Ohhh my favourite least favourite topic... cyclists vs... the world. Every day, I pass through two traffic light controlled roundabouts, and every day I see car after car after van after truck drive straight through red lights... no cyclists, they are sensible enough to be on the excellent separate cycle lanes (nowhere near the roads) we have in sunny Weston by the Mud. Let he who is without sin etc. Vehicle aggression towards me as a cyclist I understand, I don't like, but I do understand. What I don't understand is the level of hatred I see on line from motorcyclists towards cyclists. And the reason I don't understand it is because in over 20,000 miles of recent riding, I cannot remember a single occasion, not even on the Hardknott Pass, where I (on a motorbike) have been held up by a cyclist. I HAVE been held up by cars that couldn't overtake cyclists, but that's not the cyclists fault, so why aim your hatred at them. It was either the road conditions, or more likely the lack of skill of the car driver that held up the motorbikes, not the cyclists. I've never seen hatred aimed towards farmers driving tractors, combines, tele handlers or stock lorries on the roads, so why single out cyclists? I could go on, but you know, cracked record and all that.
Exactly, Neil. We're very well aligned on this topic. Bad road users are going to be bad road users whatever mode of transport they are using. Data shows users of all modes of transport break the law at exactly the same rate. This whole "othering" of one class of user is disturbing. I strongly suspect it's orchestrated by the car lobby, to manipulate the hard of thinking into a silly culture war

I nearly got taken out today by an impatient tourist in an Audi (it's always an Audi/BMW/Volvo/Merc) Admittedly I had stopped at a junction to talk with a fellow BSA rider, but there are other ways of solving the problem of an obstructing vehicle (flash headlights/sound horn etc) than cutting across someone and putting their life in danger. Things like that happen every ride. 🤔

I think if I was riding alone I would love to wing it and book accommodation as I go depending on the route changes I make, but I was always worried with Karen on the back that I would not be able to get somewhere that she is comfortable in (I'm happy in a tent) 😂😂
"A few moments later" 😂 I've now got to the opinion that Motorways are so dangerous and life sucking in this country that they should all be reduced to 50mph and have average speed cameras everywhere. This would make them safer, less accidents, and you actually get to you destination quicker. This is not the case for European Motorways obviously, where the other road users are more courteous and the roads much quieter 🤷♂️
@@wsmv booking accommodation on the day definitely takes me outside of my comfort zone. I'm usually a "plan months ahead" guy. Could go well, could go horribly wrong...
@@wsmv too many people are on their cars unnecessarily, because they lack a viable alternative (good, convenient, cheap public transport; safe walking or cycling). Yet nobody can get past the car lobby and its political power. Policy is not allowed to change no matter how many times we change the party in power...

Congrats on getting monetized, I remember you saying recently that you were trying to get the watch hours. About the cyclists, for me its the law saying we have to watch out for them while watching them jump reds and ride illegal ebikes. As a cycle enthusiast myself I would like proper cycle infrastructure, less cars on the road = less cars in my way hehehe.

@@NooBiker I think it stems a bit from jealousy, watching them ignore rules we have to obey. Its very true in the grand scheme of things they are more annoyance than deadly threat.

Your channel is going very well mate, well done. Congrats. I am not monitized and my video's get adds, not sure why. Maybe I need to look at it, it may be normal. I don't really have issues with cyclists, I do worry about them on tight twisty roads, dangerous for them and other road users. The roads here in South Australia are not set up for them. It is a shame as I have just returned from Sweden and there are so many more cyclists who have some fantastic infrastructure to keep them safe. Take Care Mate and stay well. 😎

I am a bit behind on my YT viewing, I know there is some time travel in this video vs when it went up and was recorded. I was gutted to not be able to get to Brands this year, looked like you and the Ilford Stig had a lot of fun from your instagram phots 🙂 You have a good year of biking stuff planned. I am hoping to do a big trip at some point, but I doubt it will be this year now, but it'd be great to do Northern Spain, South of France and top of Italy again, not really bothered about Northern France or Switzerland currently, so will probs look at a ferry to Spain, and just head west till half way through any time off, turn around and come back again... hopefully have the best of the weather that way.... but currently it is mainly a pipe dream as skint 😀 Cyclists already get a 5 second headstart at traffic lights, so no need for them to jump them. Hardly any around where I live use the cycle lanes provided, so I really see no point locally to me for investment in more cycle lanes unless it becomes compulsory to use them when available. But we all have different opinions on what traffic laws are acceptable to break, so each to their own 🙂
Gosh you fitted a lot into that and are certainly going to be busy this next year or two. I'm glad business is picking up, it's a lot less stressful when you know the bills are covered with a bit to spare. I'm afraid I disagree with you about cyclists, already far too much money has been put into providing lanes for them that they don't use. Whilst lanes for cars etc have been reduced causing more congestion. Rules are rules and should as far as possible be stuck to, that's what keeps everyone safe. It's unfair to put extra responsibility on larger vehicles when the risk was ignored by someone feeling entitled. Whilst adverts may sell the freedom of vehicle ownership, the whole point of the learner process, theory and road tests is to encourage safe driving for all. For me it's the every split second is a delay mentality which is causing impatience and danger, along with faces buried in phones despite hands free tech.
I'm not arguing about the rules. I'm painting out that the danger to me, and to bikers, and to pedestrians, isn't coming from cycles. Five people die every day on average from car accidents. I'm going to focus on that as the danger, and treat cyclists as a very minor annoyance.
