    The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

    Roy's one and only appearance, and the only song he ever performed on the Sullivan show. Although this is a great song, I think it's a shame he never performed any of his legendary ballads on the show which were his unique signature. I wonder if Ed never heard them because I feel a great opportunity was missed. Roy should have been a frequent guest, as one of the greatest singers of his and any other time.

    the always terrific Roy Orbison.....well respected and admired by his peers...his Black and White Night a testament to those feelings by the artists that accompanied him and a very fine concert.....one not to be missed.......by his fans.
    interesting that Roy shared a trait that was and is very common to stage performers.......freight!.....a battle he fought his whole life and which no doubt due to the stress it created in him...had something to do with his death by a heart attack at only 52....though it should be noted Roy was a heavy smoker...and over-weight....a very bad trifecta for anyone hoping to live a long life....

    • @jamesparker1063
      @jamesparker1063 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the "stage-fright" thing is over-blown...he said that he was always "initially" nervous, when performing, but that it melted away, as he got going; he was only sleightly "over-weight", not obese by any standards; but, he WAS a fairly heavy smoker, life-long; he had open heart surgery a decade or so before he finally passed, but he didn't stop, and if any "cause" is ascribed, it would have been "heart failure", due, primarily, to the smokes! 😞...

      I have it, too, along with 500 or 600 other 45's, mostly from the 1960's. Years ago, I put them on audio tapes...it took 18 of them, but such great music!

      I heard that he accidentally left his regular glasses on the tour bus and had to go on stage with his prescription sunglasses. They were a hit so he just kept doing it.

      @@leerunning4666 that is exactly correct; "stage-fright" had nothing to do with it; by the time he adopted the dark Raybans, he had been performing, "on-stage", for over a decade....
