Xingping is an ancient town located on the banks of the Li River, 27 kilometers upstream from Yangshuo and 60 kilometers downstream from Guilin. The town was founded in 265 and was the regional center of Yangshuo County until Yangshuo was founded in 590. Xingping is surrounded by magnificent examples of karst landforms, with one particularly prominent peak rising above the village from the southern end of the Li River bank, which has an easily climbable viewing platform for those with an adventurous spirit and not afraid of heights.
The most spectacular sight in Xingping is the "Stranded Yellow Cloth", known as the landscape on the 20 yuan note. This is one of the most beautiful and photogenic stretches of the Li River, where you can see green mountains reflected in the water and traditional bamboo rafts floating on the river.
