    As a former aircraft mechanic that has overhauled numerous engines, I can say that you're doing a great job with the tools that you have. You should be very proud when that engine once again roars to life.

    A Yanmar 2GM is a fine engine and he is doing a very good job of it... Lovely that he can install a full kit including sleeve and new pistons and rings - it really will be a fresh motor again, hope the crank is good and the valves, guides and seats are good too... He is doing a methodical job and is being pretty respectful and careful of the process.

    If ever I need to rebuild a diesel motor, on a boat at anchor, in a off shore island, in a windy bay, with minimal tools and a barking dog in the background......you Billy are my man! Absolutely fantastic effort whether it works or not!

    Amazing! I can't believe you did that on a boat! You could have used a piece of wood to seat that crank, you know, hit the wood with the hammer. But easy to sit here and give you ideas. lol.

    Billy, you are an example of people that can do. Never be afraid to try something yourself. Hopefully, there were no parts left over. I use to take the dash off of a '69 Roadrunner. There were always parts left over when I put it back together. I just threw them in the glovebox until the next time I pulled it. Hard to do that with an engine. Guessing all those parts are important. :-) At least now it is easy to video all of the steps as you disassemble something. Good luck and happy sailing.

    • @Tulasendlesssummer
      @Tulasendlesssummer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I didn’t take the injector pump off and the timing is determined by the shims it is mounted on so didn’t have to do anything there. I just had to make sure I lined up the timing marks on the gear on the crank shaft and camshaft which was very straight forward and easy

    Doing a engine rebuild at sea is insane, however you have to do what you have to do to make it work. It’s awesome you are not afraid to accomplish such a big task. Rebuilding a engine is no joke when you have all the knowledge and tools to complete the project. You should feel proud of yourself.

    Billy, I give you a lot of credit for rebuilding your diesel on your boat. You are creative and have a “can-do” attitude. I rebuilt the engine in my first car, a Ford 351 Cleveland in my garage when I was 15 years old. This brought back lots of great memories of taking that engine apart piece by piece, cleaning it all up, new bearings and gaskets and putting it back together. I had a Chilton’s manual to guide me through it. Can’t wait to hear that sucker run! Good job so far dude!
