    Really cool! But a more a seamless way to now do this if you have Max for Live is Ableton Drummer's device called "Control Flexible Loop Sections"
    All you have to do is make dummy midi clips (no notes needed) for the sections you might want to loop, and then when the song gets to that point it will automatically move the loop brace to the start and end of the dummy clip.
    You then only need one midi map that turns the loop brace on or off.

    sounds very cool . i actually use melodyne inside ableton live to loop without a click . melodyne does a great job of recognizing all my tempo changes in my recorded parts and maps out the tempo change as an automation clip. i just needed a way to move between different sections of the tempo mapped audio inside arrangement view. i will definitely try out your idea, thanks so much for such a good idea and video !

    Thank you for this man, I’ve been digging into using virtual midi bus lately and this was something i didn’t think to try!
    First,i had never mapped the “Prev locator” to a midi controller, or any locator for that matter. Those were mostly text labels for me haha. And second, I was interpreting the “Speaker On/Off” button too literally…since that’s what it’s called in the automation parameter list. like, i thought it would only mute audio if turned off. But since it also “mutes” midi messages, you can effectively create a “loop out” button. Super effective

    thank you so much for the locator tip! I tried it and it sometimes work (the little arrow is immediately linked to C-2), but sometimes I press endlessly on the arrow (while on Ctrl+M) and nothing happens ! Do you know what could be the problem?

      I had a similar issue. You have to make sure you click the arrow before it plays over the midi note. Then, it will automatically assign it. Hope this helps!

    Hello! Been using your IAC driver workaround for about a year now, and it’s been beautiful, this idea really changed how we’ve been using playbacks in our band. However, recently I found something that might be the next big thing for my backing tracks - and it’s actually referred to using loop brackets!) Also, the IAC driver is somehow buggy with my Mac and sets a have set up, so I’ve been looking for another solution for a while
    So, I’ve been using the ClyphX script for automating my tempo throughout the set (the free version, not the pro), and I recently discovered that it can automate the arranger loop points as well
    As I’m using the free version, I reset the loop with LOOP RESET command for each song part (marked by a locator) and then move it via LOOP >x command (actually involves a bit of math as I have to calculate the amount of bars I need to move it to)
    The problem with that it’s gonna be difficult to transfer it to master set (no way to transfer the locators, so I will have to rewrite it manually each time), but I believe this problem is solved in the Pro version of the script as it moves the loop start automatically, so you only need to write the loop length to a clip once and for all and then just copy it to the locator name. Otherwise it seems to work just fine
    Hope this is gonna help somebody - it’s really good for me as I can now use my MPC Live Control Mode and trigger the arranger from the device and therefore not have my laptop on stage
    Again, thanks for all your tutorials, they’ve been really helpful in a band playback context!

    Been doing Ableton/playback stuff forever like 12 years and came across your channel per recommendation from my best friend Keith (who you know) and love your stuff bro! I’ve been doing things similar which is awesome so I’m glad I’ve been doing it right haha. Question for you. I’m using my looptimus pedal but I need to be able to turn off an Ableton track with the same foot button. Can that be done? Haven’t been able to and drives me crazy haha.

    I want to build a session in arrangement view, but want to have few parts in the project to build (and raw record) spontaneous loops like in session view with various vst and acoustic instruments. Any advice? Thank you!

    • @fromstudiotostage
      @fromstudiotostage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can always use looper to record parts and then automate on/off or volume to bring back into sessions, but as soon as you're doing a looping setup (like you described) I think it's worth going over to session view. I find you'll spend far too much time trying to automate arrangement view to do what session view is made for

    • @JuanluGarcia
      @JuanluGarcia ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fromstudiotostage @fromstudiotostage Thank you so much for your response. I was considering also looper, but wanted to have the raw mic and midi recordings of the loops, for mixing the live performances afterwards and looper only provides the final result. I think I can't stick to session view in my case, since there are complex forms in the compositions. If there is a way to route the tracks to 1.external raw record 2. looper, at the same time, I think I could try the on/off automation you've suggested.

    thanks for all your videos. I'm a relatively newbie to LIVE. I am currently recording midi and audio tracks for songs in session view, for use in live performances with a duo partner or full band.
    so I am missing something? Isn't session view the place to trigger and loop clips & scenes of a song for live performance? I admit I am not to aware of the uses for arrangement view quite yet.

    • @fromstudiotostage
      @fromstudiotostage  ปีที่แล้ว

      session view = non-linear live looping performances. arrangement view=linear, song based performances (and the ability to loop, repeat, and jump around your song session).
      Don't think too hard on it. If it's live performance of a song start in arrangement view. If it's a live looping, spontaneous (no plan or structure set).. start in session view.

    Nice process, but I think that it may be a little more complicated. Help me with this part ... I warp my clips and then bring them into arrangement view. I then use an automation lane on the Master Track to adjust the tempo for each song. It sounds great, and the click lines up ... but the measure markers in arrangement view DO NOT! So if you have the quantize setting at one measure, the arrangement view measure markers that don't line up. So I can put the locater marker where I want it to start a looping section, but the repeat midi note is going to wait to fire for the measure marker in arrangement view ... which isn't aligned! How can I fix this when every song is a different tempo?

    • @fromstudiotostage
      @fromstudiotostage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah-super straight forward. You can use a measures template. Check the channel for more info

    • @jakejones7554
      @jakejones7554 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here's what I would suggest:
      You can drop your songs in a specific point at the end of a given measure. At that measure, you can change the meter if necessary to the new meter, and you can change the time in the same method you are using. This method will give you the timing you want to see, where songs start and end on a given point in the grid. This will also allow this loop function to work at the given place you need it to.

    unfortunately it doesn't work with bars shorter than 4/4... it only loops once and then jumps to the marker next before the section to loop. I assume Live is not fast enough with shorter bars. Any help or ideas on this issue??

    • @fromstudiotostage
      @fromstudiotostage  ปีที่แล้ว

      It does, you just need to add time signature changes and consider global quantization. I leave mine set to 1 bar and it follows time signature changes, so any bars work

    • @maxrott3345
      @maxrott3345 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fromstudiotostage thanks for your answer. I have done that though and cant get it to work. It works in 4/4 or longer parts perfectly but if you want to loop one single bar in 2/4 it doesnt work unfortunately...

    • @fromstudiotostage
      @fromstudiotostage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting...
      I tried it in 2/4 and got the same issue. Whether you use previous locator or MIDI map to previous locator it does jump too far the second time. Not sure why.
      If you really needed to loop a 2/4 section, you can map directly to the locator instead of previous locator-that's working perfectly fine for me with a 2/4 bit.
      That's for bringing that up-that's a bug I've never seen before (I don't know that I've ever had-or will have the need to loop a 2/4 bit).. but looks like a "bug" on Ableton's part for sure.

    Thanks a lot for this IAC trick. I moved from session view to arrangement with success thanks to you and it really works better for my performances having linear and looping sections in the same song. But now I can't figure out how to record my live performance on disk. When I used session view I could rec on arrangement view. But now I can't just play and rec in arrangement view at the same time, because cursor may sometimes loop and erase my records while I'm playing. I tried to use another computer to just listen and rec but it's tedious. I'm on Mac. Anybody has any idea to sort this out ? :)

    • @fromstudiotostage
      @fromstudiotostage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Since you can’t have “multiple timelines” in arrangement view this isn’t possible.

    When I midi map my anything to the on/off button of the repeat track, the audio drops out once I enable or disable the track. Does that happen to anyone else?

    • @Ybylpz1
      @Ybylpz1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, it does. Seems to be referred to the IAC driver itself, as mapping something to it causes a MIDI feedback loop which pushes the cpu quite a bit. This is why I moved to automating the loop bracket position (you can see my solution in the comments below)

    • @fromstudiotostage
      @fromstudiotostage  ปีที่แล้ว

      The IAC driver doesn’t cause audio drop outs, that is caused by something else. It’s just MIDI mapping.
      Using the IAC driver doesn’t create a MIDI feedback loop.
      If you use it incorrectly, it will create a MIDI feedback loop, so you need to confirm your settings are correct
