Man El Caminos have been growing on me a lot again lately. I was looking at a few on Craigslist recently but people were asking way too much for the condition. I will own an El camino sooner or later....hopefully sooner.
Wow that's 1 hell of a transformation compared to your last video of this truck ! I remember this 1 and it was a nice truck its ashame it was in the junk yard to begin with !
I had a 1973 with a 400 in it. SOLD IT 200 DOLLARS. AND WAS GLAD TO GET RID OF IT. THE DAY YOU CAN RACE ANY EL C.AND KEEP IT ON THE FLOOR. AND NOT BLOW UP. MAYBE I WOULD THINK ABOUT IT. NOT. YOU CAN NOT HIT THE REVLIMITER WITH ANY CHEVY 92 302 C6 STIFF GEAR. OOPS HIT REVERSE AT 50. DID NOT CRASH. AND TRUCK JUST GOT A WATER PUMP. WITCH I DOVE FOR 2 WEEKS WITH IT LEAKING. PEOPLE SAY TRUCK STEAMING.I KNOW. COME BACK OUT OF WHERE I WAS. FIRE THAT FORD UP. DRIVE TO WHERE I WAS GOING. BY THE TIME I GOT 2 GALLONS OF WATER IN THE MOTOR. DRIVE UP GET A HALF YARD OF DIRT. DROVE BACK UNLOADED IT. 2 WEEKS I RUN THAT TRUCK HARD. WATER PUMP LEAKING. DO THAT WITH THAT EL CAM. IT WOULD BLOW SKI HIGH.
You Know Im Right. Check The Facts Out. No Nos. No Turbo. Fastest 427 4 speed 2 4 Barbells 612 gear. Pump gas. Many have Tried. And Failed. 64 thunderbolt. Before that Ray Ran a 67 Blue. GM can't build nothing to turn a 612 gear.
I hope you took that tach cluster, that should be an easy flip for decent profit. I'm thinking seats, console, shifter, column, grille, header and headlight trim, tailgate, maybe the upper bed trim pieces. Wheels, too. Oh and the rear bumper may be a good flip too.
I took the seats, center console and steering column. The seats will go in my Cutlass. The steering column for my Monte and I plan on selling the center console. I left the gauges. Thought they'd be gone but they were still there when I saw the car yesterday. The front end and the tailgate were gone
@@ClassicRideSociety usually a factory tach cluster this era is super desirable. Getting so even like a regular Suburban cluster from a 90-91 with the electronic speedo is $200 online. I just missed buying one at a flea market shop here right before the shutdowns and kicked myself for it.
Whoa Nelley, El Camino means "The Road" in Spanish, this one is off the road and now it's a toad. There were 40,932 El Caminos made in 1980, doesn't say how many were SS models though. Wrong wheels for an '80 SS, the right ones are these: www.gearheadwiki.com/images/6/68/1980_Chevrolet_El_Camino_Brochure-02.jpg We got the VIN, we win: 1 for Chevrolet, W for Malibu Classic/El Camino, 80 for pickup/delivery body style, H for 305 V8 with four barrel, aka RPO "LG4", A for 1980 model year, R for Arlington, TX assembly and the rest is the production sequence. We got the tag, we can brag: 80 for 1980 model year, 1AW80 for Chevrolet El Camino, 09D for fourth week of September 1979 production, R for Arlington, TX assembly, 19U and 19L for Black upper and lower exterior paint, 15M should be that SS stripe code for silver, A51 is bucket seats, possible 19V for black vinyl bucket seat interior. L is lacquer paint. Appears to be a real SS and this one could be saved with some effort and I think it's still worth it. It's not time to quit, no that's not it. Burn baby burn, it got a bad turn. Whoa Nelley, it got hot, and the glass and paint turned to snot. My sister's neighbor just lost her barn with an 80s Mercedes convertible in there and also lost two cars in the driveway, including a three week old GMC Acadia. All towed away. No cause of the fire, perhaps the MB was running hot and something went up. My sister was going to bed and saw the flames and called 911. No pets or family hurt, but the barn is historic and has to be rebuilt that way. Sad. It's the flame that's to blame. We got fire, the situation got dire. Please don't get squished, I'm gonna be pissed.

This body is so much better then the 78 Ive been working on for a friend! So sad! His has a rebuilt 305 and factory 4 speed with limited slip. But the body and bed is rough! Too bad im in NY
I'm in NY too man these are really hard to find. They used to get crushed all day now a clean straight set of doors will set you back at least a grand.
Car definitely didn't deserve to be scrapped. They are getting rare. Especially 1980 or earlier. A lot of people don't like them tho. Idk why. I think they are awesome.
It could have had the kind of rare 262 small block which was an absolutely pathetic engine. Even if u got "lucky" and got the 305, it's still a turd lol.but if u put in a nice 350 it will make a huge difference especially if u can build a mild vortec headed 350.
Wouldn't Take Much To Get That Baby Back On The Road, Where She Deserves To Be!! Im Already Picturing Her Jet Black With The Aero SS Front Bumper!! What A Shame!!
Sad end to that 1980 El Camino Super Sport. Probably title issues like so many savagable vehicles. Was a shame that it probably met the crusher after being parted out like that Ford. They were sharp back in the day!
Did the super sport option get you any performance extras in 1980? I'm sure it's got a gutless 305 but did they do anything to the suspension or you get a higher rear axle ratio?
@@ls6-ss413 well you would have had it done a ton of work to a 305 to get the car to run low 12s. 305 is a horrible engine because the bore is so small it shrouds the valves. that's why it's usually not even worth the money to add the parts to it. you're better off getting a 350 and adding the parts in there cuz Chevy 350 is easy to find. Had it been mine and know that if any bondo was in it, it sure never boiled out, fairly good body so a skin on the drivers side or about two days in a body shop, a week in a back yard and it would of been the pride of the fleet.
