    Wei Koh, what an absolute legend. You may get mocked through saying “yes” too much much but I love it. I adore your passion and thank you for sharing such great content. ‘Yes, yes yes”

      He also says sure a lot too! But best of all he knows when to talk & when to listen. I don’t think I’ve come across a more articulate, creative wordsmith anywhere & my late ex-wife was quite the gifted academic so I’ve experienced intellectual bamboozeliingup the waazoo!

    I don't understand Hess' point about the "Eagle Beak" crown guard being unpopular with divers because "they couldn't be turned underwater with the same efficiency... ". I was never aware that divers would unscrew the crown and change the time underwater. This seems inaccurate to me.

    • @billmedic1995
      @billmedic1995 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      philips defreville same here...maybe he meant the inability to turn the crown with gloves on?

    • @ArmandTheWatchGuy
      @ArmandTheWatchGuy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      + philips defreville: As I understand it, these were made from cases with large, square crownguards which made the crown difficult to use altogether. The eagle-beak was simply a shaved-down version of this case to give customers something whilst Rolex developed its rounded crownguards to be released a year later.

    34mm is totally underrated...i have a wrist fitting for 34mm and very happy with that! Buying 34mm takes you away from the centre of the storm to a place under normal conditions where there is plenty of choice without cutthroat conditions.

    One thing I appreciate about the watch community is how informed people are about not only watches but everyday topics as well. In light of that I think it is important to point out that Rwanda is a country in Africa located relatively nearer to the equator and to more the east side of the continent where as South Africa (as the name suggests) is the southern most country on the continent.

    $4000 watches question... I've ploughed into 34mm Rolex eg 6694/6426 yes... but also Tudors 34mm tuxedo, bull's eye, roulette, cross hair are the next big thing - The No1 undervalued watch though is the Tudor 79260/70/80 Chronograph 'small block' $4000 gets you an Arabic dial and $5000 gets you a Batton dial...even the most expensive 79260 the transitional (Rolex crown/watchback) reverse panda at $6500 is great value...these will all double in value in 7-8 years hot on heels of 'big blocks' !!

    Spot on with the comments about Basel and the misguided direction it is taking. That said, some of the gripes Wei mentions are more to do with the way the Swiss treat people - it is not a particularly customer-friendly culture - rather than the failings of the watch fair people at Basel.

    • @arnoldduran4953

      JavasBest I dont think people who "invest" in watches do it for a high return upon reselling. I think its meant more as an . . .added bouns or incentive or i guess reason/excuse to a degree to buy a watch.
      But when buying higher end pieces , the peices vary and certain brands hold value, raise in value, decreass a little or a lot. they mean that if your gonna drop 3k-20k-50k on a watch, make sure you can get your back if you decide to sell it.

    Please do not tell me that the only difference is the chronograph seconds hand is painted orange.........this guy is the definition of trying to hard to fit in/be cool. Only 40 made with this hand? For gosh sakes talk to me when the watch has a unique case, a unique dial, a unique movement......that’s rarity.

    • @jeanlefranc3817

      One way to look at it is : does it make sense to pay 40 grands for a nice vintage Speedmaster fitted with an orange second hand which is one millimeter longer or shorter than other period correct Omega second hands ? That’s for you to decide. Another approach is : for a fairly unique timepiece, with an Omega extract, looks like a bargain compared to more mundane vintage Rolex Daytonas. In the end, the market decides.
