    While I agree that this is an amazing customized rolling work of art, I think it's a damn shame they took apart a gorgeous original and complete 57 and left 80% of it on the shop floor. Considering the vast amount of new reproduction parts you can buy for a TriFive, they could have gotten the same result with a non running 'project car' and a stack of parts catalogs.

      50 years in the future, car lovers are going to buy resto-mods and re-manufacture them to perfectly original condition.
      But still, they wont be real "original".

      I was gasping when I saw my all time fav car on the Foose block in such great shape..... But he kept it looking almost unmolested and made it a real driver. Starting with a project car costs a ton to get it into shape. Job well done in my book.

      Well guys if it was your car you would do what you want. Where these owners did what they wanted. And I'm with them. It's dam fine and if I had the check book, would do the same. To have a car with the Foose name on it, is ever better than having a Detroit original.

    This 57 was all restored "factory original" car and looked great before Chip did anything to it. What a crying shame to destroy a "all factory original" rare car like it was. Would be much better to use a car already ruined from being factory original.

    • @docbhowe
      @docbhowe 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely agree. Foose always does a awesome job but why not start with just a old used one than a nicely restored correct one. If I was the previous owner or restorer I would be ticked.

      What's even more hilarious is that for their current Jaguar project, they explicitly said the reason why they didn't go with a Series 1 E-Type is because of the criticism they'd get and went with the less popular later generation model. Why they didn't think the same for a fully restored "factory original" 57 Bel Air makes no sense. Regardless they did do an amazing job on it. Of course though, if it was ordered to be done like that by the customer, then shame on the customer in that aspect.

  • @ricktrimble4589

    I'm sorry, Chipster... I may be the only one to take exception, but I'm just shaking my head. Any thing (that '57) that nice should be left alone. I mean, if you're gonna build one, please don't carve up one that nice to begin with. They sell EVERYTHING to do one the way YOU want it... Why
    rape an original???

      I agree, the wheels are as ugly as a mud fence. I realize that the large wheels and the short sidewall tires are great for taking corners fast, but how often do you think that the new owners will drive it like a Corvette? Ha, more than likely, Never! Also, ride quality suffers exponentially! My opinion.

    Chip, I'm a big fan of you and your work and this would have been just as stunning if you started with a decrepit shell or a new stamping -- realdealsteel or equivalent. I believe your customers would trust you if you told them that Foose doesn't pull apart classics. If there was a rationale for this let us know. Otherwise it looks as though you took apart a car someone restored with NOS parts and built the same thing you could've from a shell.

    • @parnellitube
      @parnellitube 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume it's due to the cost and time involved in hunting down good original or reproduction parts. If you're starting with a 100% complete car, then you can skip right to the modifications. Yes, it was painful for me to watch them tear it down, but it appears to be prior restoration, and not an original survivor. It was too nice.

    I have nothing but the highest respect for Chip Foose and his crew but in this case I think they took a rare
    beautifully restored car and made it into something else! Sorry but to me, a great car was forever changed and
    A LOT of money was needlessly spent! I realize I’m in the minority with my feelings here but I think a rare and wonderful
    car was lost forever!

    • @craigjorgensen4637
      @craigjorgensen4637 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cobb Knobbler I disagree. This was a beautiful restored to new with NOS parts. It even had the rare 2-4BBL 283. I appreciate the upgrades and the skill and money that went into it. It is no longer, however a 1957 Chevy. It is something else. Better? Perhaps but no longer a 57 Chevy. Had they done this work to a run of the mill average car I would have no problem. What they did was unnecessary in my opinion. I am far from a purist but this one got to me,...sorry!

      Sorry, always thought too much was made over this, but then, I never owned one. In younger days working race registration at Watkins back in the '70s, we would pull chains and rattle cages by purposely saying Porch when someone made a fuss over our americanisms. If they made a big deal or rolled their eyes, we would ask "Poor Shua, or Poor Shia? How do you spell that?" Amazingly, the race teams and drivers that should have been the most offended took it all as a joke, the only ones really offended were the rich folks getting their courtesy paddock passes. The best answer I overheard was from Hurley Haywood who when asked how Porsche was spelled said "F-A-S-T"!

    Im not crazy about the front wheels mabey they need some black background around the edge like the original 57 chevy hubcap but everything else top notch! I hope they dont wreck it or damage it. The problem with a car this nice is you cant just drive it to the store cause somebody will open a door on it or back into it especially in these tight ass parking spaces they have these days. I have two GM squarebodys i spent a LOT of money and time on, everytime i go to Lowes or the gas station i have people asking me about it or who want to talk about the truck take pics ect or follow me home and most of the time that is fine but sometimes you just want to get a toilet rebuild it and get back home. Thats the thing a lot of people dont realize they are getting into when you get top notch a classic car or truck like this ,its constant cleaning and i do a lot of walking so i can park way out away from car doors and shopping carts, its almost a curse worring about these classic ars but i love it anyway, its definatley not for everybody, I just hope they maintain the car properly and have a garage and good security cause assholes where i live will jack your shiat in a heartbeat.

    You started with a Beautiful car and ruined the fact it was all original, If you were going to re do everything you should have started with one that needs restoring. Wheels are ok, i like the chrome on the car and paint color. Interior is nice, the car sits to low for dip down driveways and speed bumps, I am just sad you took a Beautiful 57 and did a restomod.

    I'd probably go with a more quiet exhaust and put some white walls on the wheels instead of those black low profiles. Other than that, it's perfect 👌🏾

    Beautiful car. I would have liked to see the wheels with a smaller center and faux wide white walls though.

      While it would have been interesting to see, if you still wanted the rim size to be bigger than 15 in, I feel white walls at that point would look awkward.

    Not sure about the convertable .. we Aussies never loved them like the Americans and on a car like this those canvas tops look so agricultural and added on .. Imagine how nice the lines would have looked with a proper roof ....

    All Good but you couldn't leave it alone parked anywhere. People like to touch everything which I don't blame them but... I gave up when I looked out my hotel window and saw someone looking into my 57 HT in the Show Car section of the hotel parking lot. Then his dog decided to do the same thing and put claw marks up and down my drivers side door. I was at the Pepper Tree during hot august nights in Reno when this happened. Of course you couldn't open the windows and by the time I raced down 8 flights of steps they were gone. My car is a survivor build from the 70s and I cant repair or repaint the door. Just think how much it would be for this 57s door to be repainted. Its the color match that is tough.

    Why destroy a nice restored original car when you're only using some of the body panels? Most of the car was not used, and the bodies are reproduced. This doesn't make sense.

    • @Properformancenutritioncom

      Eddie Baker It doesn’t make sense but Chip knows how to get $200,000 out of people & that’s how he does it. His mega rich clients are not the type of people who want a pile of old parts back either. So he can charge for the new & sell or reuse the old parts he keeps.

      I've only heard good things about Chip Foose as a person, unlike people I've worked for, unlike Barris and others. But personally, I think it's a waste of a nice driver. And it probably cost more than you're guess.

    I've had a love affair with the 1957 Bel Air since I was about 5. I'm a total purists, but must say that is one mind-blowing resto-mod. Typical Foose masterpiece. My dream example though? A black convertible, red/silver interior, white top, totally stock and loaded with all the important drive-train options BUT without a single cosmetic add-on except white-walls. No bumper tips of any kind (I think the original flat "gunsite" disks look perfect), spinners, skirts, con. kit, right mirror, dual antenna's, or bumper guards. Just a focus on that perfect design.
