Great story line about love What a wonderful daughter he had wanting to share with her little brother even when she knew he was her dad’s illegitimate son. Then the wife does something so unselfish and kind as well, what a class act by both of them. Richard was the selfish dishonest one.
"Passions" aired on the CBS Network in its weekly two-hour movie spot in 1984. Decades later Lifetime simply paid the production company and / or distributor a license fee to rerun it for a negotiated number of airings.
I love the old TV movies because not all the performers were perfect looking. Today all the TV dramas and movies are like a beauty pageant. Everyone is handsome and gorgeous.

This was a phenomenal movie!! The emotional twists and turns. The dichotomy of both women, loving the duality of the same man. He shared a different part of himself with both women. It is so sad to discover something so deceitful from a person you loved, and thought loved you. You can never truly know a person.

This movie is the story of my past life. I sympathize with the wife because I know exactly what she went through. You feel betrayed and you don't know if you should cry or curse him out. It's a lot of mix emotions going on. I took off my wedding ring soon after I burried him because I felt like he didn't love me.
A fab melodrama. Joanne Woodward is undoubtedly one of Americas finest actresses. She is literally brilliant in anything. I'm still astonished that Lindsay Wagner didn't become a huge movie star. She was so beautiful and had the talent to be big. She seemed to get stuck in TV land. Anyway it's a very enjoyable film.
Joseph Glover - I've always thought same thing about her. I think she was and is happy with who she is. She's into a true holistic life style and not all the politics of Hollywood. I think it was probably her choice to stay where she was. She's an excellent actress.
@L.A.Sharp Yes. She wasn't prepared to submit to the kind of "extracurricular" demands needed to get the really big, juicy roles her great talent deserved.
Lindsay Wagner was/is not a big star movie of Hollywood. People mostly didn't know who she was until they recognized her when she got her first show 70's called "The Bionic Woman" and then she became a famous actress. And she was the first youngest actress at the age of 28 to win a Primetime Emmy Award for The Bionic Woman in 1977 and she won another award for The Bionic Woman, also she got nominated for The Bionic Woman. She didn't have many awards for her roles in movies because she was never a hugh star actress in 80's and 90's, and she had 0 awards for her roles in TV movies. I remember reading people said they mostly didn't seem to like watching her play different characters in her TV moves because her characters were boring and trash, expect for her best character Jaime from The Bionic Woman only, they loved her acting Jaime because the great things that was so great about her was that she was kind goofy and humor. That's all what they said about this. From what I read the person posts on Blog that he/she says today of kids still recognize Lindsay Wagner as The Bionic Woman when they see her outside at someplace and they ask her for an autograph and she says to them, "Sure." Wow, so glad for them. She is 70 years old now and she is still alive.
OH what a bad man to give huge problems to the surviving wife. Oh, what a callous mistress and a fool. The married man wasn't serious with her legally. I pity the scorned wife. Anyway, all of them are good actors. I love their acting.
Wife in this movie loved her husband more than she loved herself. He cheats, confesses out of guilt she forgives. Then he cheats a 2nd, 3rd time and confesses again. After that, she doesn't want him to continue to confess. Apparently, he had numerous affairs. Why would he leave his wife who he loves when he can have all the affairs he can get. Now she's hurt because he had a long term affair, fathered a son. As for the mistress, she isn't bright at all. Come on, 7 years later and he still hasn't left his wife for her. Why would he when he can play house with 2 women. Geez.
My point exactly, it's that old saying: WHY BUY THE COW, WHEN THE MILK IS FOR FREE. He's having his cake & eating it too. No need 2 purchase a new cow 4 an old one when he can just keep them both and still reap the benefits
Because she was much younger when they met and he was an older man. She may have not had the self worth at that younger age. Plus he showered her with financial stability when she was a struggling artist and commercial model. He represented what she wanted from a man and her future so she settled in hopes that he would someday be all hers and no longer had to live a secret. I blame him before I blame her .he was older and should have been wiser. She was young inexperienced corruptible and age has alot to do with the decisions we make ..he was a married man and should have never put that ice pack on her neck......good movie though...
So glad I came across this film, absorbing, intelligent and sincere. I loved the performances from all the cast, particularly Wagner, but Woodward and Langenkemp were wonderful too. A film worth repeated viewings from time to time. 😊👍
SPOILER ALERT This is one of the most poignant, sad and touching films I have ever seen. Contrary to some of the comments below, I don't feel the mistress was dumb; she truly believed that when the daughter was grown, he would leave his wife and marry her. Regarding the wife, she chose to turn away from the truth, as many people do; that is their own private business and I wouldn't judge. The daughter had a beautiful character in the way she cared for her little brother. The husband was a narcissist who didn't care who he hurt. It would have been more considerate had he made a clean break with his wife and married the other woman. Holding onto both of them simultaneously was selfish and cruel. I think they purposely made the wife look frumpy and old so the audience would understand (not sympathize) but understand that he sought the arms of a young and beautiful lover. However in the end, I feel that the three women were redeemed. As stated, it had a poignant, sad but touching ending. The aura of it is still with me
@@gypsyblack5994 She was in fact 4 years younger than him. They let her greys grow out, and dyed his hair. He was almost 60 in this movie, Joanne Woodward was 54, and Lindsay Wagner was only 35.
This was a Great Movie! They don't make them like this anymore! All the Emotions of the Situation, right out there! Then the working thru of what's been handed to you! Rightness & Noblesse of Character at it's finest! Very thought provoking! People don't work things out like that anymore, bc alot of ppl have no True Character, there's a lot of Selfish & Shallow Ppl out there, today!
This movie romanticizes being a mistress and makes it look so attractive because she would be taken care of by a man, a rich man. Even if there is love, it does not justify the disruption of the marriage and how it marginalizes the other woman (legal wife).
If it's about to happen and you think about how you'd like to look in the mirror and like who you see, you will make the right decision. What right would I have had to be with another lady's husband, even if he wanted me, which he did. What I felt for him would have turned to disrespect very quickly. So why jump through all those hoops and bring potential devastation to many.
I thought that too, the wife and daughter were way too generous at the end. I thought that because the poor kid got dragged into this because of his parents bad decisions he should not have to suffer by throwing them out of the beach house straight away so I figured giving the mistress a year of free rent and bills giving her enough time to figure something out should be more than fair all in all. Not giving them a ton of money . It felt like the message from the movie wasn't just to potential mistresses but to all those involved saying that this type of behavior is okay even though it hurts and traumatizes everyone . Not okay .
@@minavane5533 thank you. I am over here trying not to hit something because I am so angry because they just completely justified the whole thing. All of this is absolutely OK to do. And it makes me absolutely furious. She didn’t apologize for what she did, she showed up at her lovers funeral and got into a fight with the wife in the bathroom, she obviously knows about the daughter and the wife which when she started telling all of their business after what he told her it made me feel violated for them because now they don’t even have any private secrets to share with him on their own, and obviously the son is going to find out about it when he’s older.I’m sorry. I never realized how beautiful Lindsay Wagner was as a young woman, and I especially like how she looks now - growing older gracefully and naturally. Thanks for uploading this movie.
Yes, she's always been beautiful! So many of these 70s and 80s actresses were so much more beautiful than the ones today. The male actors too! Back then, they looked like men!
I think it's the rather heavy, glossy make up in this particular movie, it really made her look different. She didn't look like this in other movies, I didn't even recognize her at first.
I had that experience. My husband had an affair with my sister. It takes a LONG time to effectively deal with that kind of pain. He had 6 wives & 5 children. He hurt all of us horribly. He died at 60 & it was a true blessing when he did.
Opening house scene looks very much like Shirley MacLaine's home in Malibu she filmed in 1986 Out on a Limb ....the film reminds me of an earlier film with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, filmed near Carmel, The Sandpiper...early 1960s...we lived just south of Big Sur and recognized the PCH.....
Its not just adultery but the dishonesty in marriage is a killer. Why would the LOL "Partner" of a married person not realize that if the cheater did so to his spouse, they would do it again.

Two comments about the youngest characters, Beth (Heather Langenkamp) and Eric (R.J. Williams): When Beth is confronting her angry mom about cutting off the support to the mistress and the boy, exasperated with her mom AND feeling a bond and affection with her new found half-brother, she says, "That's okay, Mom. I'll take care of Eric out of my own inheritance and it won't cost you anything." Such a unselfish, loving gesture. . . . Eric describes his dad's death as "he just rolled over and died, just like my turtle who roller over and died." The preceding is paraphrased.A surprising, matter-of-fact way of characterizing death.
Sit together and pray... As if God would be listening to her if she had not humbled herself, repented, and turned away from her wicked ways 🤦 With as many gold digging harlots around, sometimes wonder if there are any faithful men left... To not trust anyone, is a lesson one sadly eventually learns the hard way.

I can’t believe the mistress went to the funeral. That was so wrong to take the chance that his wife - having already known who she was - would see her on such a painful day. And such a confusing time where you are grieving someone you love and maybe even hate at the same time. And knowing his daughter would be there.
Listening to the mistress make me sick she's really talking about morals ,my opinion is she has no morals are values shame on her and feel sorry for that boy.
When the side chick said they are all in pain, that may be true but she is the source of the pain. Because of her and Richard her son has to suffer. The wife and the daughter is suffering from a righteous prospective and the side chic and the son is suffering from unrighteous decisions.

What a wonderful daughter he had wanting to share with her little brother even when she knew he was her dad’s illegitimate son. Then the wife does something so unselfish and kind as well, what a class act by both of them.
Richard was the selfish dishonest one.
Yes he was; wanted his cake and eat it too.
and they live happily ever after - today become common practice.
I love Joanne Woodward. One of my faves.
Tasteless creepy guy: buys the artwork of his girlfriend and brings it home to his wife! 😂😳
One of my FAVORITE lifetime movies!!! ♥️

I believe you can truly know a person! ... I could time to the minute when my husband was due home! ... He might have been 10 mins late if he had to fill up with petrol! ... He is now retired and we have been together 47 years! ... We are together all the time! ... I think it is wrong of you to say 'You can never truly know a person'! ... Some of us are lucky! ... We were Childhood Sweethearts and still love one another tremendously! ... Maybe we are just lucky, but it proves that true love still exists! ... I am saying this because I want to encourage other people that read your comment that true love can prevail! x

This movie is the story of my past life. I sympathize with the wife because I know exactly what she went through. You feel betrayed and you don't know if you should cry or curse him out. It's a lot of mix emotions going on. I took off my wedding ring soon after I burried him because I felt like he didn't love me.

That hurt never gone away
1st time I'm seeing this movie!! And it's a good one!
Joan Woodward, the great and beautiful actress. Thanks for uploading!
One of my favorite movies.... thank you for posting it. :)
Very interesting movie! Totally kept me watching. Lindsay Wagner and Joanna Woodward were excellent. Loved it.
She doesn't have big screen appeal
Geez.
Absolutely!
One question that mistress should ask herself - if he wouldn't marry her it's because he loved himself more than anyone else - the bum!
Ms. S Great observation!
The husband and wife look about the same age. Joan Woodward, who plays the role of the wife, I believe, looks lovely.
My point exactly, it's that old saying: WHY BUY THE COW, WHEN THE MILK IS FOR FREE.
He's having his cake & eating it too. No need 2 purchase a new cow 4 an old one when he can just keep them both and still reap the benefits
The white haired guy in the art gallery was the music teacher in Fame x
If you knew this man was married, why stay and play 2nd wife, and have his kid too..
Craaaaaaazzzzzzzyyyyyyy!!!!
That’s why men get away this shit i blame the woman
Because she was much younger when they met and he was an older man. She may have not had the self worth at that younger age. Plus he showered her with financial stability when she was a struggling artist and commercial model. He represented what she wanted from a man and her future so she settled in hopes that he would someday be all hers and no longer had to live a secret. I blame him before I blame her .he was older and should have been wiser. She was young inexperienced corruptible and age has alot to do with the decisions we make ..he was a married man and should have never put that ice pack on her neck......good movie though...
Loneliness???? 😢

SPOILER ALERT
This is one of the most poignant, sad and touching films I have ever seen. The aura of it is still with me
The wife "frumpy and old" looking! I always thought she WAS old!😂
@@gypsyblack5994 She was in fact 4 years younger than him.
Diane Wong
THANK YOU! 100% AGREE!🤗
What's wrong with a woman that cheats? She must not want her own man.
I’m venting. Lol. Maybe I shouldn’t be watching these movies. Just makes me sick

@gypsyblack5994 - I agree!
I think it's the rather heavy, glossy make up in this particular movie, it really made her look different. She didn't look like this in other movies, I didn't even recognize her at first.
It's bliss being single 😌 than knowing your whole marriage was a lie
I had that experience. My husband had an affair with my sister. It takes a LONG time to effectively deal with that kind of pain. He had 6 wives & 5 children. He hurt all of us horribly. He died at 60 & it was a true blessing when he did.

Real love is about making sacrifices, and remaining faithful to one another; this despite anything that might happen; which is why marriage is a 'until death parts' Covenant, with God as the third party in the relationship; this also towards protection and security of children born from the union.
The lawyer narrated the Smuckers commercials back in the 70s, among other things. Love his voice!
Please, do not glamorize the adultery and destroying of a wife and his daughter. You knew he was married with a child. No excuses , simple as it is .
WoW... actors and actresses looked like real people back then. There were no botox and deformed faces. Nowadays, even in WW2 movies, actors and actresses appear as if they had just walked out of a hair salon or some facial/ cosmetic place. Also, acting was so much better than the garbage we see today

British Miller it annoys me that the woman gets into trouble for breaking up the home-half the time, they are just as deceived & don’t know....but more to the point-wasn’t the home-wrecker more the husbands fault??? He wrecked his OWN HOME & His Own Marriage-he made choices & these are HIS Consequences.....

That's creepy .. I wrote a long comment...it was there then deleted.
As humans we have a right to choose whats wright and what is wrong
I did go back in time when I saw this film because I remembered Billy Joels lyrics: HONESTY( Is such a lonely word)🤧
As if God would be listening to her if she had not
humbled herself, repented, and turned away from her wicked ways 🤦
With as many gold digging harlots around, sometimes wonder if there are any faithful men left... To not trust anyone, is a lesson one sadly eventually learns the hard way.

Wow this movie is surprising me with how good it is. Right now Im watching the scene at 52min mark, with Nina's friend (favorite character) This character has such an interesting backstory, which so far just has been hinted at vaguely, but I love that.. As far as the rest of the story and characters ..Love those too :)
The friend of Nina was in "Stargate".
Yes, Lindsey Wagner is good in this, and very pretty. Vivica Lindfors was memorable in “The King Of Kings”, playing Herod’s wife. ❤
I can’t believe the mistress went to the funeral. That was so wrong to take the chance that his wife - having already known who she was - would see her on such a painful day. And such a confusing time where you are grieving someone you love and maybe even hate at the same time. And knowing his daughter would be there.
Otherwise this film would not have happened. The script was written this way, to draw you into the story, so you forget it's a fictional film.😊
It's a beautiful ending. Perfection is a great and bright side of man. Especially when you have the opportunity❤️
HUGE Lindsay Wagner fan!!!!
