I’ll never forget watching this I believe it was senior year of high school and I stayed in after school just to record this on a VHS Tape … I remember it was freezing out that day
Grandmaster Flash, didn't invent the heaedphone cue. He created a device that allowed you to do the headphone cue that was already available on high end rotary mixers used at the discotechs of the time. He made it so that it was available on lower end mixers, but before Flash, headphone cue was already available.
I don't know why he has always spouted that bs? I think he may have been involved in the cross-fade, & as an electrician, he would know how to make a queing system, but not Invent something that was already in the disco setups.
I’m only 17 years old and I’m into old school DJing and Hip Hop. Rest in peace to Jam Master Jay from Run DMC. The best DJ to ever touch two turntables and a mixer
+vincethefunk ....WORD UP.....but this is more about TURNTABLE DJz .....THE FATHER HERC .he was a sound system and records dj...not a mix or scratch...same with BAM.......they didnt always come in on beat....
Damn this is HUGE. How tf i miss this. Crazy to belive TV was this dope if you lived in america in tha 90's. Couldnt even imagine that shyt. All they played out here was BS. We really had to do research and travel to diffrent countries just to aquire dope shyt. But big thanks for uploads like this, sure wish i had this shyt growin up. Salute
Some of the greatest DJs of all time use DVS (laptops). DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Scratch, DJ Rob Swift, Mix Master Mike, QBert, Grandmaster Flash...need I go on?
I was 22 when this aired I was doing parties in Westchester county NY I am originally from the Bronx NY started DJ in 1990 i remember buying tapes from kid Capri & Ron g doo wop DJ show time dj s&s my influence growing up was dj Red alert Chuck chill out
Shout out to Dj Cash Money and Dj Jazzy Jeff. Who revolutionized turntable routines and is never given their proper respect. NEW YORK pioneered Hip hop Dj Culture But Philly Djs took it to another level. Shout out to Dj Cosmic Kev Lightning Rich RIP 🙏 Dj Miz Dj Tat Money Dj Ran the original Dj Spinbad aka Master D the originater of the Transformer Scratch. Gary O and Grand Wissord Rasheen
Steve Dee of the X-Men invented beat juggling. West coast djs coined the term though. It was originally called JUGGLING as far back as 92, maybe even before that. I don't know when the word BEAT was added in front of it. Possibly around the mid 90's.
Beat juggling has been around since the 70's - kind of how Rap music got started. Check out RUN D.M.C.s "Here We Go" the whole song is Beat-juggled Live by Jam Master Jay and was performed/ recorded in the early 80's.
Technically that wasn't really beat juggling. That was backspinning or back cueing. Had he rearranged the kick and snare into a new pattern then that could have been considered beat juggling.
Would you look how crazy that young adult crowd was?! not even the most famous get a crowd like that in a studio, musicians and people had more soul just 10 plus years back.
these here two cats is what you call DJs all that laptop all that computers laptops that's cheating because these DJs back in my era Grandmaster Flash Jam Master Jay DJ Scratch DJ Grand wizard Theodore Kool DJ AJ mr. Magic Red Alert Funkmaster Flex and the list goes on and on these are what you call DJs old school always rules
technology has moved on..you have to move with the times..mix master mike the greatest turntablist ever uses serato and traktor now it saves carrying a ton of plastic about when you can have your musici on a laptop or memory stick..ive got some 1200s and some cdj2000s i use the 12s for scratching and use the cdjs for mixing..i did spend 15 years playing with vinyl..but to be honest mixing dance music on 12s is like driving a model t ford and mixing on cdjs is like driving a rolls royce..

"Awesome artist who put the battle back in creativly. Making suka djs return to their seat, breaking their spirit, while I break it down kold and funky"soulltekken dj O~EYE
I used to have this on video tape haha. The 3 dj's that battled number 2 should of won because he flipped the records off beat and made a beat out of it, that was creativity and it sounded raw, it is what it is i suppose. PEACE. One more thing master flash knew infamous had it, you would of thought abit more reaction from these legengary dj's?
I'm shaking my head!!!! Check it out. Everybody(excluding the crowd because they are your average, mainstream hip hop listening, MTV watching audience)....EVERYBODY-Skribble, Slynke, GMF and JMJ-KNEW that Infamous won. BUT...........because of the forum this was held in, they had to pick somebody who didn't go over the crowd's head, which obviously Infamous did. Rare Form????? SMDH...... JMJ was just being nice by what he said about him. He sure did have alot going on with him! That was JMJ's subtle way of saying he train wrecked!!!!
Goes against my principles to shout out breaks, because I believe in Crate Diggin.. but I gotta sound out on this because no one gives credit to the original DJ / Producer of the actual breakbeat that's playing at 0:45 - It's called the 900 Number by Mark The 45 king.
YESSSSSSSS YOU GOT IT!!!!!! I had this on tape too but I lost it with my property. Thanks Brian for posting this. This was Hip-Hop TV History on MTV.
Man times back then... Nowadays everybody is in "music" but every where you go you can't get this kind of vibe.

Holy crap, I thought I'd never see this again. I remember watching this back around when I starting to move more into turntablism from regular djing.
Same era of my life as well 💪🏽💯🙌🏽
Grandmaster Flash, didn't invent the heaedphone cue. !
I'm glad all this good hip hop shit was documented
This was my first time watching this and it was amazing to see all the dj's cutting and scratching thanks for posting this
nobody mentioned Kool Herc.....the founder of breaks.
+vincethefunk ....WORD UP.....but this is more about TURNTABLE DJz
.....THE FATHER HERC .he was a sound system and records dj...not a mix or scratch...same with BAM.......they didnt always come in on beat....
See club Djs actually scratched in 90s :)
+DJ Jeff Luis and MTV actually give a damn about music and contents related to music in 90s.
I would never have the audacity to call myself a DJ unless i know how to cut on vinyl.
@@killaskrilla5320thank you 🙌🏽
Man this takes me back love this, R. I. P. Jam Master Jay .
