This song was a slap in the face to the Haters who criticized him that he couldn't rap fast or flow hard since he had "become an Idol rapper" and said that his rapping was based only on lyricism and delivery. . Joke was his answer to so-called "rappers" who just spit out words like 'bibidi babidi' (basically just saying any words for the purpose of rhyming). Sorry if something is not understood, English is not my first language, I respect and admire RM a lot, please react to more of his songs, I recommend his first Mixtape called RM and his second Mixtape called MONO :)

Joke is RM's response to that hate during this time where he was told he wasn't good enough because "rappers need to be able to rap fast". With Joke he's doing a lot of rapid fire delivery word play and... a lot of random words that are piled together that sound good sonically but the lyrics are weak. In other words he's making a joke (see the double pun here?) showcasing that he can rap fast, switch up his flows and never repeat any of the same verses.

You made me laugh so many times! I loved imagining RM roll into the booth with hundreds of pages to squeeze into 3 min and imagining blasting Joke in the retirement home. The duality of BTS is what truly sets them apart! RM's solo stuff reflects his journey as a person. His first mixtape (where Joke is from) reflects his frustrations, is primarily about sending a message outward and proving his skills. His second mixtape is TOTALLY different! It's soft, introspective, and a mix of melancholy and comforting. Check out Forever Rain for comparison. Oh and there's hard rap tracks in BTS too, though with minimal swearing. And tons of hip-hop, and trash-talking songs to haters, and critiques of social inequalities, and on and on and on. It's not all happy and fun. But the whole package, the whole message of BTS and their personalities collectively is comforting and joyful.
If you wanna see the rappers go OFF together watch "outro tear" live at Wembley. But don't be mistaken by the lyrics. It's not a romantic breakup song, it's about their possible disbandmend that was discussed at the time suga wrote the lyrics for outro tear. The live version still sends shivers down my spine because you can FEEL the pain they all went through.

All the three rappers have their distinct styles, and when you put their styles together it's crazy good! You should do jhope's chicken noodle soup next before you do the whole rapline tracks. I’ve been convinced for years that had BTS never existed, RM would have made it to the top as an artist anyway. We’d know his name anyway. He was well on his way already in the Korean rap underground, as a teenager mind you. He had things to say and the means to say it. One of my favorite things about his work, it’s all precise and elegant. Even the harshest raps are elegant. It’s a rare thing.

I love how honest they are about their feelings and the path they followed. All their solo raps are part of their story into BTS and how that impact their image in the undeground rap scene, all the criticism and mockery impact them but they finally learnt to be proud on whom they are now.
They are all music Gods, and have very personal styles: J Hope has good vibes songs like Chicken Noodle Soup and Daydream. V has the most fantastic jazzy solo songs: Stigma is out of this world, Singularity too. JK is the pop king: Euphoria, My time. Jimin? Filter, Serendipity, Lie. Jin is the ballad Prince: Epiphany and Yours are my favs!

It is crazy how talented they are! Yes, RM is super amazing, the members said RM is Hip Hop, he have a great technical skills, crazy flow and cadence. Also the wordplay is top notch.
I'm gonna throw you a couple collaborations: Rap Monster with MFBTY and Rap Monster + Suga with MFBTY. The first is 'Bucku Bucku', in which RM got a verse, and watching Bangtan go wild with excitement at his performance is so heartwarming. The second is 'Monster', also including LE of EXID and Baro of B1A4, Dream concert 2015. Literally fire, as in flames on stage. Suga went OFF, and RM DOMINATED. MFBTY, 'my fans are better than yours', is Yoon Mirae, her husband Tiger CJ, and their friend Bizzy. They're popular rap-hip-hop artists in Korea, and they have had very cordial relations with BTS for years.
Ohhhhh the Western world knows who they are now, and so does most of the East, and both Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Just RM alone is already powerful in every God given right, but when you combine them together, the seven of them is what makes BTS out of this world. What a time to be alive and enjoy their music and artistry.

Each of their solos is amazing! When you get to V's solo, either Stigma (live performance) or Singularity (music video and perfomrnace) are nuts! For Jimin, Lie is emotional and Filter (performance) is fun and flirty. For Jin, Awake or Epiphany are must-sees and for Jungkook check out the Euphoria live performance :) For J-hope I would recommend Chicken Noodle Soup.

They have group songs just as hard as the rap lines solo stuff! Butter & Dynamite are definitely WAY more poppy than they usually make. Their music catelog is so large. You know the saying "get yourself a man/woman who can do both"? Well, BTS can do not just both but everything in between, and beyond. But I'd say, while Suga and RM have let out their savage and raw emotions in solo work, the others' solos are more like extensions of the personalities that we already see (of them as BTS members) - so, don't expect that the others will be all savage as well, haha. Suga and RM are also the two who started out as young underground rappers before joining BTS (RM was the first member and designated leader of the group and Suga was the second member to join) so they're used to writing their own stuff. J-Hope caught on fast and followed suit, learning to rap and produce after joining BTS. Meanwhile, the four vocalists only started doing 'non-BTS' solo work some years after debut but have since embraced the opportunity to create their own songs. What makes BTS so interesting (and why they've attracted so many loyal fans) is that they embrace the whole human experience in their music. They have positive personalities and are good, honest, humble people - but they (especially Suga and RM) don't shy away from showing anger or attitude, or even swearing in a few of their songs. Their company CEO told them from the very start that he wanted them to put their own lives and emotions into their music (to not just be 'immaculate, groomed idols') but authentic human beings and artists. (Just want to add that when sweet-natured people swear occasionally, it feels like a healthy release - the opposite effect of those who swear every other word, as a way of speech). Suga and RM also have their softer sides, and both are more naturally contemplative types as well. It's inspiring to see them creatively release pent-up emotions. It's cathartic and therapeutic for listeners as well. The best thing about them is that although they're able to commiserate with us when we're down, they don't leave us down in the gutter. There's always an element of hope or breakthrough or of successfully challenging or overcoming something. And last note: this is why fans get so disappointed when people in general think BTS is "only" cute bubble-gum pop like Dynamite (cool song that it is) - it's because we know they are infinitely more than that - so much deeper and real - and they've touched the lives of millions with their wide-ranging music and personalities.

All the three rappers have their distinct styles, and when you put their styles together it's crazy good! You should do jhope's chicken noodle soup next before you do the whole rapline tracks. It's a fun one! You'll love it!

It is crazy how talented they are! Yes, RM is super amazing, the members said RM is Hip Hop, he have a great technical skills, crazy flow and cadence. Also the wordplay is top notch.
I'm gonna throw you a couple collaborations: Rap Monster with MFBTY and Rap Monster + Suga with MFBTY. The first is 'Bucku Bucku', in which RM got a verse, and watching Bangtan go wild with excitement at his performance is so heartwarming. The second is 'Monster', also including LE of EXID and Baro of B1A4, Dream concert 2015. Literally fire, as in flames on stage. Suga went OFF, and RM DOMINATED.
MFBTY, 'my fans are better than yours', is Yoon Mirae, her husband Tiger CJ, and their friend Bizzy. They're popular rap-hip-hop artists in Korea, and they have had very cordial relations with BTS for years.
Ohhhhh the Western world knows who they are now, and so does most of the East, and both Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Just RM alone is already powerful in every God given right, but when you combine them together, the seven of them is what makes BTS out of this world.

Each of their solos is amazing! When you get to V's solo, either Stigma (live performance) or Singularity (music video and perfomrnace) are nuts! For Jimin, Lie is emotional and Filter (performance) is fun and flirty. For Jin, Awake or Epiphany are must-sees and for Jungkook check out the Euphoria live performance :) For J-hope I would recommend Chicken Noodle Soup.

They have group songs just as hard as the rap lines solo stuff! Butter & Dynamite are definitely WAY more poppy than they usually make. Their music catelog is so large. Hundreds and hundreds of songs. Like 13 albums. It's wild. But yeah! Individually and together, they're all just INCREDIBLE. And they make incredible music. And they are INCREDIBLE humans.

You know the saying "get yourself a man/woman who can do both"? Well, BTS can do not just both but everything in between, and beyond. But I'd say, while Suga and RM have let out their savage and raw emotions in solo work, the others' solos are more like extensions of the personalities that we already see (of them as BTS members) - so, don't expect that the others will be all savage as well, haha. Suga and RM are also the two who started out as young underground rappers before joining BTS (RM was the first member and designated leader of the group and Suga was the second member to join) so they're used to writing their own stuff. J-Hope caught on fast and followed suit, learning to rap and produce after joining BTS. Meanwhile, the four vocalists only started doing 'non-BTS' solo work some years after debut but have since embraced the opportunity to create their own songs.
What makes BTS so interesting (and why they've attracted so many loyal fans) is that they embrace the whole human experience in their music. They have positive personalities and are good, honest, humble people - but they (especially Suga and RM) don't shy away from showing anger or attitude, or even swearing in a few of their songs. Their company CEO told them from the very start that he wanted them to put their own lives and emotions into their music (to not just be 'immaculate, groomed idols') but authentic human beings and artists. (Just want to add that when sweet-natured people swear occasionally, it feels like a healthy release - the opposite effect of those who swear every other word, as a way of speech).
Suga and RM also have their softer sides, and both are more naturally contemplative types as well. It's inspiring to see them creatively release pent-up emotions. It's cathartic and therapeutic for listeners as well. The best thing about them is that although they're able to commiserate with us when we're down, they don't leave us down in the gutter. There's always an element of hope or breakthrough or of successfully challenging or overcoming something. And last note: this is why fans get so disappointed when people in general think BTS is "only" cute bubble-gum pop like Dynamite (cool song that it is) - it's because we know they are infinitely more than that - so much deeper and real - and they've touched the lives of millions with their wide-ranging music and personalities.
