If I can't find something to laugh at every day and to learn, I'm dead.
No intelligent person should agree with someone 100% of the time, so even when I don't like or agree with what he says, I respect him because he is not about following a "party line" of the Left or the Right and calls out the BS of both when he sees fit. Its about thinking for yourself, a rare commodity these days.
I don't care what jokes his guys wrote for him, I just want Bill to stop touching his fly all the time, it's embarrassing.
Maher still remains partisan to Democrats as he confirmed saying the GOP alarms him. Although he’s experienced an epiphany in 2020 due to the woke mob actions, Bill will always favor the left vs being “alarmed” by them too.

I can list the reasons why I don't like Maher. I watch him because he can say what the right is thinking regardless if what they think is true in a few sentences. I don't want to watch 20 hours of fox news a week to figure that out on my own. He also has a bunch of often older guests that also have opinions i disagree with, but it gets me out of my bubble without it becoming something I need to spend several hours a week on.

However the thing that keeps him in the “good” graces (for now) is that he has some/many interesting guests on his shows and gets the conversation into places you can’t always get with many comedy and/or opinionated and/or straight news programming!!!

Bill doesn't have a super power, he just meets the barest minimum threshold IQ for being able to participate in human conversation. It's easy to agree with someone on SOMETHING if they're playing both sides. The main problem with Maher is that he doesn't respect young people. I find it hilarious that his criticism of the left is that they complain too much, essentially, while the right is 'alarming' and straight up criminal. I've never been a big fan of Maher, but I agree he speaks for the "vast middle." The reason I know is because I agree with him about half the time. He claims to be liberal, but he's more moderate than he would admit. We need more voices like his, and we need far more people who are balanced enough to see both sides of issues as he does. The polarization of the country is horrible and has led to Trump and Biden....we can do better.

I'm not tribal . My positions on issues guide me . If republicans suddenly believed in climate change, a woman's right to choose, sensible gun laws etc...I'd be open to voting for them. But they will never change on these issues because that is what their party is based on now. And the irony is many of them don't even care about abortion , many of them believe in climate change and want sensible gun laws but they won't say it cause they are afraid of someone primarying them

When Maher got cancelled all those years ago, I defended his right to expression even though I disagreed with what he said. But for him to say, "Don't be tribal" is beyond ironic. He pandered to one side almost without exception.
The idea that one's entire catalogue of opinions could independently fall in line with a political party is ridiculous. Maher is liberal but not in a goose-stepping kind of way.

I'm pretty conservative but believe Bill is one of the only voices of sanity left in the political media. His quote that I repeat regularly continues to be true today - "If you do goofy s***, regardless of what side you're on, I'm going to make fun of you". I’ll take Jon Stewart over Maher any day of the week. Stewart recently called out so-called comedians complaining about “woke” supposedly ruining comedy, and the dig was directly for Bill.
No matter who the “dig” was directed at, it was convincing and humorous only for those in the bubble to the Left. I cannot believe Stewart participated in that recent documentary on George Carlin. Shortly before his death, Carlin commented on the rise of woke illiberalism: “I saw it coming from the Right, but I never saw it coming from the Left.” Carlin would be ashamed of the “speech is violence” ethos on college campuses and selective irony-impairment of comedians-turned-ideological-panderers like Jon Stewart, John Oliver, etc.

I can't help but to be a little cynical about politics these days, (really, who isn't?) but I've been trying to learn about it and have learned a lot (adds to my cynicism). I ask the same question: have I changed or has the country changed. I find both sides have gone off the deep end into extremes and lazy critical thinking.
Bill Maher complained that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert promoted a "false sense of equivalency between the left and right" because their "Rally to Restore Sanity" occasionally mocked ONE liberal commentor (Keith Olbermann) amidst all the conservatives they mocked. In other words, Maher thought those two were too balanced and too friendly to conservatives.
I am NOT interested in what Bill Maher has to say.
Ironic because nowadays it seems like Maher is the one who wants to "restore sanity" whilst Stewart has gone off the deep end.
Whether agree or disagree, Maher's unique in his thoughts/opinions. And, yes, he's hilarious on a regular basis.

Hilarious? Is this based on the forced laughter from the studio audience? Maher has gotten increasingly bitter and when the material doesn't land he predictably blames it on the audience.

I wish there were a right wing version hosted by a conservative who calls out his own party as much as the other party but as far as I know, nothing like it exists.

His show is just a series of him watching clips and then reacting to them like they're the most shocking thing on the planet and shouting at the camera for 3mins. I used to watch his show religiously and after a while I saw just how lazy it is.

Bill Maher isn't my favorite person by any means but he doesn't spend as much time bashing Trump or conservatives like he did in the past.
He's been roasting the left for a while now, but that doesn't fit the orange man bad narrative the msm wants people to believe. He roasted the left on December 13 and he's been doing it more and more especially since the protests.
