    Apologies! We misspoke. While Vokey wedges are forged for Japanese and Tour models, they aren’t forged for the majority of the market.
    Sorry for the error and hope y’all enjoy.

      The Vokeys played by the PGA Tour guys are not forged, they are cast as well. None of the Vokeys made for/sold in the US market are forged. The forged Vokeys are Japan-market only.

    I feel like a lot of commenters here watched a different video than I did. I think he was fairly transparent about him obviously having bias because of his experience and the custom nature of the clubs and thats why he had a 3rd party there who said the inconsistent nature of the contact and the numbers showed that the Artisan wedges were performing better. He was also getting 4k less spin with a higher loft with the kirkland 52* compared to the Artisan 49*. Not a good thing for wedges. For people saying its hating on the people who cant afford $1,000 for wedges, he mentions he knows that its not an accessible thing for everyone and he also said the better solution than the Kirklands would be to get used wedges that are major brands for close to the same amount of money. As someone who was a fitter for major companies and who also worked in the used club space, I would agree with that. That being said, there is nothing wrong with the Kirkland clubs if thats what you have but they will limit lower handicap players moreso than some good quality used wedges from a more established brand.

    • @ashtonoppermangolf
      @ashtonoppermangolf 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Agree with most of this outside of the used wedge option. Being a fitter myself, golfers tend to use wedges far longer than they should and the grooves wear down substantially. I believe the new grooves on the Kirkland's would outperform other used wedges, this again is assuming one is paying the same price (apples-to-apples comparison). However, the moral of the story is to consider going through a wedge fitting to find out what works best.

    • @jameszaimes7407
      @jameszaimes7407 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @ashtonoppermangolf for sure on some used wedges having worn grooves but going to the used section of a golf galaxy or pga superstore, opposed to online, you can make sure the used wedge you're getting is in good shape but yes, definitely something you need to pay close attention to.

    The Costco wedges are giving just what they were built for. Weekend golfer 15 to 28 handicap or new golfer. Perfectly marketed at a place where you but bulk toilet paper and ketchup. I am an 18 handicap, 67 years old and I own the Kirkland putter. I love it. My game doesn't justify a 600.00 Scottie Cameron putter. The guy who carries that putter carries personalized 1000.00 wedges. I really enjoy the channel.

    The Kirklands are 10 percent the cost and play 90 plus percent as well Artisan clubs(which are fully customized to your swing). The three reasons I could think of to get the Artisan's would be to support American manufacturing, if your game is at the collegiate level or better, or you just like the idea of nice looking clubs.

  • @dwboston1
    @dwboston1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Biggest differences between the two are going to be sole grind and tolerances. Artisan will custom grind the soles for your specific swing pattern and the turf conditions you play in most, and the wedges will be spot-on in terms of specs and weighting. The Kirklands are just cast blanks with generic, wider soles and no specific grind. Fine for most casual players, but it's amazing how much difference the right sole grind can make in terms of contact, where you contact it on the face, and getting through the sand/turf.

    Interesting. I bought some of the original Kirkland wedges (just for fun) and they spin like crazy. I tested them against Vokey's (and a few others) and they (Kirks) were spinning significantly more. My only real complaint(s) are the grips feel too thin, and the they are super shiny, so they can blind you on a sunny day. But performance was as good or better than the more expensive brands, and they feel fine. Also, pretty sure Vokey's are not forged 🤔 I kind think you talked yourself (likely subconsciously) into the result you found. You definitely seemed to swing the expensive clubs with more speed and confidence.

    I wonder how well the Kirklands would perform with a better shaft. Dynamic Gold S300s or even Apollo shafts are not very expensive and reshafting might solve some of the contact issues you were having and improve the swing feel. Those stock shafts are probably meant for a slower swing speed player. I personally struggle with a lot of off the rack wedges because they are too light and whippy. As a result, the release is hard to control and contact is inconsistent. Stiffer, heavier wedges are just more consistent. A lot of tour players have heavier wedges as well. Thankfully, reshafting irons / wedges with steel shafts is relatively easy to do. Alternatively, you could partner with a local custom club maker to reshaft them, get the flex profile, total weight, length, lie, and swing weight to be similar to the more expensive wedges, then retest. I highly doubt you would end up spending $900 to refit those wedge heads. A follow-up video would be great to see and perhaps spark an interesting adventure into the world of custom clubs (Maltby, etc.).

    Not to be that guy but to totally be that guy there's a fundamental misunderstanding in the difference between forged and cast clubs here. Same steel composition with the same heat treatment 99% of people won't notice the difference. The difference people claim there is between forged and cast in terms of feel is a fallacy of perception of price and "quality". High end forged clubs will "out perform" lower end cast because the high end starts with a very homogenous billet of good steel and will have countless hours of work put into them. Compare that to a cheaper cast club that may not have the best steel and just run through an assembly line to get as many out the door as possible. It just comes down to do you want to sell a little for a lot or sell a lot for a little.
    Like people have been saying in the comments Vokeys aren't forged but people think they're forged because of the price, perception, and reputation.
    Also scientifically speaking there is no measurable difference between raw face and coated face wedges.

    So, you think the Kirklands are Vokey ripoffs, but not the Artisan? The Artisan look like the SM 9s and SM 10s way more than the Kirklands do.

    As I watch the Women’s US Open, I think the next Breaking should be where they play. As a 4 handicap I always think I could do ok, but I am delusional! I want to see how much they dominate golf vs us hacks.

    Kirklands are good not great wedges. I had an instant improvement when I switched to vokeys the weighting is way superior. Pure spin I’m sure they are similar.

    Only minutes in and I can tell this vid is CAP. of course you have a lower loft it’s gonna go further. Ofcourse if the loft is higher you’ll have a deeper divot. I don’t own Kirkland but there is NO WAY your clubs are 10X better.

    As much as I would love to get my hands on Artisans wedges, i can't justify the cost versus the Kirkland. 1, my wife would kill me and 2 I would be wasting my money. Being a high handicapper and playing once or twice a month, the Kirkland wedges is perfect for me in terms of cost.......especially cost, playability and everything else. If I was swimming in a money everyday, then sure why not but otherwise no thanks.

    Vokey is not FORGED. And I remember when you started. Now it’s beneath you to play a brand like Kirkland. A have an old friend that was on Tour. Grew up poor. Very poor. He once said he would have played with anything you would have given him. No fitting available. I think if your game holds up, it holds up. Artisian will not win you majors. 😂
