Most people fail to realize that even though gratuities are automatically placed on your sign and sail receipt, they are NOT mandatory. You can opt out and pay what ever you deem necessary to each worker during your stay instead of letting the cruise line force you to pay a predetermined amount. The cruise lines use the automatic gratuity fee as means to pad their profit margin by not paying their workers a livable wage and to shame their customers into mitigating their unfair compensation policies. Being an accountant for 2 major cruise lines, I know that only 20 - 25% of the pool of gratuity payments actually go to the workers. The rest is kept by the cruise line as miscellaneous profit. So, the next time you book a cruise and see the option to "pre-pay" for gratuities or see it on your final bill, you will know that only a small portion of it is actually going to the worker.
Very interesting I appreciate your comment and insight on that, thanks for sharing!
How do I opt out of paying pre paid gratuities and only pay what I deem necessary?????
That's BS, I became friends with one of the workers on a Royal Caribbean ship. He was well into 6 figures at 8 months out...they can call it what they want but, imagine if you worked at Applebee's and you got any share of profits🤣. I had workers on that particular cruise refuse my tips.
I thought you can opt out to prepay but it would still be added to the bill at the end of the cruise
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, my hubby and I will be on in June. This helped alleviate some of my nosy tendencies and anxiety...lol
You are welcome! Have a great time on your cruise, it will be here before you know it!! 😀
I think this is the ship we’re going on this summer. docking out of New Orleans.
Debbie! Love the editing you did on this! Really great tour! Josh and I loved it!
Hi Josh and Michelle! Thanks so much! I hope you're able to try this ship. It's a good one! ❤️
We are sailing on the Valor this week! Your breakdown was very thorough and well done!! Thanks for all of the info!!
That's very exciting!! Have an amazing ceuiseon a great ship, happy sailing!
It's my first time seeing one of your videos... and great job!! It's well produced and doing a simple tour without a lot of personal reviews or opinion, is perfect really. The positivity is refreshing. Thank you! - Dan B (we do mostly Disney cruises because we love the rotational dining and staterooms, but did the Valor out of Miami in 2011 with extended family, and had fun!)
Used your video on my page it was a great tour. You did great work. 🥰
The valor had the right itinerary and sail date. I just needed the review! This would be my first cruise.
Like a few others, I’ll be on in June! Can’t wait!! First time on the Valor. Thanks for the vid!
I’m currently going to this cruise this year! Super excited!!
Have a lovely cruise! We enjoyed this ship a lot, so hopefully you do too.
I will be on the Valor in August 17 until the 21st..excellent video! ❤
Oh wow that is super exciting!! Have a lovely cruise it will be here before you know it!
Sailed on this ship when I was a kid back in 07 or 08. Beautiful ship!
That intro.... wow. lol. Didn't see that coming.
Lol 😆 just trying to create some different things. Those kinds of things take longer than the video sometimes, but I love figuring new stuff out. Your comment made me laugh, I love it thanks!
Will be on Valor in 52 days and will be my 3rd time on that ship. Great video of a great ship!
Why, thank you Linda! :) It seems to be a perfect fit for me and Brian; we loved it.
Great tour! We will be on her May 1st!
Thanks Tina!! 😊 have an absolutely amazing time on your cruise! Its almost here!
Great job! I will be sailing on the Valor in May 2024. Looking forward to it. I actually like the smaller ships better. ❤
I am with you, smaller is better, this is a great ship, have an amazing time make lots of forever memories ❤️
I was on the Valor in 2005 when it was the newest ship in their fleet. That was my only time on the ship, or any cruise ship. It's undergone a refit (probably several) since then. Looks totally different than what I remember.
Hi @Jasonerb2577! Thanks for your comment! It's definitely a nice ship. I am glad they make updates too. I really enjoyed my time and will definitely be back 😊
January 2024 will be my first time on the Valor. I did a previous cruise on the Triumph before she was retired. Felt pretty special to be part of her last voyage! Looking forward to making many memories on this beauty! Thank you for the amazing video!
That's awesome! Have a great time and yes soak all those forever memories!!
wow havent seen this cruise in a while
What's a great place to meet up with friends.. have a moment to ourselves
3rd trip on the Valor this June. We have taken other ships, but this one is our favorite. Not sure exactly why. It just seems more energetic.
Very nice, David! That is definitely something to be excited for 😀 it will be here quick! We really enjoyed the ship too
David since you have been on the Valor a couple times. Does Java Blue have the boozy shakes.
Out of where these ship? We travel in tje esplendor 3times and I love it and 1 tine in another one I forgot the name, sorry
Me and my dad were supposed to go on the valor in May 2020 but Covid had hit and it got canceled
Great video and info! My wife and I are cruising on the Carnival Valor in August! This video gave me a good idea of the layout. Thanks! By the way, are you from the Pensacola area also?
Hey awesome!! I liked the Valor ship, easy to know where things are! I used to live in Pensacola, it still has my heart!
Looking at a trip spring break 2024…I know SB can be busier but wondering your thoughts on the Valor because she does have less “slides” and kids pool area, maybe it would be more “adult”SB? I’m with all my kids and hubby so I can make fun out of any trip…just wondering.
I would say there is a good chance less kids because people usually look for that kind of activity, its a great ship even without all the extras the bigger ships have 😉
This is very similar to the Carnival Liberty out of Port Canaveral I’m glad I won’t get lost on this ship
We have a 30 person group sailing on the Valor in June!!! Can't wait!!! This will be cruise 🛳 #6 for us, all on Carnival.
We're going on the Valor November 4th. Can't wait. Excellent video. Is 5 days long enough to see everything on the ship?
I think 5 days is perfect, that's probably my favorite length of time to cruise, have an absolutely amazing time!
That main dining room was the Lincoln Dining room. The one you called the aft dining room, is the Washington Dining room. There are a few other things you missed also, but not much. A few dance floors, some serious neglect on the dining options such as the Mongolian grill, but other wise, an ok tour.
Hi! We booked a balcony room were room 9222 I saw there are 3 kinds of balcony rooms how do you know which one you will get
good question :) I would say ask your travel agent or pvp if they booked it, it depends too where it is, the aft can sometimes have a larger balcony. Have a great cruise!
Ok Deb, was disappointed to not see you on the Vloggers Cruise vlogs. And forgive me if I’m overstepping boundaries, but you seem to have gone to Carnival exclusively? I’ve been a follower of yours since your Minnesota Escape cruise!
Hey Jim! Thanks for hanging with me all these years!! We aren't exclusive to any cruise line, just got some good casino deals, we actually sail back on NCL in 3 weeks 😀
Is there only 1 outlet at the desk? And is it the same for interior room?
Yes only on standard US outlet and also a funny European one, but we just bring an extension cord with multiple to plug all our stuff
Can you get a non alcohol bar mix drink card
I don't think so. They sell a soda package, but not a "virgin" drinks option.
Just sailed the Valor. I would never do it again on that ship. It’s older the food is not good except the burger 🍔 place the tacos. Some one got food poisoning off the buffet. The food was cold. I’m not being negative at all this was my first cruise and the people who usually go on cruises that were with us said they didn’t like that one. It’s was fun for me as a first timer however they really need to update it. And the ice machine was down the whole time. Also the time that they said places on the ship would be closed they did not go by that time they closed whenever I’ll give it 3 out of 5
I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience! Thankfully lots of other ships to try
Me and my family will be cruise Thanksgiving 2023
That is a fantastic way to spend Thanksgiving 😀 have a lovely time!
I enjoyed the tour, but the music was too loud and very annoying. I could barely understand half of what you were saying. Thank you for posting.
I'm going on this ship for the very first time for me w my dad and step mom for my graduation trip edit. This is not my first cruise I cruised w disney
Me, my wife, and two boys will be setting sail in July! This has definitely been one of the better and more enjoyable Carnival Valor ship tours to watch! We’re definitely looking forward to it! Thank you!😊
Thanks!! Have a great trip, the Valor is a great ship! It will be here before you know it!
