired when I get home. I get paid minimum wage ($16.04 in los angeles), do I exaggerate or is this not a bad job?
The dumb part is having the order selectors that just got done working a 8hr shift or 10hr shift... or possibly a 20hr shift (done it before) clean after everything is said and done.. any warehouse should have a cleaning crew.
I want to apply for this job but only as a part time gig after my 9am to 5pm. And like from Monday - Wednesday. (They have those 3 day options in my area) I miss actual work and moving my body, I just sit on my ass and push emails and it really sucks. I like the money I make, but I want more money and to move my body again. When I used to work at Amazon they would always make me do all of the most exhausting work because I bust my butt for them at $15.50... 🤡 I feel like I could be competitive here, not the top dog or anything. But I feel like I could get the job done well, get paid a decent amount and lose weight. They start shifts at 5pm which I can coordinate, but I don't want them pulling me for Mandatory OT or anything like that. Decisions decisions.

I picked for Ford for 3 years, physically demanding yes, but once you learn the job it almost becomes second nature. I had to relocate and ended up at McLane. Which is wayy worse than ford.
It’s no joke.
your diet was shit, and you didn't keep exercising outside of work. It's just that easy.
@jamar reid it's a blessing and a curse. orderfilling keeps you honest about how healthy you really are.
@jamar reid how u guys keeps ur hands from feeling stiff in the mornings I don’t have pain in them but they’re stiff af when I wake up every morning unless I have a couple of days off in a row
@jamar reid I pick in the grocery/dry side
@jamar reid yea I gotta start wearing gloves too tired of having cuts on my shit lol
Did this for 7 years. Never again. Long hours and always under staffed.
Understaffed because that's some bs work. Only way I can see myself working this is having a mentality of at least I'm not a slave and not getting paid anything.
Got to be built for this shit 😢
7 years? Too much time invested that you can’t get back doing a job like this but I applaud you for doing this that long. I think anything over 6 months is too long in this work.
Good video.. retired 26 yrs at Sysco
If you don't mind me asking I'm sure you were pulling in almost 3k a paycheck...yah good money but at what cost
Lifelife..SALUTE...I been picking since 21 and ill be 45 this year
Is your body completely broken now?
Highly doubt you make over $60,000 a year **unless you became a supervisor or manager**... Most companies will cap you out.
Starting pay at the Dollar General distribution center I work at is $19.05 an hr- which is great, but they cap you out at only $23 an hour.

Work a whole year and receive 2 day of PTO
I swear to god they told me the exact same thing

Lazy people always say this to avoid going to the gym. This is nothing compared to what you should be doing in the gym.
I was going to just say the same exact thing. I was a union ironworker for 10 years, all rebar work. It’s a hell of a lot more physically demanding than this job and I still went to the gym five days a week..

Damn my back hurts just looking at this.

They sure did put a spin on the workers enjoying competitiveness, to beat each other rate. It’s a lie! The workers have no choice because it's not coworkers they're competing against, they are competing to achieve the business overly inflated, extremely demanding, rate expectation in order to keep their job.

@@ExotiiicRL yeah right! That’s corporate policy brainwashing!

Sysco top of the line 😘been order selecting more then 5 years so I’m not sure where these young people complain about pains and aches came from😂🤷♂️🤷♂️
Everyone has different body endurance as well as their diets and life habits. Even if we all kept the same way our bodies are built different and everyone lasts more or less. Not to say mindset is big too
"Get fit while you work."
Understand that none of this work is easy and it requires a certain type of person to do this day in day out.
10 hour scheduled days,Then the 2 hour "mandatory" overtime, then the:"You're here until the work's done."16 hours on a Sunday wasn't uncommon if you couldn't scam or grease your way out of it.
Gouging, pure & simple. It;s the USA way. Wouldn't happen in civilised countries
Complete insanity then they expect you back the very next day 😅
They are good paying jobs, however it all depends on who you are working for but all of them are labor intensive. So if you have health issues that may prevent you from lifting very heavy boxes etc., don't apply. They are all fast pace, and anywhere from 10 to 12 plus hours. Mandatory over time. Can't leave until the work is done. No thanks..
Big Facts
In the UK they are called order pickers and they drive llops or ppt's and put them in cages.
Im a counterbalance & reach flt driver. Reach most of the time.
I'm 99 pound guy and 5'3 you think I can handle the lifting
Yea bro you'll be alright the heaviest cases are meat which could be like 80-100 lbs in the cooler. In the dry the heaviest are oils and 50lb bags of flour
@@julianjauregui2938 yeah I tell them fuck the stop order it ain’t gotta be perfect lmao they be wanting the shyt on point with 32 aisle to chase nobody got time for that
Yea the bags are only as heavy as ur entire body
If you're not in good shape before you start, you'll soon regret it. I spent ten years in the warehouse, about half of that as a selector, before going out driving for another twenty years. Take my word for it, it will take a toll on your body. It's certainly not for everyone.
Work like a slave boy !! No mistakes!!
GOTDAMN RIGHT
It is hell of a job... Had somebody worked here?
Hey! I wrote the script for the voice-over! Nice to see that our work developing the "Selecting for Performance" and "Deliver!" training programs and the associated Realistic Job Preview videos is still paying dividends for US Foods.
I was told order selectors can make up to 1k a week after taxes is that true? Thinking about applying at a near by sysco that starts at 19 an hour. Can any current employees tell me what they're take home is and hours are. I wanna do this so I can save up money to get into being a landlord
Make up to 1k? You can make than 1k easy. Shifts are usually 12-14 hours and constant lifting. If you hate sweat and working hard, this job isnt for you
I know this old but, I usually make 1200 after taxes on average once a month I'll probably see 1800 after taxes, it's a physical job for sure thou
Have worked that job for 2years but the most difficult thing Is to getting order with chiller items and us we wea using trolls not wokers this job really makes year mind busy it needs no too much thinking people neither dozing people cause you might fall in a stucker operator wish you the best.
That was awesome :D i like that job :D
I worked at the Cincinnati branch for 9 years and still was 5 from the seniority first shift job. I still have check 1 alpha in my dreams 15 years later. Good starter job in the warehouse industry but move on after a couple years, your body will thank you for it, unless you like working 3rd shift and holidays for a decade+. The money is a trap like selling your 20s for this shit job day in day out. Zero work life balance off days are just recovery days. Hebrew slaves had more freedom 😊
This is almost identical to the selction I did at Sygma. I'm currently a driver now (because of my previous job and skill set) and pull trailers around the warehouse, but I bet money I can still out select any of the dudes we got in there now.
Maybe u are better than them but u cannot outwork me that's for sure!!
@@jcruz3114 Is that a challenge!? 😅
@@SquareSquared2 it sure is bud! When where an what time!
I select for Sygma RN and it’s hella hard dude 😂😂😂😂 I’ve got a lot of experience too they throw a stupid amount of stop in the cold section and hella bulk in the first aisle goes out too😂😂all the same clients just hella stops 😂😂😂
10 years doing this one of the best in Cincinnati
LOL
Lol!!😂😂
🤣😂😭 a fool and his ego.
Fuck that I rather drive the highreach load and unload trucks. Fuck this case picking shit!
I love the thought of doing this
How much do they pay ?
I want this job, but I’m mad nervous 😭

Been doing order picking for 35 years will be 62 in four years hoping I can Finally retire I’ve seen hundreds of guys come and go it’s absolutely a slave job recommended to my friggin worst enemy don’t be a picker
How long would you recommend it for???
Jose Rodriguez it’s a burn out job with all the efficiencies daily must be met I’d recommend as short as possible the forklift opportunities come along that’s where a lot of guys goIt’s just like tough lifestyle for people but if you’re getting paid while doing it least that’s the one good benefit
@@jamesmorash9702 I just started order picker last week I think I may stay 4 months then move on
Jose Rodriguez good luck maybe after a few months you will be real good at it and if the money ok it might work out for you 👍
it's hard work but I've done much harder work
Yall problably going to think I’m crazy but I bet when u was working this physical job u felt like you had no purpose in life feeling depressed and so on same happening to me so let me tell you why wouldn’t you want change in life stop helping someone else chase their dreams instead of creating yours enough is enough we been working jobs all our lifes
My first day was yesterday
Only 1500 Walmart order fillers go through 3-5 times that in a day
for real, i can relate, we move Way faster at Walmart than this video portrays.
Is this job timed??
yes
I had an interview at US Foods a few days ago, and was offered the job the next day. I was told I'd be starting at $18.80. Is this after the 90 day probation? The manager I had my interview with never said anything about starting at a lower wage than that until the 90 day period is up..
Bruh you ain't getting 18.80 I worked at a US foods. They gonna give you like 13 or 14 to start and if you make it past the 90 days its a increase.
Trapperjohn1000 are you sure? My letter from HR said starting at 18.56. It said nothing about making less during 90 day probation. It said benefits start on 1-1-18. So they’re lying to me? If you are right, I’ll be declining the job offer
My bad. If the offer letter said it then maybe so. I worked there like 6 years ago. Maybe they changed their compensation amounts. But bro. Get ready to work like a mutha.
That’s why you ask them in the interview . I almost forgot to at SaveMart because I was assuming they started at 17 plus but nah they’re average starting pay as well 15.40 and 900 hour increase raises which isn’t too bad but no vacation for the 1st year and incentive doesn’t start until 110 percent which is bullshit
I have a road crew position that pays $19.00 per hour with incentives up to $22.00. $35.00 cash per day per diem.
Please I need a job, can anyone help me out with the how to go about this?
You have to use the triple now, it's crazy and no training
Sonny Red where at Sysco ?
Yodam Bomb yea

I thought double pallets were ridiculous! I couldn't imagine using a three pallet jack! I imagine the error rates go through the roof using those.
Pay rate is very low for that kind of work !!

Orderfilling is bad ass
these jobs give incredible pay but money you cannot spend as they have you working non-stop with zero social life/family time.
