Hi, I enjoyed the video. I have a question. I've just bought and assembled my new Anet A8 3D printer. Can I connect the filament to the screen that I saw in the video? Should I do it while it's on?

2:01 Could you tell me... why you check the extruder's position??

I found it easiest to just remove the heat sink permanently. I printed a small L shaped bracket to go under the fan so the air can't blow downward. Then space the fan out just far enough to miss the drive shaft of the servo. This leaves a gap big enough so you can see the path perfectly. Also I just heat up the nozzle to the correct temperature for the filament cut it off high enough so I can grab a hold of it good and just pull it out. It always breaks off downwards the hottest. Just some suggestions even though your way works..

You need that heat break from the throat to the nozzle especially on lower temp filaments. You can get away with it for the most part, but it's bad practice really. So removing the heat sink is an iffy solution. It was designed there for that reason. This is more of an art than science doing this operation though. LOL A buddy of mine did dremmell out a place to see through the heat sink and that seemed to work pretty good.

How do you get the head raised away from the home position to get to this step?

I can't find this information anywhere! I need this same answer. Nobody tells you this. when I disable the stepper motors that only applies to X Y axis. There is no way to manually move the Z axis under controls. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm new to 3D printing and the Anet and have yet to print something. Damn thing blocked solid. Anyway live and learn. Next time I'll use a piece of card to get the nozzle to the .2mm. Anyway, I use Matter Control. You can control all axis using the buttons inside of the software. Just don't install the Matter Control driver. the bundled Anet driver works great with it.
