From my own perspective,I think the reunion is not about the irresponsible or racist father or colonialism or white male privilege or cheap Asian women etc. It is about forgiveness and acceptance.Anthony has suffered so much and it is a blessing that his half brothers are now willing ti embrace him as a family member. The fault of the old generation should not make Anthony take so much burden even at this age.

This happened to my dad. His father was from Scotland. He never forgive him for leaving the family. He and his siblings were so poor growing up, grandma sometimes starved to feed for the family. She never remarried. Dad grew up earned decent money and had us. I was raised Asian, he refused to acknowledged his white side. I never learned proper english until I got to college. I didn't know about my grandpa's existence until I was contacted by an old white dude from Facebook. He wanted to meet with us and my dad. Dad let us go be he said that his father died long time ago. He didn't need him then, he didn't need him now. Grandpa wasn't too pleased that we embraced our asian culture fully. When I told my dad this, he banned my grandpa from ever contacting us again. He died two years ago - all my dad ever said was "good riddance". At least that explains our light brown almost orange eye color or how I was born a redhead and get sunburn easily.

they made a bad mistake a long time ago. although we are not in the right place or right time to judge them, but they are no doubt still a part of the family.

I appreciate that you don't speak about circumstances you've never experienced. Those of us who have a deadbeat dad don't want them in our lives, as much as those dads don't want us in our lives. If it was why did he get involved with a Chinese woman and even have a kid in the first place and later have to abandon them? Most shockingly he kept it as a secret all his life. To Anthony’s mother the father was her husband, to the father the mother was just a woman who could fill the gap while he was living in HK for a couple of years. That was why he left and left for good without a trace or any mentioning of them in Australia. He wasn’t going to make them any part of his memories.

So, his father was a major trash who lied to both of his family and actually finally abandoned one.

That is what will happen if your country is colonized. Obviously, the British father abandoned the actor and his mom, he even wouldn't mention him to his other children...It's basically a sad story, but the media describe it like something warm and sweet to justify the colonization past.

Growing up my older siblings and my parents watched many shows and movies he was in. I always wondered why he looked so “strange” because he did not have the typical Asian features. I remember there was quite a level of discrimination toward women who had relationships with “White men” and even worst if they got pregnant and the father left. Fortunately much has changed since then. I don’t know what his childhood was like but I’m sure he would have wanted his father around regardless. It’s good that he searched and his brother reached out to him. Perhaps he can now have the connection he’s longed for with his father through them. Congrats to all of you for finding one another.

But if he was in England, people would’ve seen him as a Chinese man. He has that “half and half” look if you know what I mean

Back then in WWII a lot of brits came to sea and fling around with the locals, telling lies about starting a new family and whatever, then went back and never return. Those locals were shamed by their folks and raised their kid all by themselves.
