I was a child in the 60s. I remember my mom putting my hair up in curlers every Saturday night and making me sit under the hair dryer (a full-head cap, not a rigid dome), and then working with it Sunday morning before church to style it. It was always a rat's nest in the morning, and I had a tender scalp and hated the back-combing. But I really wanted the iconic flip to work, so I could look "cool" like the movie stars. Apparently I cried and squealed a lot during those hair-styling sessions, so when I was six, my mom took me to the hairdresser's and had her cut it into a (short!) Pixie. It was the most traumatic thing that had happened to me at that young age. I HATED it. I went home and stood on my head hoping it would make it grow out faster. And the back-combing didn't cease because it was short. Nooooo -- a Pixie had a very poufy top! To this day I can't stand to have very much volume on top of my head. (But I would totally do this hairstyle if I didn't think it would look weird on a mid-50s woman in 2019 ...)
Slight side pony with hair falling over the shoulder. Another authentic option is rats used to create the volume for women with fine hair. Super cute, reminds me of family photo albums!
This is so freaking cute !!!! I never realized how much teasing and hairspray was required with it . Oh my goodness..!!! My mother would do the beehive, she grew up in the 60’s .
I try to achieve that with my hair when I go out :-) Nice to see someone else doing it. I wanted to tell you that this makeup you did for this video is very flattering on you. It suits you, you might make it your regular makeup!
Lots of women just used a hair piece to get height. My mom had a couple and had a lady where she would drop it off and pick it up another day to have it washed and styled.
Wow! It's so beautiful, i adore '60s you kinda look like Lana Del Rey👌 And also, i love your makeup!! It would be awesome if you do a tutorial on that look🙂
I'm a hairstylist and I just did a beehive with a french twist for a woman who was going to a 60's pageant queen themed party. Lots of fun but soooo much teasing lol
How fun! I think the hairstyle looks especially good pinned back/up on you. This 60s bump reminds me of a hairstyle the was popular at least in the southern U.S. about 10-15ish years ago. I had friends in high school/early college that would wear “bump its” in their majorly teased hair. They were especially popular to be worn with ponytails. The bump its were these foam pads attached to a hair comb you would use to do less teasing but still get higher volume at the roots.
Celeste Stonebraker I had very curly waist-length hair back then, so I never could do that style, but so many of my friends did. I’m also glad I missed out on that trend 😝
I don't even have to watch to tell you.....Not even close to being high enough. lol seriously though. My grandmother and her friends often wore beehives. To this day, I've no idea how long her hair was or wasn't. High hair. Never came down. Aqua net
It would be soooo cool if you‘d collab with Melanie Murphy again and do a Marvellous Mrs. Maisel make over on her 😍 I would sooo love it. But as she lives in Ireland, it‘s not possible, I guess 😭
It isn't a beehive. A true beehive is a very high updo. A very authentic 60s look would be if she just secured her hair in a low ponytail which looks great with all the backcombing.
Love it! I think 60s looks really suit you! I used to do this all the time, but I stopped when I got fed up with having to brush the teased parts out. Took forever!
They also used to sleep on jumbo rollers (with the hair still slightly damp), and when the brushed it out the next day, it would give massive volume, and help create this style more easily.
Teasing was done with a comb, but the top layer would be smoothed out with the edge of a nylon bristle brush. This kind of brush is essential for smoothing out the layers on top, so you can't see the ratty chunks underneath.

My grandma wore this hairstyle at the era, this hairstyle is accurate to be honest. Anyways thanks for the tutorial Lucy.
You look good in any hairstyle! So fun!

Gorgeous recreation!!!!!
This is really cool and looks authentic. Could you do an 80's perm-like hair tutorial in the future?
3:37 80s glam metal hair achieved!
This hairstyle remembers me of teasing my own hair in nearly the same way in order to be a scene girl 😂
So cute!!! Love it 😻💕
So cute 😍😍😍
reminds me of lana del rey
I have naturally curly hair, so not sure this would have worked, but fun to see on straight haired girls. x
Her hair is very long but in order to get the style you would just tease it higher and higher and higher so actually she would have a very high tease
Reminds me of hairspray
Oh mama welcome to the 60s woahhhh ohh
I'm just thinking of trying to wash out all that backcombing and hairspray. My hair is exceptionally fine so it just wouldn't survive well
Please could you try out a Jane eyer hair style (from the 2011 film) 😘
is there some sort of hairpiece i can use to avoid backcombing so much?
wow I like.
This is a really cute hair style but I definitely think that your hair being tied back would of work a fair bit better for you.
Plz healtyh tips advise
lana del rey is that you ?
Flipped not flicked lol
First comment!!!
I thought I invented this hairstyle as a 20 year old. Awkward.😂😂
GIDGET!!
Wow! It's so beautiful, i adore '60s
you kinda look like Lana Del Rey👌
And also, i love your makeup!! It would be awesome if you do a tutorial on that look🙂
Omg, my scene queen days! lol!
While this is an iconic 60s hair style, this is *NOT* a beehive.
Simon Macomber Do you know the actual name of this hair style? Maybe bouffant?
@@windchimeisland yes it’s a bouffant
I'm a hairstylist and I just did a beehive with a french twist for a woman who was going to a 60's pageant queen themed party. Lots of fun but soooo much teasing lol
Wow! Cool hairstyle! Can’t say I would wear it in public, though!😂
Love from my channel💕
Omg I love the 60s!!! This hairstyle is perfect!!!❤️❤️❤️
Psh costume party... this is my everyday hair lol
No joke
X2

you just gave me ptsd i'm sick
@@shelthesea Weren't the commercials just awful?

U can use this style in your beauty beacons series to recreate looks from the movie HAIRSPRAY
Your face really suits the 60s look and vibe-you look so vintagey pretty!
Oh, İ love the 50's and 60's. ❤
That looked great...reminded me of Marlo Thomas in That Girl ✌
I love this style . Have you ever done your mum's hair ?
louise lill interesting question! I wonder that too
Fairly sure this is a soft bouffant and not a beehive...
I don't even have to watch to tell you.....Not even close to being high enough. lol seriously though. My grandmother and her friends often wore beehives. To this day, I've no idea how long her hair was or wasn't. High hair. Never came down. Aqua net
Well, I'm not going to any parties or anything, I'm just going to try to use it daily
1960's: HAIRSPRAY, GEL, AND HAIR GREASE
I would looove doing this on someone else but I would not have the patience to do it on myself lol
Definitely time consuming, but so rewarding! I actually discover your channel with your Brigitte Bardot tutorials lol ❤❤❤❤
It would be soooo cool if you‘d collab with Melanie Murphy again and do a Marvellous Mrs. Maisel make over on her 😍 I would sooo love it. But as she lives in Ireland, it‘s not possible, I guess 😭
I wish you’d kept the fringe and tie the ribbon on top of the fringe. A very 60s bouffant 😊
Edit: oh you did. Never mind and carry on 😂
You could do a Beauty Beacon of Fiction on Megan Draper, a character who all but screamed I am the 1960's!
Hermoso peinado!!!!. Mañana me peinare así. Gracias y saludos desde la Cd de México.
YEEEESSSS I’ve been waiting for this!! this is so good !!
The backcombing can be avoided with wigs. Stack wigs to get the same volume and with less damage to your hair.
Gosh it looks so cute!! I love the 60's. You rock that style btw haha
You make this look easy, I can’t tease my hair to save my life 😭
I love it! And the music in this video is so pretty
Love this. I want the headband though. It's not just like a ribbon, its actually elastic. Where do I find this?
You were meant to do these retro styles for sure. So adorable!
It isn't a beehive. A true beehive is a very high updo. A very authentic 60s look would be if she just secured her hair in a low ponytail which looks great with all the backcombing.
Cute hairstyle. A typical 60s.
Lots and Lots of Aqua Net Hair Spray was needed 🤣😷
Where did you get your headband? It looks perfect with the style!
You look like Pamela Tiffin.
Oh gosh now I can be Lana and Priscilla THANK YOU
Lovely dear
❤️
How do you do this it’s so hard lol
Aqua Net. Ozone hole.
Hairstyle name plz
Please do a beehive next
Easier buying a wig
You so beautiful 🙂
Elvira
WHAT WAS THE NAMEE
Super cute
Love this... however, would hate washing it out! :-)
Cool
Love it! I think 60s looks really suit you! I used to do this all the time, but I stopped when I got fed up with having to brush the teased parts out. Took forever!
You’re beautiful and it looks great, but after this hairdo: R.I.P. healthy hair :-((()
Thank you! My mother in law wore her hair like that back then. I wish I could tease hair but I ffind it difficult. You make it look so easy
My grandma I never met had this hairstyle 😁 Unfortunately she died young but from old photos I know she was a very pretty lady 😁
They also used to sleep on jumbo rollers (with the hair still slightly damp), and when the brushed it out the next day, it would give massive volume, and help create this style more easily.
I don't remember... Did you ever do Peggy Bundy from "Married With Children"?
I'd love to find a way to get her hair
Teasing was done with a comb, but the top layer would be smoothed out with the edge of a nylon bristle brush. This kind of brush is essential for smoothing out the layers on top, so you can't see the ratty chunks underneath.
Loooove the outcome of this tutorial 💜 also; have a beauty beacons suggestion: Caresse Crosby inventor of the modern day bra
Before you added the ribbon you looked a bit like 80s Joan Jett..
Very cute style but I cringe so hard when I see you teasing your hair so much.
I watched a lot of tutorials on this. Yours is by far the best and easiest to follow.
Greetings from TURKEY🇹🇷
I like the BIG beehives but your take is really cute!
My grandmother wore her hair like this in her 20s.
Thanks, luv. I've been wondering how to get this look
Reminds me of Baltimore hairstyle.
Lol, it went from trad goth to 80's to 60's.
Priscilla Presley comes to mind :) ❤
My mom had that hair in the 70's as well lol
You make it look so easy 😱 You’re sooo talented & beautiful ❤️
More of these tutorials pleaseee
