Astonishing 🙀 It is simply breathtaking ... I never ever imagined that this kind of raw and very intimate emotion could be featured in ballet. Imagine being there watching it live...!!!! I would totally have a breakdown 😳 Thank you for sharing😘 Truly, all my kudos for your effort ❤️🇵🇹
Thank you Francisca. This is one of my favorites of all my videos. I wish anyone who says "ballet is boring" would give this a look. I dare them to not be moved. Your kind words mean a great deal to me and I appreciate your writing very much. Thank YOU
@@PamBoehmeSimon I have seen the whole of this ballet about half a dozen times over the last 20 years and each time the choreography of this last scene is slightly different but every time it is equally compelling. And I have read several historical books on the incident at Mayerling and during one of my trips to Vienna I went to visit the Mayerling hunting lodge where this took place. To me it is the most compelling ballet and the most astonishing choreography of any ballet I have seen and no other ballet can be compared to it for showing with movements the inner characters and torment .of the protagonists. Kenneth McMillan’s choreography is out of this world and it must give huge satisfaction to any dancer to be able to bring it to life. If you are interested there are a few clips on YT of McMillan himself rehearsing the original cast for the first production of the ballet way back in the 1970s. I found them very interesting and you may do so also.

My heart has been filled with your beautiful vids and there is little room left for what dwelled there before discovering your channel. The all consuming beauty of Sergei, his life's journey and the ballet transport me to a place in my soul that brings me joy in ways little else can. Thank you.
I haven't watched this for a long time! Ana Ol and Sergei pack so much raw emotion and chemistry into this, it (almost) feels like it should not be PG-13 anymore. His inner mental anguish and torment as Rudolf makes me want to cry! Unbelievably outstanding, performance by both, if you ask me. No one else is half as convincing. Wow! So much talent ! Lifetime achievement award 🥇 in my book!
@@katharinas2590 Ой люблю эти восхищённые комменты одиноких баб, страдающих от отсутствия любви, где разум и критическое видение и мышление заменяется другим местом !
This is simply the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen performed on stage. Breathtaking sensuality, connection, adoration.... just perfection....this something to watch over and over again. I have never felt such emotion through dance by either the performers or my inner being of witnessing through my own eyes. I am with tears....
I can't thank you enough Crystal for your amazing comment. It touches my heart and soul to know it affected you so. I have to say I agree with you. It's one even I keep coming back to, watching over and over. So completely heart wrenching, tragically beautiful. I hear the music after he's pushes her straps off her shoulders at '50 and the tears just well up. Thank you so much for writing and letting me know.
His ballerina in this vid looks a lot like Tamara, however her name is Anna Ol... and she is sheer perfection with him, as was Miss Rojo. Their Marguerite and Armand was exquisite.
Even though I put this video together, I can't watch it enough times. The emotion (no matter how many times I see it) is always fresh and painful and haunting and delicious... that's how good these amazing dancers are... especially our Sergei!!
Thank you for saying so about the music... it blew me away how much that changed the piece... I'm so glad you like it too, and thanks for letting me know.
Amazing dancer and actor able to express the interior torments, the deep despair and the excesses of Rudolph who was a rebel in a constant revolt again the court and his father FrantzJoseph.
Thank you Pam for this beautiful video .... as always you do a beautiful work !! But this time, Sergei is touching, it gives a lot of emotion !!! Very beautiful really !!!
This was, without a doubt, exquisite. I needed to watch this video five times before commenting, because I simply could not find the words to respond to it. And honestly, I'm not sure that I can now. I didn't see this ballet with its original music, and I now cannot imagine it being danced to a full, grand orchestra. The dance is raw and broken, and deserves the sense of mourning that the minimalist music gives it. After rewatching it once I'd researched the Mayerling Incident, I am only more bewitched by this masterpiece, and the display of this fatal love scene. So often, our society and pop culture turn physical intimacy into a vulgar and cheap party trick, but this dance made it seem almost sacred. Thank you for making this- I absolutely loved watching it.
Dearest Lizzy, you see it. You feel it. You "get it" completely. "Raw and broken" ... I absolutely adore that description. And "sacred"! You have a beautiful way with words. You are most welcome, and thank YOU for watching and so, so eloquently commenting. Your contribution via your profound comment to this exquisite and tragic story is much appreciated.
Lizzy T of course the reality of Mayerling was not romantic but more political The young Maria Vetsera was involved in a love story without any knowledge of the political involvement of his lover announcing a sad ending. The character of the Kroonprintz Rudolf is very interesting, especially with Polounin showing the ambiguity of this man clever, frustrated by his father the emperor Frantz Joseph and in admiration for the only woman he loved, his mother Sissi
Thank you Jessica. So kind of you to take the time to comment. I couldn't believe the effect that minimalistic piece of music had on the pas de deux. Stunning, if I say so myself. I love experimenting with video and audio and this one blew me away. Thanks again. I hope you will keep watching my work.
You are not alone. I want to cry each and every time I watch. Making this video was a labor of love. I thank you for watching and so aptly commenting. 💝💛🎻🤗

I read your description for this vid, & completely agree with your choice to move to minimalist music. One of the highlights of your work IS your choice of music. Removing the ”pomp & circumstance” typical of classical ballet scoring frees up a huge space for the viewer. Less grey matter is needed to process the music, so we can concentrate on the dancers/dance. We can see them AS dance, an embodiment of both the verb & the noun. “I am the dancer & the dance; I am the singer & the song” (an actual quote but I cant remember the source). Your technique also reminds me of the great Japanese director, Akira Kurosawa, particularly his movie “Ran.” There is a long battle scene (feudal Japan), very violent, lots of death & fire, lots of slo-mo. But what you hear is a soft classical piece, minor keys, no other sounds. It was startling when I first saw it, but it is very effective at concentrating the viewers’ attention on what they see. Your eye for composition does the same thing. Marvelous!
I am humbled at such a comparison. Thank you so very much. Quite often I have to defend my "messing with" the music, but it is fascinating to me to see what happens when I do! Thank you again, and again.
