*100% best **Generater.Systems** I have used. A test for hurricane prep here in Louisiana: three AC units, 5000, 5000 & 8000, 3 fridges, 2 device power setups, 4 flat screens....AND I had 40% of the power meter to spare.*
weve had the powerhorse 4500i for 2 years now and just hit 3400 hours. it still runs great but is starting to burn about 1/3rd the oil capacity every 24 hours of run time. im going to try changing the oil up to SAE 30 and see how that goes. but i would deff buy one of these generators again 👌
Awesome and thanks for the feedback. You should be using a 10-30 or 5-30 since the beginning but you could move to a 15-40 diesel if you want or a high mileage 10-30. Hope this helps and thanks again for the feedback back 😀👍🏼
Bought the 3500 Predalatator in 2017, it would not start after it was shut off and re-fueled. Returned to Harbor's Fright. Same year (2017) bought a new EM4000SX for $1999 and kept for 4 yrs. In 2021 sold it for $1750. In Jul/2021 bought a new EU3000IS for $1984 at Lowes w/military discount. In Dec/2023 bought a new EF4500ISE for $2699 from Amazon/Cyber monday sale. Both are up for sale. Am upgrading to the EU7000IS, $4500 at Home Depot with military disc. I steer clear of the Chiner Branded gens. F.y.i. = my EU3000IS and my EF4500IS were manufactured in Japan (high quality). The new EU7000IS is now made in India. I guess we'll see how that goes? Anyway, great vid as always Johnny! Cheers.
Yea unfortunately all Yamaha gens are now in china from what I have seen and Honda is working that way slowly it seems as well. Still japan for some models and Thailand i think and India as well. And thank you.
@@johnnysweekends One last F.y.i. regarding the EM4000SX: Although made in Chiner, I believe it was manufactured to Honda's exacting specs. In the 4 yrs. I owned it, not one, zero issues. For an open frame, non-inverter it was less than half the sound level any competitor. With the "auto-throttlle" on, it was even quieter. The "igx-270" engine was a beast. It could run the RV 15k a/c, the 6 gal. elec. w/h and the microwave (700 watts) simultaneously without breaking a sweat. In addtition to "auto-throttle", it had an elec. choke. Our low temps get down to +10 degrees F. With one turn of the key, the engine fired right up. The auto choke worked perfect, I never used the manual choke once. Honda discontinued the 4000 and now make the EM5000SX. If I were a contractor, I would not hesitate to buy one.
See I think those are good heavy duty units and great for the construction world. Or even back up unit on a farm or a area with a little space that way it doesn’t matter how loud it is. 👍🏼
Yes all soiunds great but how does it cool?? Is there a fan? Wouldn't a generator w/o a case be better? and how easy is this one to convert to propane?
First try the Manual pull cord to get it started. Let it run a little bit. It’s possible the battery it self is to low to activate the starter. So it may need to be charged If still doesn’t work pull cover off and try and tap on starter. I have seen them get stuck and boom it works. Simple as that. If not then possible bad starter But make sure battery is fully charged 👍🏼
Great review. Quick, clear and concise. Finally a video without all the superfluous BS and pre-resume’ garbage or needless distractions. Very refreshing for once. Thanks
If its flooded you normally can smell a little bit of fuel. I dont know the history of the unit like hours or how long it has sat but if flooded its best to let it sit for a few minutes and then try again. Sometimes taking the spark plug out and seeing if its wet will give a good indication if its flooded or if its dry then its not getting fuel. I would also try pull starting if it been a while since its been ran for a higher turn over speed
@@johnnysweekends the equipment has a small hose at the bottom and when I turned it on it started to pour gasoline through that small hose I don't know what's going on with this equipment
It sounds to me like the float is stuck open letting fuel continuously fill the float bowl then over flow. Possibly need to be taking apart and cleaned. Maybe try tapping on the bowl a couple times and see.
Well power horse has more power easy start button and rv plug which I prefer but the warranty replacement of harbor freight is the main selling point. If you didn’t have that people would be buying others like champion or this power horse with more power. Both are good, if you have a northern tool near you that’s the way I would go.
@@johnnysweekends thanks for the input. I have a 7500 powerhorse inverter and had no problems with it. Though many people have had problems with HF and yes the warranty is their but how many times do you have to replace the generator every time a problem comes up. Or has issues. Thank you for the response.
I think the earliest predator models seem to have the best reliability. But since a couple updates it seems it worse now from viewers and groups. Any your welcome and thanks for watching 😀👍🏼
No I would take the champion just from a lot of reviews, plus they also seem to have better customer service and warranty. And I felt the newer champion is better constructed. Both have good engines and both are a Chinese branded engine but both have been around along time so for the most part they should last. I would buy a warranty with both.
I have the red one and I put a piece of foam between the wheel and the lock plate. I think i used a short piece of pipe insulation. It doesn't rattle at all now.
Random question, but out of all the generators you've tested, which one is most fuel efficient for running a 15k ac??? Or lasted the longest I guess you could say..
That’s hard to say with so many variables. Size of engine Heat or ambient temperature And as far as longevity that can come down to owner. For the most part Honda and Yamaha typically last the longest. And funny how I do not hear many problems with Yamaha but have been hearing more with Honda. The knock off brands you just have to make sure you buy a extended warranty. But many people have reported with predator or champion and more having several thousand hours on small units and larger units. You just have to maintain them and not run them at 75% and above capacity all the time. I guess the sweet spot is 40-60% from the off grid guys. They put thousands of hours on gens.
Well I don’t know many people who break in lawn mowers, so kinda yea and no. It’s a good idea to vary the load for the first 20/30 minutes doing heat cycles. This will break in the generator coils and the engines a little. After 20 minutes change oil and you’re kinda good to go. I do have a recent break in video
Does anyone know what the bolt size is for the choke throttle knob? Mine rattled out and it disappeared. I have called and searched and haven't been able to get the answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If this 4500 generator is exactly the same as the predator 3500 with exactly the same engine... then what makes this generator produce more wattage? Does anyone know?
It’s just a different inverter board which holds different electronics and capacitors. And I assume more copper windings on the alternator to help produce more power. But everything else is pretty much identical and possible you could upgrade a predator 3500 if they kept the connections the same. Don’t know.
The predators are great I have owned 2 of them the only thing I don't like about the predator is the 3 month warranty. HF wants to to by an extended warranty whick I believe is about 150 dollars making the predator more expensive. The power horse has more wattage and a 3 year warranty. That being said the power horse is the better deal. The predator and the power horse have the same engine made it the same factory so I don't know why HF makes you pay extra for a warranty. My money would go for the power horse.
