Back in 1995 , Male was "lower"/smaller and the airport was just a landing strip...! And yes, those days you could ask nicely and be in the cockpit ( no problem} and get the front view!! Those were the days... Greetings Zurifishi!

Fantastic. You land you do the passport bit you jump in a mini bus you drive to the top of the runway you cross the runway then drive down to the seaplane loading point you take off and the rest is pure pure heaven. Been lucky enough to go several times. Fan bloody tastic.👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧

It amazes me how the islands pop up from no where. In the middle of these beautiful waters.
Its simple. Make 1000 elephants poop for 1000 days inside a confined portion of an ocean. It becomes an island.

That's fascinating how you have a semi-high rise city pop up on a small island in the middle of the ocean. Looks like it is so vulnerable to a tsunami.
Um technically coastal cities are more vulnerable. The tsunamis would create disaster at shallow shelf than mid oceans

Last 2007., 'twas my 1st time to set foot in the island. It was such a horrible experience when all of sudden an earthquake woke me up. I felt so sad because I was not able to explore the island.
landed at male' airport twice now both times in a 777 Emirates plane. awesome landings. awesome holidays on our chosen island. going again feb 2020.
I remember making that landing. Unfortunately our luggage didn’t join us and ended up in Hamburg! Lovely islands though…..

War das erste mal 1980 auf den Malediven. Von oben sah der Airport aus, wie ein Stück Autobahn mitten im azurblauem Meer.
Touristisch gesehen waren die Malediven hauptsächlich von Sporttauchern besucht.
Das war auch mein Ziel.
Gewohnt haben wir im Nordmaleatoll, auf Goraidu, einer Insel, wo einheimische Boote gebaut wurden und Fischerfamilien lebten.
Circa 2 Stunden südlich von Male, der Hauptinsel mit dem Dooni entfernt. Ich erinnere mich noch genau daran, als ich Male betrat. Die Straßen waren reiner, weißer Korallensand, übersät mit tausenden kleinen Kaurimuscheln.
3 Monate gab es täglich Fisch, so gut wie kein Gemüse oder Obst, dennoch mag ich heute immer noch Fisch essen, lieber als Fleisch.
Täglich von morgens bis zum Sonnenuntergang waren wir im 🏝 Wasser und es war so unglaublich schön, wir kamen uns vor, wie in einem riesigen Aquarium, voll mit allen möglichen Fischen und Korallen.
Einmalig schönes Erlebnis.
Danach wieder zurück nach Thailand 🇹🇭, Koh Samui. 🌴 🌞 😎

Enjoy it while you can, I sit here in my deckchair in the middle of a green greenland sure in the knowledge that in 3 months the entire place will be under water - and in less than 10 years the entire world will be under water. Thank you AOC, Al and Greta for setting me straight.

In the year 2000 I visited Maldives. That time flight landed in a nearby island and took a speed boat to Male.
