Hey friend, don't worry about what we think, or if you're doing all of this just cause you want to. The most important aspect of it all is, you're doing what "You," want to do and what makes, "You," happy. It's wicked awesome and I'm going to stick around and watch you making you happy. Be safe.

You should really consider adding top and bottom layer plants like lilly pads and some kind of underwater ground moss.

That is awesome! I operated a trout farm in Colorado for 12 years. I had a flow through system, not a re-circ. Like you.
I had double drains in all my tanks, the main being higher than the waste drain, both in a sumo underneath a screen.
Your fighting urine and suspended solids in the tank. It looks awesome though, keep tinkering!

This is one of the best set ups I have seen . My Koi would love that and I would feel so much better with something like that so the darn birds and fox wouldn't touch them. My fish are like my babies. They definitely have emotions and get attached to you. My Koi see me and swim right up to the front and do there little wiggle wiggle just for me to pet them. They swim in and out of my hands and feet rubbing all over me . They have trained my Ex large goldfish to do this now it is so funny. It is not just for food because they still do it after they are full . They love to interact with people. I have always hand raised and swim with my fish since babies.

Very cool. I know your not planning on eating and growing them, but could someone else do this in their garage to raise for food? In theory would it be acceptable to the trout? I wanna do this from a prepping standpoint - plus I love keeping tropical fish (to look at not eat)

Trout and tilapia etc, are the bottom of "my" eat list just below dirt!. Trust me they are not as tasty as you think.
When smoked, lemon pepper, garlic grilled, breaded fried or Cajun style mean
The spices make it barely palatable.

So cool man. I always wanted a massive rainbow trout pond and fish hut like yours out of a green house looks great. And also those are Brooke trout not speckled trout. Speckled trout is a saltwater fish and the only true species of speckled trout there is. Yes many other types of trout have spots and speckles but the only true on is the saltwater speckled trait and man they are a blast to catch and good eating. And if I did do this I would raise them to eat and not just for fun only cause I love fresh trout. And you would have your own reliable food source of fish especially if you start breeding them and have a hatchery in your hut would be awesome

Can this be done in CT? How to i keep the water cold for trout ?

    • @samkom33
      @samkom33 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

funny enough you can use a HEATPUMP TO COOL WATER TO! Its cald an air-water heatpump. in most cold climates its used to heat water that
are stored in accumulator tanks, so that the heatpump dont have to run 24/7, and only run now and then if the temperaturein the tanks
have dropd say from 90c to 80C .that warm water can feed from the tanks to radiators and heat the rooms.
But in the summer if it gets to hot out you can turn a feww switches turning the pumps in to aircondition mode,
and say set the temperature to say 5 to 15c. and use the radiators-air condition fans for cooling.
But i seam to remember he said novia scotia. i think they get max a few days in the year with more than 20C!
and even then the groun under a shed-house is cool.

Thanks for the video! I'll try to build a similar setup this winter: a swimming pool just like yours placed in a small green house made out of an aluminum frame and polycarbonate sheets but I'll go the aquaponics way so I am going to pump the poo water onto some veggies planted in clay pebbles and let the filtrated water pour back to the pool. I am going to pre-stock it with forage fish so as the trout grow they'll have access to natural food besides trout pellets. Ah, and finally I need to find veggies that tolerate lower temperatures and reduced sunlight.
