@@phoenics0912Nope , i_o was a signed artist under mau5trap who died of a chronic disease... he was also a fan and good friend of joel.. days before his demise i_o send joel a text saying how much of a great artist joel was and how his song "bridged by a lightwave" helped hin cope with certain dark things with his life. This song is joels way of paying respect to his buddy ( input_output can be shortened as i_o)... U can clearly hear i_o kind of hook and melody style in this production....

@@mandr3w I actually heard it in MGM Music Hall, but it's nice to hear that Joel has played it in other shows in case I missed out on seeing him at a certain venue.
The "no crowd" i_o sets from the pandemic era will live forever. The visuals and attention to detail in that production is excellent, and without the festival opulence....the music just feels more real.
Usually it is the opposite: that offline content feels more real.
Amon Tobin - ISAM2.0 is another amazing moment of modern edm imo.
Audio playback on this is SO CLEAN AND CRISP.
Joel never fails in this aspect.

There's this crazy high end audio store I would frequent every so often a couple years ago, and many of the go-to demo tracks for their systems were deadmau5 songs. It really was a perfect fit.

I'll make sure to purchase this one. Listening to it on TH-cam is like rolling up to a seven-course meal and not being able to sit down to eat. It's there; you can smell it, but you can't rely on this audio to truly taste it.

He actually doesn't know anything about music theory and cannot even play anything (his own words), he's just very creative (even though a lot of his melodies and sounds are just recycled from other songs and this one is a good example) and he found a formula that works for him and made it his. And lets be honest, no music theory is needed to make any genre of music (specially EDM) other than Classical and maybe Jazz.
@@gnomerod You don't need to know how to play an instrument to understand theory, you're confusing theory with technique.. And no, you need music theory to make literally anything whether its jazz or EDM. The basic structures of music require a basic understanding of theory such as staying in key, tempo, phrasing. etc.
@@gnomerod...that's classical musical theory. There's a whole entire subsect for electronic music theory, which if you pay attention is actually very mathematically organized such that it has an auditory shape not replicable with human instruments.

In 2022 I suffered an injury which required metal implants to be surgically placed in my left kneecap
I remember one day being awake from the pain at 4am and turning on my TV to a Twitch stream of the man producing this track
Then a few months later when I was off crutches I saw him play this in a club in New York

So the melody that begins from 5:40 is actually from an unrealesed deadmau5 track, with the name "Rio" on TH-cam from about 8 years ago now. It is such a powerful sound that gives me goosebumps everytime.
Intriguing how "Rio" and "Input Output" (i_o) are the same characrers, so maybe it was intentional that Joel chose this track to reference i_o? Or maybe I'm just overanalyzing, who knows?..

I can't stop coming back to this. Other songs will give you a certain type of feel depending on your mood. This just seems like it fits in a more general sense to anything. Like it's timeless or something... idk how to explain it.

It's still gotta be one of the best deadmau5 videos for sure... 😊 If you knew what it took to generate that CGI at that frame rate and at that resolution, real 4k video. My friend Jessie and I made this video about 12 - 13 years ago, for this track, that another friend and I had just recorded. Its sounds come in part from an audio recording that was from a recent test firing of a SpaceX rocket. This had to be somewhere around 2007. 😊

The chords in the first third of the song really feel funerary and mournful for me, with the rest afterward feeling more dissociated but also rising to be more upbeat. I love it. So glad it finally got released, and the visualizer with it is incredibly well done! I really hope to be able to learn these sorts of skills.

After some research I think it is from "when the summer dies", just instead of making it very compressed(?) and narrowing it down, made it stand out in this track

I LOVE that deadmau5 reuses his unbeliveably beautiful chord progressions across many different tracks.
Hearing them in different contexts and with slight variation is always a treat.
He's one of the only artists I know that does that. Rio, then the second version of Rio, nosedive, Rio x growler by pig and Dan, and this.. all incredible uses of the same progression.
