STORRS, Conn. (AP) - In what was billed as a matchup between two of the best forwards in the country, Aaliyah Edwards made the case Monday that she deserves consideration as an All-American.
The 6-foot-3 junior had 23 points and 10 rebounds, leading No. 5 UConn to its 11th straight win, a 94-51 rout of DePaul and its star, Aneesah Morrow.
Lou Lopez Senechal scored 20 points and Dorka Juhasz had 19 for the Huskies (18-2, 11-0 Big East), who remained undefeated in conference play. Aubrey Griffin registered her fourth double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
"I think that these matchups, we're going to see more of them with different players down the road, so it was a good test of us as a team," Edwards said.
Edwards had 15 points in the first half and UConn led by 17 at halftime. The Huskies used a 19-0 run in the third quarter to put away the game.
Edwards made 10 of her 13 shots. She also had four assists, a steal and a blocked shot.
"There isn't an aspect of the game where she isn't playing at an All-American level," coach Geno Auriemma said. "If anybody needed any proving, tonight was certainly indicative of that."
The Huskies outscored DePaul 58-18 in the paint and outrebounded the Blue Demons 59-32.
Morrow led the Blue Demons with 20 points and 12 rebounds. It was her 17th double-double this season and eighth in a row.
"She's out there battling at 5-11, 6-foot against some really, really strong interior players," DePaul coach Doug Bruno said. "So, I'm not exactly sure, what did she get out of playing this level of competition? I think it's always great to see the highest level of competition."
DePaul (11-10, 4-6) has lost three in a row and six of its last seven.
The game was supposed to be played on Jan. 8, but had to be postponed after injuries left UConn with only six healthy scholarship players, one under the number required by the Big East.
The Huskies had eight available players Monday. Ayanna Patterson, who missed four games after suffering a concussion at Xavier on Jan. 5, returned in the third quarter. She played 13 minutes and scored six points.

Lou Lopez-Senechal is my favorite on that team! All around a great player needed this year for UCONN , but theyre all good!

Two things stood out for me. First, the starting five, who have to play well every single game, are keeping up their consistency. Second, all the available players who came off the bench are both giving productive minutes and showing marked improvement over the last two months.

Thanks for your observation. I have been saying all along when UCONN's lead exceeds twenty (20) points, Mr. Auriemma is to bring in the bench players with one starter. This tactical strategy enables the bench players to improve their skills while playing against the starters on the opposite team. Ayanna Patterson played very well for the few minutes she was on the court.
Imagine if Fudd and Bueckers were healthy this years, which female basketball team will beat them especially with the way Aliyah , Dorka , Muelh,Griffin and Lopez have been playing ?
      The team would be fantastic.

As an old college womens coach, Dorka's layup over murrow and others with three minutes left in first half broke DePaul. Geno, with his two 'bigs' playing so well, might have the best low post power in the country. Stay healthy ladies. All the best. Grand to see the game being played more like an art form than a dark alley rumble.

...I watched the clip several times and it appears Morrow intentionally tripped Lou. Lou is very level headed so her gripe was legit.

No big deal. Things happen in basketball, especially when players are falling on the ground. Sometimes you take exception , but you move on. Only people that play, or played the game, will know that. You're going to get a knee, an elbow, tripped, and so on and so on. I'm a UConn fan but if Lou wants to stand over a player that's on the ground, you get what you get. The players on the opposing team are not supposed to be polite. Like "Excuse Lou I know we were fighting over the ball, but I'm on the ground, so watch out for my legs."

@@richardwhatley6505 sportsmanship is a thing, you play basketball to win not to intentionally hurt people. You can be polite without hurting your team. Your comment is so stupid, basketball is a physical game but not to that extent. It’s always the unranked teams that physicality hurt teams they know they can’t beat. Lou could’ve been seriously injured the same way Paige was during the NCAA tournament in 22 when everyone was jumping on her. Lou was the best player, taking her down to win isn’t “just a game” it’s disrespectful and disgusting.

Uconn dominates in the Big East because it is lucky enough that the other teams in that division St. John, Villanova, Creighton, DePaul, Seton Hall, Marquette, Georgetown, Province Buttler, and Xavier are all weaker teams. But if Uconn will crossmatch against the better teams such as South Carolina, Standford, Ohio State, LSU, Notre Dame, Middle Tennesse, Maryland, Florida State, NC, Michigan, etc. then it will really see the big fight. In fact, when it crossmatched its previous games Uconn lost to Notre Dame by a big margin and Maryland as well. So, I guess Uconn's strength has still to be tested against stronger teams. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. In fact, Uconn had no antidote to the prolific guards Olivia Miles, Sonia Citron, and Dara Mabrey, and the strength underneath the board of Maddy Westbeld, Lauren Ebon, and Kaylee Watson ha ha ha ha.

Antidote? Crossmatching? Middle Tennessee, really. After reading through all your fluff, I'll say you're ND fan. When UConn lost to ND, they lost Azzi Fudd in the first quarter. When they lost to Maryland, UConn battled their way back to make it interesting in the 4th quarter, w/o Nika Muhl. Hard to adjust on the fly losing key players like that. UConn did have a hard time containing Olivia Miles. Juhasz did not play in those games either. Notre Dame has not all that impressive in ACC play either, considering whom they played so far.
