I’d say live service on all fronts just for the fact of a unified community. It’s important to have everyone able to use all the content and not have any barriers to entry, even if the quality might be alittle uneven.
If people can pay $80 for a monkey fist im pretty sure dlc would work better nowadays. People will buy anything now unlike back then when all of cod players were teenagers with no job. We are all grown up now.
Live service so I can pay nothing and fools can spend hundreds on cosmetics. If the maps are crap, and they likely will be these days, I'm not buying them. I'm not doubling the amount I spend on these games every single year. These games aren't worth the $70 they ask upfront imo
@@QuickNETTech or dlc so you can choose Not to pay and ill enjoy new maps that are actually worth paying for. After this game I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes back to only adding 1 MP map per season like MW2. Sledgehammer did a great job adding content but treyarch will be stretched thin between these new few games coming out. So free content will suck again.
@@ItsAmandaBruhh why would you want to go back to having to choose whether you want to give a mega corp more of your hard earned money for garbage or not when you could just get the garbage for free? The free content has continued to improve and even if it got worse, you really think they're not gonna screw you with paid DLC and make that worse too? They're charging more for mtx than the game is worth for garbage cosmetics like the Kong crap. Obviously they'll just shove out some crap, sucker you in with some nice marketing (or they'll sucker you in from the start with the season pass where you bought only god knows what) and then run with your money, all the while dividing the player base making the experience worse. CoD moved away from paid DLC for a reason: it makes less money; and I don't think they're gonna go for making less. Quality isn't tied to the cost, if it was maybe it would be worth it but it's simply not. The live service model has some issues yes but if we're to move to something else it shouldn't be regressing to what we had before, we should be looking for a new model that fixes the problems we have now without reintroducing the problems of old.
I would much rather pay for quality DLC, a map pack versus the live service model personally.. I miss when it used to be a guarantee and not a inconsistent flow of content from the past years since 2019. Live service model reminds me of slow drip coffee with random flavors ☕ It goes so slow and in this case, I would say the coffee is underwhelming. I want my coffee instantly (every few months) knowing exactly what im going to get (4 MP maps + zombies). Back in the day, the map pack style used to give me so much joy knowing that I get to play new content that is mostly great. Feels like it used to force developers to create something good, because it was going to release for players to buy every other month, versus now, it feels like the developers throw rehash of maps or maps that just suck for the most part. Yeah they are free now, but the quality has gone downhill so much, with a few exceptions. What a great time to play Multiplayer back in the day, when the game used to be more complete and the DLC was a bonus rather than games now that feel unfinished and the Live service content feels like content that was supposed to be in the game from release.. DLC > Live Service
I think it’s pretty much impossible for COD to start charging for content now. Imagine they flip the switch and now all the MP and Zombies content that you just had for free last year is now completely paywalled. People would just go play something else that’s got free updates, which Activision values player numbers over stuff like DLC sales now so they’d be losing potential players by paywalling content.
I would prefer a hybrid model where I receive multiplayer maps for free but pay a premium for “high quality” zombies content. For example, I would really like a zombies season pass that guarantees a certain amount of maps that have certain expectation in quality.
I prefer Live Service for COD for a few reasons. 1. Paid DLC isn't necessarily guaranteed. Sure, they are telling you that you will be getting X amount of content X times, but that doesn't always come to fruition. There have been plenty of games where they announce DLC, then they cancel it. The same can happen with paid DLC for COD(even the worst of Live Service COD still got minimal support instead of getting canned). 2. When done right, Live Service provides the player with more content more frequently. Of course that's not really how it's gone with every COD, but it has on occasion(Cold War technically had the most Zombies Content we've ever seen, and MWIII has supported MP pretty well). 3. As a primarily Zombies guy I had to buy the whole Map Pack just to play the $5 Zombies map(the $5 is confirmed via when you could randomly individually buy the Zombies Maps for BO3 and BO4). 4. The map pack content isn't always good(as you guys said). There are so many bad MP maps that have been been part of map packs. 5. Even if we still had Map Packs we'd still have $20+ Bundles with the same quality of content(we'd just be getting it in bulk every 2 1/2 months instead of with medium sized drops with some smaller drops sprinkled in). What I'd prefer is how we all hoped MWIII was going to work. Give us a games Live Service, then sell us the "sequel" for half price(if you don't own the previous game then it's the full $70). Also, don't remove content, because that's bullshit. I wouldn't mind if we went back to the Paid DLC model, but a $70 Game + 4 $15 DLC Packs(or a $50-60 Season Pass) + a $10-30 Battle Pass(5-6 Times) + $20+ Bundles + Whatever else they add in the future(like if Gobble Gum returns) = way too much stuff to pay for, because we all know Overpriced Bundles and Blackcell aren't going anywhere.
I absolutely agree I think they are gonna full reset so all cosmetics will be useless or only stay in warzone 🤔 I mean they have to import the black ops 6 cosmetics into warzone tho right? I feel like they're gonna do a cold war merg all over again or something because they'll wanna keep warzone a float but I think all MW3 skins will not be usable in black ops 6
i feel like it’s very much a conversation about quality vs quantity. i obviously have bias for bo1/bo2/mw3 dlc models bc i thought those were so much fun and brought a lot to the table, but they improved the game and provided quality. i did really like the live service aspect of cold war tho also bc i felt they really put effort into the weapons/zombies/changes of warzone. im ok with live service but if it’s genuinely adding content to the game in a meaningful way. i don’t really care if we get 100 updates on a game but they’re all minor and shit, and adding stuff branded as new that should’ve been in the game on launch. i value quality and i think that can exist in a live service model so that we’re not stuck in a 4 dlc/year cycle
Before I fully watch the podcast I want to say why live service I feel like is better. It saves games with bad maps at launch e.g. MW2019 and Ghosts. MW2019 had really bad maps at launch but some very good dlc maps that saved the game for a lot of people. Ghosts same thing but the difference is that the MW2019 dlc maps were free and now are on disc while with Ghosts, you have to pay another 60$ for them and it's just not worth having to spend 60$ to get good maps in a game with bad maps.
@@GoingDarkPodcast yeah but that's the thing. DLC was really good. But you had to pay an extra 60$. And after the life cycle, the chances for you to find a match on those maps is 0. So it's a waste of 60$.
The thing with DLC versus live service on call of duty’s point of view is that when DLC was a thing you got what you believed was worth $15 (in the case of a DLC map pack worth 5 maps) or $2.99 in the case of a camo pack. I am using BO2 for that example specifically. That stuff was reasonable. Nowadays with live service when you want to go buy something it’s charging an INSANE price for just one camo or one King Kong glove. A price of which is almost the full game. That makes no sense at all! Like you said too is the game either mediocre or just bad then it doesn’t incentivize people to care about it. It also doesn’t help that CoD’s live service is an exact copycat of so many others. It doesn’t do anything different with itself that you haven’t already seen before.
So if everyone had to pay for these extra maps then what happens if someone wants to compete but they don’t have the money to buy these extra maps that everyone wants to use in the tournaments?
Live service is a no brainer better option for me. WRT the restaurant v buffet analogy, you might get to pick your own meal at a restaurant, but then you can’t sit beside your friends who order something different.
Us people out here that’s not streamers we don’t make the money you make that $15 could go towards the gas, electric bill, gas or lunch for work or maybe parking
With the live service model it feels as it most games never get play tested prior to launching or updating but its relatively easy just to play as most times you just need the game, and then the dlc model works but causes great division in the communities as it limits some players access to content. All in all the current version isn’t really amazing or awful but I’m playing it, at least it’s better than Vanguard.
I dont like the fact that DLC split up the playerbase, but nothing beats preordering the new cod with the season pass and just have the map packs come out.

Would 100% rather paid DLC. You (most of the time) felt like you got your moneys worth when you had to fork out like $15 a pack, 4 maps and possibly a gun all at once, compared to now, even though it's free, it's drip fed the entire season. Back in the day the devs would drop a DLC, then immediately get started making the next 4 maps for the next DLC, now they take like a month break each time and do nothing in between, no wonder the content is always rushed and garbage. Least back in the day it felt exciting when a new DLC would drop, you knew the devs actually put in the effort rather than nowadays they either remake old maps or AI generate "new" ones, incompetence and laziness is how I describe modern day Cod devs.
