I just love this band. Everything about them, the styling, the music, everything. The whole portrayal of a weird cult family is so spot on. All of their songs and albums tie it together beautifully. Even their website fits the mood. I love Brother Bill's voice too.
Something I didn't touch on but that I'm noticing after having made the video is just how catchy the whole thing is. The chorus is a strong hook but even the solemn, moody verse is stuck in my head and I find myself randomly singing sections after making this one.
oh hell yeah Cosmic skull is so much fun. Don't know if you've heard the album version of this song, it's extended by a few minutes. Also "mountain heart" is the utmost of bangers but I guess that one doesn't have a video. Imo their first album (which this is from) is probably their best work, but their record from last year has some diverse ideas and is pretty damn good too.
They just dropped something new recently. This band does not have a bad song. I think "Is Satan Real?" is my favorite album by them so far but everything they do is amazing,
There's sooo much going on in this track. One listen ill focus on the guitsrs. Next time the bass, the drums. That organ that makes the statement of what this band is and leaves no room for doubt. Now, finally he secret weapon. The electric Cello. So beautifully haunting. Beckoning the listener to step closer and become more than just a listener. The frequency and vibrations of this song make it one of the greatest songs of all time.
Thanks for sharing this- great and original stuff! Made me think of the band Bigelf. Not that they sound the same but maybe "in the sane vein" with groovy, psychedelic prog also loaded with 70's vibes and still very fresh!
There's also quite a bit of doom in Bigelf (the song "Closer to Doom" may not be the one displaying it the most though but still a great mash!) th-cam.com/video/DXVS6dJbHsQ/w-d-xo.html
absolutely love this. only been turned on to the church for a few months but feel like I've known them for years. adding songs to my church music playlist I realized at the end I added their entire inventory. saw them in boise a few weeks ago, not only was the show otherworldly, the band in it's entirety were inviting, humble, and ultra friendly to boot. I literally cannot get enough.
Yessssssss. I think I was one of the few people who requested this, but somehow I missed this video until now. Their songs and their whole concept is so good! And I totally think their videos are hilarious. They completely crack me up every time. But I’m also just a strange dude 😂
I don't know if you have heard this song since its been a while since you last checked these guys out, but "chromatic aberration" by Native Construct is a absolute masterpiece that you need to check out. In the video where you did "Mute" by them, a good amount of people requested chromatic aberration as well so I think it would be a great pick.
Hey I just wanted to say real quick, I checked your requests spreadsheet and I dont know if maybe somebody else had requested Better Left Unsaid from Cryptodira, but I had also requested the songs Negation Consumes Affirmation and Negation Consumes Itself from Cryptodira (and you even replied to that comment haha) and I didn't see that on the sheet, so I wanted to make sure those songs got on there too!
I always appreciate when you share stuff that you like or you have found, great to see and learn the nuances/niches you can pick out. Thanks for the share!
I discovered this song right before I watched your reaction video, which got me to subscribe. I must say that the composition and subject matter of this song, along with it's soulful harmonizing really reminds me of the J. Geils Band - I Will Carry You Home. It's hard to describe as the J. Geils is much poppier, but there is a core of darkness that they share.
Never heard of them, but I'm 100% down with that 70s vibe. They completely nail it too. I've always been fascinated with pastiches that so thoroughly nail the sound of a bygone era/genre/band/etc. The cool thing about this is that, even though it sounds like the 70s, I can't say that it sounds like any specific band, so it still has a freshness that many pastiches lack. This song also reminded me of how much I miss organs in rock music. Looks like I've got another Bandcamp to visit. :)
Give a listen to these five bands-they happen to be my very favorite bands, and I think they’ll interest you: Blood Ceremony, Jess and the Ancient Ones, Lucifer, Thundermother, and Twin Temple :)
Love the song, Bryan. Totally novel sound to me. If you like acapella, I found a channel called VoicePlay. They are amazing! Their voices are perfect and their song writing is pretty top-notch too.
Strangely enough this band kept showing up in my recommended and I thought about checking them out because their album cover looked cool but completely forgot about it, so I'm glad I was able to hear what they sound like with this video. I'm curious how you came across them? And I think you'd really dig the band Elder too because they also blend that 70's psychedelic sound with doom, except it's kind of the other way around. This band seems to be more psych rock with doomy elements, but Elder is more of a doom band with psych rock elements. I also saw their song Blind was on the poll for next week, so hopefully they end up getting picked. Blind happens to be one of their most psychedelic sounding songs so it would be a good one to start off with.
Elder sounds pretty cool, a sort of mirror to this stuff. As for discovery, just TH-cam recommendations. It's kinda hit and miss for my causal listening needs but since I listen to such a variety if music on this account I get a pretty diverse range of rock and metal suggested by the grand ol' algorithm.
Agreed. I'm really enjoying Doom these days but could do without the lack of movement. Bands like this and Oceans of Slumber get the same atmosphere while having momentum to their songs.
I think you would thoroughly enjoy the blending of genres and the skill that this band has. They are super talented and highly underrated. I'd compare them to Mr. Bungle.
Another instant 'Like'! If you like this, but want would like to see what it's like with a little more heaviness, there's a cool four-part (but single track) song by Lord Dying that you should definitely check out - Lord Dying: Split From Within. I think it'd be right up your street. In fact, I'm pretty sure you'd love the whole album it's off, "Mysterium Tremendum".
I did. Well, technically the TH-cam algortithm introduced it to me but I loved it and figured I would share it with you wonderful people. Returning the favor a bit of being recommended so much good music.
@@CriticalReactions I don't know why it's so fun to find out people have heard this one obscure song thats super popular but in a very small community. They have such an interesting mix. 3 lead singers and choir. Proggresive rock music mixed with doom with a bit of acid and church chior. Who would have thought. Always love hearing your take on great music. Big fan.
Now shamlessly i give you my 3 songs i would love you to hear and react to.You have not reacted to a song by any of these bands. Be'lakor- smoke of many fires Slugdge- salt thrower Vektor- Recharging the void
F*ck the Fitzroy doom scene from Australia has 4 members and all are lead vocalists - even the drummer hollers in some vocal lines in the midst of songs. Would recommend checking out 'better off dead' just classic stoner rock
"are a cello and an upright bass the same thing? just played differently?" sorry, did i stumble across "confessions of a drunk trumpeter" youtube channel? :-P yes, that is an electric cello, and no, cello and bass are not the same thing. Cello is trombone, bass is tuba.
Thanks for that clarification. Strings are one of the insturments that I have the least personal experience with so I have to remember definitons for that stuff rather than pulling up memories. And my memories are usually a lot stronger than my ability to recall random facts about something.

@@CriticalReactions Oh yeah, they are catchy as heck.
I’ve had this catchy bass line stuck in my head for the last two weeks. It’s like I’m stuck in the loading screen of a dope 90s game
I have been waiting for people to find CotCS. They need to be shared with the world.
I found them late last summer and have been turning all my friends on to it
oh hell yeah

You should also check out Bill fisher's solo stuff too, self titled, Bill Fisher - Mass hypnosis and the dark triad. Epic, EPIC stuff in that album

This band has recently become one of my favorite bands, I really like the concept and the fact that it is well executed
Just good solid rock and roll.
These guys and Foxy Shazam were my favorite musical finds during the pandemic.
Jeez, Foxy Shazam? I haven't heard that name since I saw him at Bamboozle 08' crawling on stage like a dog haha
One of the best TH-cam recommendations I ever got was for this song. It's like putting Ghost and Polyphonic Spree into the blender

Dude, the Cold Sweat video kills me. Every time. I'll be laughing so hard are some of those shots.
@@CriticalReactions It’s so good 😂 Those graphics and weird effects send me. Them overacting with super serious faces make it 100x better too

I need to listen to that entire album eventually. Mute was too just leave at that

Fleetwood Mac of the Corn. Lol. I love all the chemical & mathmatical diagrams when they drink their "sacrament".
I always appreciate when you share stuff that you like or you have found, great to see and learn the nuances/niches you can pick out. Thanks for the share!
Glad you enjoyed this. I figure that sharing the odd gem is the least I could do after having been shown so much great music :)
Yep, they’re pretty much amazing. Thank you for introducing me to them.
just wonderful! love these guys so much
Reminds me a lot of Ghost who are like pop-metal or something. This could def make it on the radio of someone took the chance on them.

As someone said, Mountain Heart is a real banger too!
Probably one of my favorite modern rock bands to come out.
holy shit a song I've heard before!! lmao not sure when and where but si it's good
The Ocean - Mesopelagic: Into the Uncanny/Bathyalpelagic I: Impasses (together)
Wow, awesome. Gonna check them out!
Selling out venues in the U.S. right now!
Love the song, Bryan. Totally novel sound to me.

I was not expecting this. If you liked this you need to check out Black Slug by them or Bill Fisher's (the lead) Celador.
I certainly will check out both of those.

12:24 It is an electric cello.
Nice pick Bryan. Yeah these dudes got the handle on dynamics. I vote for doom prog as a new genre

How come something like this can't make it on the radio. at least
Papelillo - Plini
Took too quick a glance and thought I saw the cellist playing a taxidermed alligator. Which I would normally say makes no sense.
70's psychadelic gospel space prog rock
