    Great episode! -- QUESTION -- I am looking for a full tour of the inside and outside of your sailboat. Is there a tour video? Must say it looks so so clean and perfect inside. Not a scratch or dirt or anything so please do a video if possible as I am sure there are others that would like to watch that. Keep up the great work and don't give a second thought to the "girlfriend" and "car" nonsense. You are living a great life from what I can see :)

      @@jamesodwyer1631 Moodys do make fantastic liveaboards, I’d certainly consider one myself if I do find myself needing the extra room. Have you traveled much with yours?
      Safar is a great sailing boat, light winds she struggles a little upwind as my Yankee is quite conservative, but I’m hoping to get a larger sail when funds allow. In a blow though, she’s fantastic, she just pushes on, stays dry and never feels like she’s out of control.
      Id be very interested to see what a 40 was like, particularly down below. I imagine they’d be a little tricky single handed in/out of marinas though, even Safar can be a challenge with manoeuvrability in tight spaces.

      @@sailingsafar She's a good strong cruiser but not particularly good windward as she has high volume and a lot of windage. She doesn't move well in a light blow either but she has very heavy sails onboard and I don't think that helps.
      I haven't taken her far yet, I bought her at the very end of 2019 in Mallorca, the covid and Brexit hit. I've been around Mallorca, menorca and ibiza. Last summer when things got back to normal I was working 7 nights a week in magaluf and some days on top of that so since my work season finished in November I have been working on her getting her seaworthy. I start work again in April through to November then after that I plan to go sailing for a year. Over to the Caribbean. The either north to Canada or through south America I'm not sure which yet?
      She is my first boat so a big learning curve.

      Really pleased you’re enjoying the videos! What were your highlights/ must visit places from your adventure? Great eyes spotting the microwave, it’s actually something the previous owner had installed, I’ve only used it a handful of times and only ever on shore power. Great video: and it didn’t ruin the drone shots! BTW how do you find the sunpower flexi panels: are they easily shaded etc.? Sorry another one: who do you use for insurance? I’m having problems when I mention the word ‘solo’

    • @sailingsafar
      @sailingsafar ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Ben, All good, hit me with as many questions as you want! I like the sun power panel, it’s current position isn’t necessarily optimal, but it fits in well and is out the way, I can shift it around if needs be as I left plenty of slack in the cables, I personally much prefer panels over wind generators. Even with shading it’s still pretty effective, but I’m very conservative on my energy usage anyway.
      Insurance wise I’m with Pantaenius, to be honest, it’s not a fantastic policy for solo sailing as it limits how many miles off the coast I can be, but they were highly rated…. I’ll look to renew with someone else later in the year though, as I’m rarely coastal hopping and prefer longer offshore passages.

    Fab drone footage in this one congrats! Do you have any advice for landing the drone on the moving target Morgan? I know it’s not easy even with two people. We stacked ours on a transat recently and lost it- an expensive loss so any tips gratefully received

    • @sailingsafar
      @sailingsafar ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear you lost your drone, as you say, they’re a very expensive item, it must be gut wrenching to see it go down! especially taking all the footage with it! I some times wonder if I’m on borrowed time with mine, I’ve certainly got my moneys worth of photos and videos now.
      So for me, I keep the boat on course, regardless of point of sail and I bring the drone in on the windward side (only if I’m taking lots of spray will I change course)
      When bringing the drone in, I first fly parallel to Safar, and try to match her speed, once I’m happy I’ve got that, I’ll start to crab in towards me. I never really fly it inboard the boat (too many ropes and shrouds to hit) so I try to get it close enough that I can pluck it out the sky with one hand, but far enough out that I can abort and fly away if it’s not going to plan.
      I see some people talk about landing it on deck, but that seems like madness to me!
      Hope that helps, if not I can try to take a proper video of it when I’m next on passage for you. All the best, Morgan
