  • Ralph Chessé was a prolific artist who made a lasting impact on the Bay Area arts and theater scene. He was the creator of Brother Buzz, a children’s television puppet show that ran from 1953 to 1969. He was also one of the mural artists who worked on the interior of Coit Tower for the Works Progress Administration during the 1930s. And he did a great many other artworks, including one of his nephew’s iconic Summer of Love band Big Brother & The Holding Company.
An exhibition of Chessé’s work is on display at the SF Public Library Main Branch through August 18, 2024. Rodney is joined by Chessé’s nephew, Peter Albin, to discuss his uncle’s career and impact on Bay Area arts.
