I've done this work nearly forty years ago in GDR. It was a highly searched and highly respected work, not only a Job. We had to bring the untill the next place for loading, so called Polter Platz in German. They have to placed exactly in high and length and Side by side. The thicker ends straight on, one by one, so that You could shoot along. Nof easy to do, and the trust of our horses was top notch. ,,Go softly, one step" ,,Pull again" and so on.... What a lot of birds, mainly in springtime around us, the deers and rows are waiting in winter for hay around, the deep snow, the pretty nature in our Harz mountains. Full of hard work, but fullfilled of harmony....
That hinge on the right worked perfectly and held the tree long enough to keep it in the direction you wanted it to go. You don’t give yourself enough credit……your a pro…
Great to learn about young Baron, and a mature Ken.A light training 4 him. Thanks for helping me know your babys names and personalities😊 that's super meaningful to me. I'm a trained English rider years. Always loved the Draft breeds a lot. Never knew they were even ridden. Do they know how to be ridden by English commands?.? ❤ hi Brenda hi Jim. Thanks for all your sharing.!. .
Hello Jim, Brenda, Lady and Bill. Jim, watching you put down trees with your horses, I see a very skilled hard working humble man. I'd say anyone would be lucky to be mentored by you. Thank you.
My goodness what did Lady and William have for their breakfast, Good evening Jim and Brenda, those horses just love their job, what great footage and so much energy woweeee.Lady is looking nice and round now and very very healthy.loved the shot of them licking the snow...oh and you did great to Jim😆 All the very best dear friends Joyce
thank you jim and brenda, for this wonderful video. Jim, i like the way lady and bill know your every command. what a beautiful day to be in the woods, thanks again, God Bless, you all Jim, Nova Scotia, Canada.
James Cox and Jim and Brenda, , yes it is lovely to see such connection between man and horse. Even knowing the weather hardships, I am touched by your skill and determination. Well done! Who would have thot a video on logging with horses would be so enjoyable!
Jim food for thought , a visit to the county highway dept , about roller problem sticking snow ? Brain storming to solve the problem , stay safe , good luck , team work ! Brenda does a great job you & her , amazing talent ! Continue on have fun , those horses well trained by the best !!!
38:00 Raw horse power right there. When they just started to pull would be a great picture right there.Lady lost traction and then on the second pull you can see the power in their hind quarters to start the pull! 👍👍
I understand why you can’t always explain what your years of experience has taught you, Jim. Your wisdom and knowledge with the horses, logging, farming and saw milling, at this stage of your life, is invaluable. Your humbleness is admirable. Brenda, your filming is top notch! The two of you are a joy to watch. I enjoy this channel so very much! ♥️🙏🏻♥️🙏🏻♥️🐴🐴
I love that you are using the new harnesses every day. It’s good to take pride in your work and equipment. It keeps you safe and the horse comfortable. I always wipe down my saddle, shake out the pads, etc. It makes me happy to look at the craftsmanship and know that I am do ing good by my animals.
What a lovely place to see in the snowy forest! Lady and Bill seem to work so well in the snow covered terrain. Truth be known, they probably enjoy the colder weather when pulling heavy logs rather than the hot days of summer when they get all sweaty working the fields. When they're side-by-side, you can really tell Lady is getting rounder in her belly!! She will be the sweetest mother to her little foal, and it's going to be a beauty since Lady and Baron are both gorgeous! Great video!
Love this video! Beautiful horses in their beautiful new harnesses - beautiful snowy day in the woods - love how Jim puts that big tree right where he wants it - and love Brenda's great photography and commentary. Your channel is very, v ery special.
What an art!!! Both the tree felling AND using horses to pull the lumber out. Such disciplined horses! Jim is a great teacher. And Brenda, to get some of those shots I KNOW you had to be hustling! Great job to all!
Jim so nice to watch a amature like you cut these big pine sawlogs and operate your chainsaw properly and safely . Others may call themselves pros but they scare me because I worry for their safety . Live long and prosper .
You got all the name's of your cuts correct at least I understood what you were doing . The most important thing is you are safe!!!! The tree went where you wanted it to. I watch your video's all the time keep up the good work!! I will try to remember to hit the like button I always forget not today.
Ooh so nice to see the logging done out in then winter. Scenery not that it’s comfortable. Jim you think of much to explain about so that in itself makes for dandy videos. Brenda is very good camera person and it presents the story very nice. We all know you two think safety as much as possible but I hope winter doesn’t get to bad to work in.
I really appreciate the frequency of your uploads. This is one of my favorite you tube videos. I am quite picky about subscribing. My favorite subscriptions are farming videos, but more especially farmers that are talented in other areas. For example: Jim's logging and milling, Farmer Tyler Ranch and his welding/fabricating abilities, Just a Few Acres and his mechanical/tractor restoring/clock repair and Farming/Fixing/Fabricating for his fabricating metal and mechanical repairs to equipment. Videos just about farming become a bit redundant...your varied skills give you a distinct advantage in providing interesting videos. I'm retired and look forward to your videos every couple days. Please keep it up...I know it's a a lot of work.
Think we are watch all the same vlogs....one you might like is a small dairy farm in Ireland named " I farm we farm " he does a lot of his own repairs etc ....Best wishes from Nottingham UK 🇬🇧
Well, since you did it. Here on the shore of Lake Michigan, 633', 3" snowfall. The wind did blow. Twenty miles inland, 1130', 17" of snow. Happy ski resorts! Cowboy tip on bits for short people: rinse bit, dip in salt, let dry, making it a treat they'll drop their heads for.
Yet again another great video..I agree with you re harness..I used to do weddings with my horses..I had a good set of harness for the weddings n the horses knew when I brought out the good harness..they stand much better n generally their behavioral was so much better for photos etc..Jim dont worry about the technical terms ... I hope the snow doesn't tickle your nose too much...lol..cheers M
Hi Jim and Brenda, the snow makes a wonderful scene in the woodland - picture book - I miss a snowy winter, we don't get snow ( normally) but it could change. Last winter I had only two mornings when I scraped frost off my windscreen- the whole winter😓, Lady's baby bump is now very evident, everyone waiting for the birth..🤞👍😊🌻

It’s nice to see horses back in the bush pulling logs I did that when i was younger helping friends out in the bush with horses sure. Miss it thanks for sharing
It really looks beautiful there in the bush. I am sure you are good at felling the trees where you want them to be. Our grandchildren have been tobogganing the last few days, first time ever in November. I agree with both of you. We have decided to enjoy what we have now rather than “save it for good”. Wishing you both good health and happiness ❤️
The horses look lovely in their new harness..might as well use them as u say..no good hiding them away for shows only..great video out there in the snow 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
So beautiful!!! I laughed when you said it's only 25°. Here in California it got down to 29° in the wee hours which is unusual for where we are and when my husband offered to feed the horses this morning I jumped on it. Enjoyed your video!
I've seen 3 bull moose. 1st in Banff, Alberta Canada. He was standing on the corner of the road. 2nd was in Waitsburg, WA, standing in a pea field. 3rd Dayton, WA, he was loping up the hill as I was going down. Awesome creatures.
It looks so beautiful with snow like that, Jim has a lot of patience with his horses 🐴 and they listen very well. Love ❤️ all your videos. Love ❤️ from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
These "MAGNIFICENT" Gentle Giants are such a treat to observe when they are so very well trained. Thank You for sharing. Greetings from Ontario, Canada.
Great video, excellent horses, be safe in your work, know how dangerous logging can be in the best weather , and snow is not the best condition for Jim and Brenda.
I have to admit that I called my parents and chatted with them while watching this gorgeous video ... had it muted so we could hear each other so I missed the commentary I always love so much but watching you all in this winter wonderland, all the hard but healthy and accurate work, was a real pleasure...love you guys and your animals ✌️
Hello Jim & Brenda! Oh how I wish we could do our logging with horses, but we use tractors. You are ahead of us for snow, however, you are a reminder that we still need to get the rest of our cattle into the barn for the winter. I'm enjoying your day while I get our house ready for Thanksgiving. Just a quiet day of rest on the farm, but the boys look forward to a full turkey dinner. It was a true pleasure to watch you work with your team Jim. It is an art and honor to see you holding to old traditions. Happy Thanksgiving! ~ Diane
Brenda and Jim, again, another wonderful video as always!!! The love and compassion you show for each other and your horses is something truly special. Love the humor throughout, and the beauty of the horses pulling the logs through the trees in all that snow. Thank you for sharing!! ❤️
So far south of you but all the senses come through this screen. Thanks to your strength and gentleness. That's for you and Brenda and horses so cared for too. Your making videos while working really is a gift. The narrative is enlightening and lovely to watch the harnessing. Ooo! I just want to kiss that warm beautiful horse snout!
Wonderful day in the forest and a great video! The horses are the ultimate ATVs the way they move over the rough terrain. So impressive. Also the way Jim felled that tree right where he wanted it to go was wow.
Wow! That was cool!! Can't believe how strong those horses are! What a job! But I can definitely see the benefit off using horses than heavy equipment. They can get into narrow places and less damages to the environment. They seem to enjoy the exercise.
It's so beautiful out there and those bright new harnesses are stunning. Won't the slay rides be festive! I totally agree on using them. We always use our bone china for much more than a few occasions a year and now looking back I'm so glad! All your horses are a treasure to watch! Thank you ❤️
A few videos back when you guys were having lunch up there I thought, those woods must look magnificent when it snows and they did not disappoint. I moved from New York to Florida and I missed the snow. Thank you for this 🥰
I think what you were going for was the "triple hinge" that Logger Wade from Indiana would talk about. He would make two or three vertical plunge cuts on the high side of the tree behind the face cut. The hinge would break sequentially as the back cut was completed.
Jim, my Dad used to notch the trees like you, in order to have the tree fall where he wanted the tree to fall. And You do a great job. Safely for you, renda and you horse team. 👍
That cart amazes me. It looks like something cobbled together but it pulls a lot of weight! I wish I could look closer at the fabrication of it to see why it is so strong.
I have asked the same thing, the video from about 10 days ago, Jim changed the axle wheel bearings on the cart. It seemed like the cart frame was easy to see.
I just wanted to say, I love all your videos. Please keep the content coming! By the way, the thumbnail for this video is an amazing picture of the Belgians, Brenda & Jim!
You may not know all the names of the cuts, but knowing what you're doing is more important. And that you do. Another great and informative video. Thank you Hope my calendar gets here soon. Looking forward to seeing the pictures of the horses in action. Have a great day.
What a beautiful cathedral God has given us. The snow really brings the size of the trees and floor together. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Your explanation is very good. I couldn't do what you are doing physically. I get pooped out just watching you harness the horses and then cut the tree down. It looks like a lot of planning. Happy Thanksgiving to you, Brenda, and your family. Do you give the horses carrots for Thanksgiving?
Thank you for this video. It was a fascinating look at a way of work little seen in today's high-technology environment. The way those horses took off with the two logs hooked up, I think they could have pulled that whole tree.
I like how Lady lowered her head so Jim could get the harness over her ears. She certainly knows the drill. Can’t wait to see the baby!
She was so polite and assisted getting the collar down into place also.
My friend's shire that I take care of not only lower head, she put it on herself. You simply hold it and she'll go and put her head in it. She wants to go, she know it's required.
That’s cool
Can I know you more better
In the meantime come check out our shire colt . It's on my channel for now. Will eventually build a channel for the horses only

Thanks Jim and Brenda god will bless up

Nothing like working in the winter wood with fresh snow.
I love that you are using the new harnesses every day. It’s good to take pride in your work and equipment. It keeps you safe and the horse comfortable. I always wipe down my saddle, shake out the pads, etc. It makes me happy to look at the craftsmanship and know that I am do ing good by my animals.
Hi sexy Katherine. How are you doing today? And how is the weather over there???
What a lovely place to see in the snowy forest! Lady and Bill seem to work so well in the snow covered terrain. Truth be known, they probably enjoy the colder weather when pulling heavy logs rather than the hot days of summer when they get all sweaty working the fields. What an art!!! Both the tree felling AND using horses to pull the lumber out. Such disciplined horses! Jim is a great teacher. And Brenda, to get some of those shots I KNOW you had to be hustling! Great job to all!

THANK YOU GUYS FOR SHARING SO MUCH INSIGHT INTO THE DRAFT HORSE WORLD AND ALL THAT HAPPENS ON THE FARM AS WELL AS IN THE WOODS! 👍👍

Hi Jim and Brenda, the snow makes a wonderful scene in the woodland - picture book - I miss a snowy winter, we don't get snow ( normally) but it could change.
Last winter I had only two mornings when I scraped frost off my windscreen- the whole winter😓,
Lady's baby bump is now very evident, everyone waiting for the birth..🤞👍😊🌻
Harnesses are investments. And yours are well made and functional.
You go ahead and use them as you see fit. Personally, I love a nice harness and horse combination.

I have asked the same thing, the video from about 10 days ago, Jim changed the axle wheel bearings on the cart. It seemed like the cart frame was easy to see.
I love Jim and Brenda for the great job 👏
Can I get to know you more @john strein
Jim when I watch you cut trees my own ways of cutting are becoming safer.😊😊😊
Lol it very excited
Can I know you David
I just wanted to say, I love all your videos. Please keep the content coming! By the way, the thumbnail for this video is an amazing picture of the Belgians, Brenda & Jim!
the piece left over on the back side after the plunge cut they call it the strap, i was logger trained by the maine state loggers association
Stunning to see the power and reciprocal respect of this amazing team! Great work! Thank you, enjoyed that.
You may not know all the names of the cuts, but knowing what you're doing is more important. And that you do.
Another great and informative video. Thank you
Hope my calendar gets here soon. Looking forward to seeing the pictures of the horses in action.
Have a great day.
Thanks Jim and Brenda I really appreciate
Hey Robert nice to meet you here
Really enjoyed this video Brenda,Jim,Bill and Lady.
Love how beautiful it is with the snow falling!!!! Blessings!!!!
Beautiful horses- so well trained! Thank you.
Great video jim brenda and family hope you have a great Thanksgiving lady and bill look great
Thank you for this video. It was a fascinating look at a way of work little seen in today's high-technology environment.
The way those horses took off with the two logs hooked up, I think they could have pulled that whole tree.
