A number of people have commented that this was 2002, the year Lonnie sadly died. But in fact it was 15th October 2001 and they performed in Leamington Spa that evening. It was on tour the following year that Lonnie had his fatal heart attack. I too watched the 2019 episode of The Voice UK, when Peter did a duet with Tom Jones. It was as will.i.am said a magical moment. Lonnie Donegan pure genius.

A couple of days ago I didn't even know this people , I was missing a lot . Great musicians and great history behind them and a ton of great music ! ! ! ! ! Sorry Lonnie has passed .
Watching the voice, and lonnie's son Peter was on Tom Jones turned round and then Peter announced he was lonnie's son, then he went on and did a duet with sir Tom and they did a song that Lonnie wrote for sir Tom, I'm never going to fall in love again, fantastic moment good luck to Peter, his mum was there and in tears.
On his last tour, Lonnie said that Tom was at his home, looking through his records, played the records and asked if it would be OK to record it. That was at the Weymouth concert he said it.
What a lovely lovely man,so down to earth. I just cannot stop watching the duet on The Voice, with Peter and Sir Tom Jones,it never fails to hit my heart and you can see the love and pride his has for his father. Great performance of Father & son 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 You can tell his Irish roots when he pronounced Rory Gallagher’s name the correct way,the SILENT “g”! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙏🏻🕯
Lonnie was phenomenal! That surprised me with just a guitar , a washboard and harmonica...what an amazing sound! and he always gave 110% right to the end...that is professionalism!
Peter, I’ve only been introduced to your dads music for about 4 years or so now, what a legend he was!, sorry for your loss 19 years on… you were great on the harmonica too, great musician 👍🏻
Went to see Van Morrison in the late 90’s and had no idea that Lonnie was supporting him. It was a happy surprise. You can tell there was great respect from Van because he came out and duetted with him on a few numbers. I’m glad I can say I saw this legend before he joined the great band in the sky.
Although he's now deceased I've discovered his songs on TH-cam and though he was a bit before my time (it's December 2022. I'm 61 now) I've become a fan of his music as he has lots of great song. I don't remember his songs being played on my radio I had as a teenager on the rock stations I listened to.
I am 61 this year and he wasn't before my time. My boyfriend and I went to see him at the Hertford castle about 1980, me in a 1950's dress, my boyfriend in a drape, we were and are Teds.. I think we were the only young people there. Lonnie Donagan put his arms round me ,lifted me a bit and said ,int she lovely. We saw him a lot after that anywhere we could get to. We went to the Lonnie Donagan story with Peter and Anthony. When it got to the end I said my eyes are leaking and my boyfriend said me too. He was a one off.
I'm here watching you again so amazed with your duet to Sir Tom Jones. The magical moment all filled my home with so much emotions flowing. God bless and keep singing Peter Donegan. I'm a fan from the Philippines.

Lonnie hadn't been a well man for a long time , he had a few heart attacks and had a bypass while working in the USA. I saw him in concert in the 50's and the 80's.
Just discovered the performance on The Voice where Tom Jones and you performed the song your dad wrote for him. Amazing moment. From there I went exploring TH-cam and found myself here. Love the Woody Guthrie song - being a lifelong resident of the state of Washington and the son of a musician who has passed. How proud you must be to have so many amazing memories of your father.

I have 4 sons and have had the joy of harmonizing with Number 2 and it is a memory that will sustain me for eternity...what a joy it was and must have been too for Peter & Lonnie Donnegan. So much talent in one family.
I saw Lonnie on his final tour at Weymouth. He was a musical hero of mine and I took a friend with me who didn't want to go, but I convinced him to go. I said if he didn't enjoy it, I''d pay him back for his ticket. He loved the show. I got to meet Lonnie after the show.It was a highlight for me to have a photo taken with him. Lovely to see Lonnie and Peter together, first time i have seen this, i hope he does as well as his father, what a great man he was...i was a young girl about 8yrs old when i first saw Lonnie perform with his skittle group... what memories of good old days. RIP
Thank you for posting Peter. I lived in Funky Town for a while and did a few shows at the Salon Varietes Theatre. One night I got a message backstage to say your dad had invited me for a drink in the bar. We chatted for a while and he was very complimentary about my performance. But I had made prior arrangements and had to cut our meeting short. Very sad to hear of his passing, he was a lovely man and it was a great honour to meet him.
Oh my , how great was Lonnie a wonderful artist who was mega talented. Always bringing excellent music and songs to so many.Just very well so humble and amiable. What a wonderful man and his son so very nice innovative and also talented.Oh wow how good is Peter on harmonica and other guy so good.Amazing.Is that instrument a wash board.xx
1960 formed my first skiffle band thanks to Lonnie. 1961 quit skiffle band but still loved Lonnie. Why? I had no talent. Lonnie Donegan never failed to impress us with his performance and could always make us laugh. Gene pool material.
@@peterdoneganmusic Apart from your own superior musicianship I would love to see a doc on how your dad influenced British culture. For indeed, Lonnie left a bit of Donegan in all of us. Putting on the smile.
And that 14 second note hold at 12:57 - not many 70+ year olds I know of that can do that at full pelt these days ;) Respects to the late Lonnie Donegan, one of my late dad's all-time favourite performers and the inspiration of legends, you will be missed and remembered with fondness and affection ;)
As a kid, I loved your Dad's songs and thought he was a gorgeous, fantastic artist. His light-hearted songs made my heart sing, in a pretty dreary world.. Discovering you recently, I think you're even gorgeouser (Is that a real word?) in a deep, soulful way. I can see where your talent comes from and I love the way you're taking that even further..
Pardon the language, F* brilliant! The music was before my time (1970) & I appreciate. Reminds me of Kim, with her father. I love 50s/60s music.NEVER forgotten!
Loved listening to him in the mid fifties particularly when visiting relatives in Crouch End when I was based at North Weald RAF Station. He was a fantastic musician and full of fun. It was a great era for his very popular brand of music. So sad that he passed away soon after this interview.
Look how young and cute you are here Peter 😉 You are still just as cute. I love your voice and I fell in love with the song your Dad wrote. I absolutely got chills watching you and Sir Tom singing it. 😍 I probably watch it a few times a week 🙂🙂 Thank you for sharing this video 🙂
Nice to see you both ...father and son I really enjoy to see you together and also ur performing music .... so happy ur father Pete 💖 #Petedonegan #Lonniedonegang #TH-cam
This would have made a great track for these three as a recording. . . so gutsy. Lonnie still having a fantastic strong voice, Peter with his harmony and great bluesy harmonica and the washboard completing the sound reminiscent of Lonnie's old skiffle days. That was well done.
my dad Peter was a professional guitar player with macaris variety band just after the war, alas he died when i was a two year old but the apple didn't fall far from the tree and me and me brother both love guitar playing and songwriting
@@peterdoneganmusic Peter, that was such a magic moment in time with Tom Jones. I did not know that Lonnie Donegan had written "Never Fall in Love Again." Try to read it like the star worse/track quote (dont know really) : Dude i love your father. he's awesome person and thanks to the show i know the face and the person - not just the name. F awesome guy god bless all your family.
TH-cam recommended Peter Donegan audition. The duet with Tom Jones was a fabulous tribute to Lonnie, who I'm a bit too young to know. I decided to go down this rabbit hole. The first Lonnie Donegan song TH-cam recommended was this. In a weird twist of fate this UK fellow is singing an old American folk song about the Grand Coulee Dam...which is about 300km from me.
Ha ha. Well dad’s career was making UK hits out of Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly hits. The most important being Rock Island Line which not only reached #8 in the US but changed the British Music Industry forever, inspiring every British Invasion band to pick up a guitar, including The Beatles to Led Zeppelin, Van Morrison and even Jack White from the White Stripes. He introduced Americana Music into Britain.
An absolute genius! Skiffle's as fresh now as it was 60 years ago, I could listen to Grand Coolee Dam all day, and as a contrast in tempo you have to hear his Seven Golden Daffodils...

Impressed with Peter Donegans contribution.
Another fantastic performance from Lonnie and Peter.
Beautiful
This was wonderful to watch !
Lovely to see Lonnie and Peter together, first time i have seen this, i hope he does as well as his father, what a great man he was...i was a young girl about 8yrs old when i first saw Lonnie perform with his skittle group... what memories of good old days. RIP
WOW incredible, poor Lonnie looked on the way out on the sofa but when he starts singing he's like a teenager!!!! What a man!!!
Beautiful harmonies, only family can sound like this...
Such great shoes Peter has filled.
Such a brilliant performance of father & son😍😘
Oh my , how great was Lonnie a wonderful artist who was mega talented. Always bringing excellent music and songs to so many.Just very well so humble and amiable. What a wonderful man and his son so very nice innovative and also talented.Oh wow how good is Peter on harmonica and other guy so good.Amazing.Is that instrument a wash board.xx
I love country music, you're on the right track. Good luck on the Voice!
I am embarrassed I never knew of him. What a talent
Heck the memories have come flooding back Peter was good back then as well
1960 formed my first skiffle band thanks to Lonnie. 1961 quit skiffle band but still loved Lonnie. Why? I had no talent. Lonnie Donegan never failed to impress us with his performance and could always make us laugh. Gene pool material.
Great memories. Love to hear stories like that. Glad dad put a smile on your face. He’d have been very happy to hear that.
Peter your such a beautiful son for Lonnie He must have been incredible proud of you SUCH ALOT OF BETWEEN YOU TWO XXX
Amazing song your dad was a legend loved your duo with sir Tom Jones which was amazing .
Legend! He changed the face of music in Britain. His son is talented too!
Avril S he sure did.

doris_artvideografie schaeffer thank you 🙏
Pete Donegan 🎶 💖😁🙏🏻
This would have made a great track for these three as a recording. . . so gutsy. Lonnie still having a fantastic strong voice, Peter with his harmony and great bluesy harmonica and the washboard completing the sound reminiscent of Lonnie's old skiffle days. That was well done.
my dad Peter was a professional guitar player with macaris variety band just after the war, alas he died when i was a two year old but the apple didn't fall far from the tree and me and me brother both love guitar playing and songwriting
Great! Music is something that we all love and it’s great when it gets passed down.
@@peterdoneganmusic Peter, that was such a magic moment in time with Tom Jones. I did not know that Lonnie Donegan had written "Never Fall in Love Again." I first heard your dad when I was a child and I heard "Rock Island Line". My dad had the 45 and I loved it! So wonderful to find your dad on TH-cam now. He is one of my earliest memories. All of God's grace and blessings to you and your career!

It's all been said; but not by me. He cheered us all up when there wasn't much joy. Showed us the way, inspired everybody whether musical or not. Thankyou Lonnie RIPGood luck Peter
The Voice gets me here, and yeah there’s Peter

Love this video Peter I remember meeting you and your Dad in the Shanghai Restaurant in Spain which was owned by my Friend Jimmy.
Big performance.
A truly heartwarming and energetic performance.
one of my hero's,we all did a bit of skiffle playing in the day, will never forget Lonnie and Peter you rock
The beatles first music played skiffle at first. lonnie was an idol of theirs.
What a great singer and entertainer Lonnie was good memories. 👍👍
I know someone who saw Donegan's son's show and she told me it was GREAT value
Too bloody right. What a terrific night out that was.
Lonnie left everything on the stage after every concert I saw him perform in, a real tour de force...
Found this after watching the Son and Tom Jones. Wish I had found him sooner when he was alive and still performing. What a treat.
a legend of pop music
God help you Peter like Father like son dreams comes true
Wow...Loved this...Xx
Better then ever!!!!
Long live Lonnie...and the Peter.
That was great! Who's that young whipper snapper there, ha! 👏👏👏
Absolutely great
Incredible voice,cw here after the blind audition @Asawang Filipina
awesome ,thanks Peter x
Like.... your Dad is really entertaining. Semoga karir Peter sama seperti ayahnya👌👍
Thank you!
Treasured moments. Not long before he died during his tour.
