- This is the view of the nest tree from the E-3 canopy cam which captured Andria falling over backwards from the nest while having a seizure this evening. She went straight down to the ground with hardly any flapping of her wings. The cam operator Cody scanned the tree and ground for quite some time and was able to find her laying on the ground at the base of her nest tree. The rangers will be going to the nest early tomorrow morning to rescue her if she is still alive. This is such a terrible tragedy and I am praying our sweet Mama can survive the night and be rescued and helped. ♥

Breaking news: The rangers will be at the nest in the morning around 07:20am Central time to attempt a rescue. There are three other eagles on this lake along with waterfowl & other birds and it is unknown what has caused Andria's seizures and illness at this time.
Andria has been ill and experiencing seizures since yesterday. Tonight, she experienced another seizure and lost control and fell off her nest. The cam operators have been prepared to help and have found her on the ground via the canopy cam. Cody and Steve are making plans to rescue her as soon as possible and if she is found alive will take her to the LSU vet school. Andria is a very ill raptor and she needs all our prayers tonight! I will keep everyone posted with updated information on this matter. Andria and her mate Alex have two eggs on the nest.

Dec. 7th 2023 ~ E-3: Just after noon today Andria appeared to be trying to cast a pellet and then had what appeared to be a seizure on the nest. A few minutes later she was able to cast a huge pellet. But she does still show signs of something not being "right" with her.
KNF's Wildlife Biologist, Steve, and Wildlife Technician, Cody, are aware of the situation and are keeping watch.
KNF has put out this statement: "2:20 PM bald eagle - We understand that Andria is having health problems at this time. If she falls from the tree, we will be able to retrieve her and get her to help. We will not intervene by climbing the tree."
Please try not to speculate at this time as the only way to know for certain what caused the health issues in Andria is to have tests run.
While this is certainly not anything we expected to happen, we just have to watch Andria to see how she is faring."

07:44:00 From Steve Shively, Kisatchie National Forest Wildlife Biologist:
"Obviously, Andria is big time sick. I thought she looked like she was recovering yesterday but now it looks like a long downhill slide. Maybe she will recover, but if I had to bet I would bet not.
We will NOT climb the tree to capture her. If she falls out of the nest, we will try to retrieve her and get her to LSU in hopes she could be saved then release her back if she is saved.
If she dies or is off the nest for a prolonged period it is not likely that Alex could incubate the eggs to hatching much less raise young to fledging alone.
There are lots of hazards in the natural world for all wildlife and eagles are not immune. Most wildlife, eagles included, manage to keep population going despite hazards.
Lots of eagles in Louisiana and their population is increasing. Unfortunate and tragic that this eagle is suffering like this and may die. But that's reality.
We all hope she survives and eggs hatch and young fledge. If she dies, we may discontinue streaming this nest, depending on circumstances.
As for outlawing hunting, will never happen, should never happen, as an avid hunter/fisherman, I would advocate strongly against it. Outlawing lead would be good, even if that's not what's ailing her."

Update Dec 9th 2023 ~ From Bald Eagle: "On 12-09-23, USFS personnel retrieved Andria's body at 0737. The eggs are unlikely to hatch due to inadequate incubation by Alex, who cannot do it alone." E-3: USFWS has confirmed with Cody that a necropsy will be done on Andria. She will be sent to a disease center for Bald Eagles. Once he has any results from toxicology reports and/or necropsy (necropsy results have taken 4-6 weeks when done on other eagles from other nests in the past) he will let us all know.
Cody also said that Andria died on impact. We can be comforted in knowing that she was not lying on the ground in pain over night. Alex did look over the nest edge while they were retrieving her body, so he knows that she is gone. Another female has already found her way into Alex's territory and even perched above him in the tree - he was not happy. " Thank you Cody & Steve for retrieving Andria's body and taking good care of her. And thank you Tanya for the update. RIP Andria & soar high beautiful lady 💔🦅
Rangers Cody & Steve went to the nest this morning and found Andria was deceased. I will update with more information later this morning from their report. I am sure a necropsy and toxicology testing will be performed. My deepest condolences on the loss of beautiful Andria. It is a very sad turn of events these past few days with her experiencing neurological issues. Alex is incubating the eggs now but they are most likely not viable without being incubated or rolled frequently. They were laid Nov 18 or Nov 19th for egg #1 and Nov 22nd for egg #2. Fly high Andria and RIP sweet Mama. Your legacy will live on with her two chicks from last season Val & Nugget and her loving mate Alex. Our thoughts are for Alex during this difficult time losing her.💔💔🦅

This was very hard to watch as it happened. When I saw her hit the branch and then straight fall I prayed. Kept live feed on all night and just hope she passed quickly. While one can appreciate the perspective Steve brings to this very tragic and sad event, at the same time, I can't help but think he needs to soften up. This particular eagle is not every eagle, Andria's death is personal and heartfelt to everyone who has followed and has therefore been invested in her life and well-being. For them, this is a tragedy.

Hallo schwarzerose 1573, falls es Dich interessiert Andria wurde tot geborgen. Den Aufprall konnte Sie durch den Anfall nicht abfedern. Sie kommt zur Untersuchung, damit der Grund ( wahrscheinlich Vergiftung) festgestellt werden kann.

Such a sad night, but I hope brighter morning for Andria. I had cats that had seizures and it's really awful to watch. I thought Andria had improved slightly, esp when she incubated today. But I guess not. I hope she survives the night and gets good medical care tomorrow. These two KNF nests were the first I ever watched. Wonderful eagles, great parents. Great chicks. It's been a rough season with Anna's injuries at KNF-1, intruders, and now this. Things didn't look good at all for Anna, but she recovered. This is more serious, but my point is they are strong, and heal amazingly. So hang in for the night, Sweet Andria. We love you. ❤️🦅😭

I May be wrong but I thought yesterday They were ready incase she fell out of the tree but awoken to the tragedy of andria falling out of the tree alone and wasn't rescued until hour's later.. such a sad day in eagle country 💔!! Very sad 💔!!
It is very hypocritical and untrue they say that Andria died as a result of the impact of the fall, as she fell at 10:19 pm and in the morning at 6:27 am she emitted several vocalizations, and three minutes later she was attacked by otters. Like all of us, unfortunately she believed the false promise that said “we cannot climb the tree, but if it falls we will promptly rescue it”, and what happened?? They preferred that she die “freely, without human interference, which is prohibited by federal laws”. They could even censor my comment, which would be expected from these “eagle protective entities”, which did not have the ears to respond to Andria's last calls for help. , and who receive thousands of dollars in monetization from YT and donations, only to limit themselves to carrying out necropsies. In the necropsy, in addition to probable poisoning, will it say “OMISSION by the USFS and KNF”? I repeat: KNF and USFS did everything to do nothing! It's very depressing to see this happen in the country that boasts the eagle as the ultimate symbol of freedom and strength.

Exactly, and they even speculated that she had died in the fall, and would not have vocalized after that (she vocalized at 6:27 and 6:33). She lived until 6:34, when the foxes appeared, and rescuers only arrived 9 hours after she fell. It is a mixture of omission, negligence and misinformation. It makes us think of Christ when he died on the cross: "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."@@julieh-c949

Just happened to see this nest which is new to me. I hope Andrea makes it. If this is lead poisoning this problem was caused by humans so this is not a case of let nature take its course. Lead should have been banned a long time ago. I strongly suggest and hope the authorities do what is right. Take the eggs carefully and put them in an incubator and bring them to a special facility like AEF that knows how to incubate and raise eagle s and then release later when ready. Also watch the male eagle for signs of the same thing. Also watch other eagles in this area. Do a search for roadkill and animals that might have been shot by lead bullets. Pick them up so no other animals can get poisoned. Hunters should not use lead bullets and should pick up all meat especially in eagle and other and other raptor and bird areas where birds eat meat. No eagle should have to lose its life because of human interference nor carelessness. This goes for their eggs too. They are still a protected species. I am an eagle and bird lover. I believe in saving them all. These eggs can be saved.

This is the hard part of watching these cams , it can be heartbreaking at times. I hope she gets the help she needs to become a healthy and happy eagle. 😢
I wish I was there, I would go get her immediately! It might already be too late. I'm in tears bcz I fear the worst: been there, done that, as they say.
As far as the incubation of the eggs, I think it could be done, even though it might be difficult. I think of our Harriet disappearing when the eaglets were only a month old and dad, M15, was able to care for them, feed them & he raised 2 strong eaglets. They even had to flght off female visitors that wanted their food! It was amazing to watch! Time will tell what happens here.

Judging from what I’m seeing she doesn’t appear to be moving unless she’s been stunned by the fall. That’s a long way down for sure but I’m hoping for the best.
I still believe that Andria ate a prey that has rat 🐀 or mouse poison possibly, because it happened before that dad brought a mice 🐁 to the nest and led to the death of eaglets that happened ate by an eaglets and mom . I hope the rangers will take the eggs 🥚 in bring to in incubator because it will be hard for the dad to find food and care his young at the same time, Please Lord have mercy on Andria and save her
This was terrible. However, one blessing to this: she landed where she basically couldn't be seen. So no one had to see her(though I'm also sure they would have turned off the cam/panned away)

I remember Harriet from last season, who left the nest and never came back and M 15 raised his two eaglets by himself, and they grew up in the nest, but when Harriet eggs were hatched for a couple weeks. This is why they don’t give the Eagles names anymore. They just give them a letter and a number. In case something tragic happens to them. 😂 RIP my sweet Angel

It is regrettable that this innocent eagle, which ironically is revered as a symbol of freedom and strength in the USA, reaches the sad outcome, where, already without strength and without the freedom to have the right to life, it dramatically succumbs before our eyes. Would the (in)human being be chosen as a symbol animal in the kingdom of eagles? And ironically, in the name of "protection and non-interference with the eagles that are protected", given the lethal situation and poor prognosis, measures were not taken right from the beginning to rescue her and her eggs, but only humiliatingly waiting for her to fall in a so dying and the embryos died. Andria heroically tried until the end to incubate her eggs, using her last strength and heat, as if in a last legacy in this existence, serving as an example of unconditional love for Life. Not only Andria and her innocent embryos who even had the freedom to be born, but above all hypocrisy and human evil, which hypocritically destroys and kills in the name of freedom and peace. Thank you Andria, who together with Alex and all the puppies you generated, for so many moments and examples that you gave us, and I shamefully ask for forgiveness in the name of the truly human beings of this inhumane (in)Humanity. May “Our Lady of the Eagles” carry you on her wings, where in Heaven you can fly free with your two young ones. Sweet Andria, rest in peace, see you soon, see you forever.

These are laws that give the "right" to eagles to die "free" in complete abandonment, "protected" by human hypocrisy and omission, under the pretext of "non-interference". These "protectors of the laws" should use a vulture, not an eagle, as their national symbol.
