I still consider actual Métis to be seperate from people today who are simply "mixed with Indigenous ancestry" since intermarriage between Indigenous Canadians and Europeans happened well over centuries ago, and since then, they've pretty much evolved into an ethnic group of their own that happened to be neglected by European colonialists just as much as the First Nations and Inuit did. Throughout history, the Métis were never treated fairly by Europeans despite technically somewhat being a part of their own people, and they were considered obstacles against European expansion since they settled the Canadian interior far earlier than Europeans did. Perhaps they're considered Indigenous for settling those lands before Europeans, even though they're part European themselves. Or maybe they're considered Indigenous to make up for the terrible history they've gone through; those are my guesses.

@user-hv4xe6ij8d I'm not Métis but I personally consider them as part of us. Mixed Indigenous-Europeans being considered Aboriginals are pretty much something governments decide honestly. What I mean by that is that the Métis of Canada are considered Indigenous by the Canadian Government, while people such as, for example, the Latinos of South America who are a mix of Indigenous South Americans and Europeans are generally not considered Aboriginals by their governments
@user-hv4xe6ij8dThe phenomenon of women never marrying Aboriginal men is due to women never having much autonomy compared to men back then. During colonialism, they were pretty much never treated well throughout history up until very recently and that likely has to do with what you're saying
@user-hv4xe6ij8d Yeah true, it's quite sad what has happened with Indigenous peoples of North America. I still consider actual Métis to be seperate from people today who are simply "mixed with Indigenous ancestry" since intermarriage between Indigenous Canadians and Europeans happened well over centuries ago, and since then, they've pretty much evolved into an ethnic group of their own that happened to be neglected by European colonialists just as much as the First Nations and Inuit did. Throughout history, the Métis were never treated fairly by Europeans despite technically somewhat being a part of their own people, and they were considered obstacles against European expansion since they settled the Canadian interior far earlier than Europeans did. Perhaps they're considered Indigenous for settling those lands before Europeans, even though they're part European themselves. Or maybe they're considered Indigenous to make up for the terrible history they've gone through; those are my guesses.
