In 1957, when I was 10 years old, my father bought a Remington Model 511 Scoremaster .22 rifle. Money was tight-he bought it used for $15. That rifle eliminated every squirrel my father saw trying to get at our little stand of corn. I still have that rifle and it still shoot GREAT.

WOW That's great. I have three family guns. My great grand father's Win Model 1895 in 30-06, he bought New in 1917 for 13 dollars. My grand father's Win Model 70 pre-64 in 30-06. My Dad hunted with the Model 70, but I have his Nickle Colt Frontier with both 22LR and Mag cylinders. He carried this pistol load with CCI 22 mag snake load when hunting. My family has been hunting here in Arizona for almost 140 years.
God best you. Granny was a gem

I I inherited my own Browning 22 breakdown just like yours. From my father who has passed. Neither of my brother's wish to have it. I feel very fortunate to be the new custodian of this heirloom. Your video made me take it out to the range after a light going through and 300 round day I am HAPPY. With a few tears cleaning it is a remembrance of my past.🇺🇸

I love hearing stories like this. Definitely the most important firearm in your collection. The only family heirloom firearm I have is a Fox Sterlingworth sxs 12 ga that was originally purchased in the 1930's by my mom's great uncle. It was in the care of my grandparents to be given to me when I turned 21 (although they gave it to me well before that... it was the only firearm I owned at the time and kept it with me throughout college). The funny thing is that the great uncle who willed it died in 1976 and I was born in 1978 so I am curious on how it was worded. Maybe I will will it to my niece's (who is only 8) first born when they turn 21.

My wife's grandfather passed away a few years ago and when we had to clean out his closet, we found a Browning SA 22 chambered in the original .22 Win auto with 2 boxes of ammo. The rounds are larger in diameter than a regular 22 LR, but resemble the .22LR shorts. I've never fired the rifle, and my father-in-law claims to have never known the rifle existed, let alone that the it sat in the closet for over 50 years- chambered.
    Thanks for the video.

It's great to hear of the love you have for your grandma. She sounds so cool. Other grandma's are knitting, making quilts and cooking up peanut brittle. Meanwhile yours was wacking squirrels and deer with a 22. My particular heirlooms are a winchester model 12 from my grandpa and my dad's old octagon barrel model 94 winchester in 30 wcf. My dad loved both of those guns and now I do.

I understand exactly what you mean when you mention those “family heirlooms.” Luckily, I own a shotgun that belonged to my grandfather, and was owned by my great grandfather before him. It’s a William Moore 12 gauge SxS made in London, England sometime before 1872. I bought my first fire safe when I inherited this gun. In addition, I also own guns that were owned by my father and three of my uncles. I also have a SA 22 Browning just like your grandmother’s. Many of the guns in my sizable collection will become family heirlooms in the years to come.

I got one and it was my dads. It’s not been shot much and as with a lot of those models it has a crack in the stock just behind the receiver where you were not supposed to hold it when twisting the barrel on and off. It’s not a unstable crack and not so noticeable but that being there even makes it more special. Belgian made, really reliable and easy to shoot accurately. And like you said there’s no amount I would take for it cause it was my dads. Always enjoy your vids and your easy going manner and cudos to your loving character when it comes to family and in this case your grandma. Blessings.

Thanks for sharing this video with us-it’s far & away my favourite video of yours…& you’ve put out a lot of great videos. It’s the story that has really given me a little bit of insight as to how it is that you seem to be such a friendly, good person. Family can make or break a person, & I’m able to tell that you come from a good family. Your Granny sure sounds like she was a lot of fun, & our elderly folks are-for the most part-our greatest generation. Most of the folks who lived through the Depression have passed on but NOT without giving us our FREEDOM. I digress, awesome video of a fabulous story. Thanks very much.

60 yrs old? Just getting broken in. I remember my first 22 I bought saved and saved. Winchester pump. Most friends had Mossberg's, Steven's, JC Higgins. But if you had a Browning you were one hell of a highroller. Very well-made. Reliable and accurate. Gun can't be blamed for some lunker head getting hot brass down his sleeve. Great video and great tribute to a fine woman who's gone on ahead.

I’m from the uk,an old friend of mine had the sa22 ,iv always loved this gun over all others because of its genius design and easy cleaning ,sadly my old friend was diagnosed with cancer ,he took me to one side and said “I’m dying ,it’s inevitable what is going to happen to me,but I would like to leave my Sa 22 to you”I was honoured ,and after his death it took an age to get it on my licence, but the first shots I did with it I won a timed 20m standing competition against better shooters with “better guns”it’s still my favourite.Thank you Ron.

I inherited my dad's SA and it's funny how confidence inspires success. There is such a connection to it... it's such a good design and I have so much confidence using it, it almost takes on a life of it's own from an accuracy standpoint. Many match grade M1's, Browning BARs, Glocks and countless other firearms later, because of my connection with it and my dad, nothing else comes close. My dad shot left and the benefit of bottom ejection is just more proof of John Browning's genius. When I was young on our Missouri farm and heard the distinctive sounds of the barrel threads going into the receiver and click of the lock, it was gonna be a good day. I was always in awe watching him shoot, because not that long before, he did the same thing with an M1 Garand in Korea and he wasn't shooting paper targets. Thanks for the awesome story about your grandma and her Browning, and allowing me to relieve some great memories.

You are blessed with an heirloom and memory of special family members. Life is just that simple. Never take it for granted or moan about life being repetitive. Now it's our turn to pass on the same to our younger generation that we are raising. Call, visit, or make contact with your elders because someday they too will pass and you will only have memories and stories to tell. Thank you for sharing your personal story.

Great video and a cool grandma! I have my granddad's old Remington 514 single-shot .22, that he used to keep the rabbits under control on his ranch in central California. It was a gift from my dad back in the late '50s. When I was nine, it was the first gun I ever fired. My granddad passed in 1971, but his rifle is in perfect condition and I take it out once in a while, just to knock over some steel plates and think about a simpler time. There must be a million stories just like yours and mine out there!

I bought one of these Browning .22's back in the early 90's when I was 14 years old from Bill's gun shop outside of Cashton, WI. I immediately fell in love with the beautiful design and most importantly the super fine sites. I traded in 2 junk .22's and $300 to boot. A lot of money for a kid mowing lawns and shoveling snow. I know this gun was special but now that I have 2 young boys I am realizing that this little .22 will definitely be worthy of a hand me down someday. I can't say that about any of my other guns. This one is and will always be truly special. Thanks for sharing your story about your Grandmother

There is something to be said for how heritage can be passed down through firearms. Great story, granny sounded like quite a great woman. You would also be amazed at the value of those old Brownings. A co worker of mine just paid 2200$ for one because it was just like the one his father had one just like it. Not that you'd consider selling it.
I bought my wife one in 1985 while we were dating. It was quite disappointing though that it wasn't made in Belgium though.

I had a Belgium Browning FN my Dad bought in Begium in 1957-58; at the FN factory and I have a Browning SA .22 bought 5 yrs. ago The collectors want the FN Models simply because they are no longer made in Belgium.. The Browning SA .22s made in Japan are actually have updates that the FN rifles domnot have with better features, better sights, tapped screws directly on the barrel ie(not just a sliding rail to mount a scope. Check Google out comparison of Belgian FN Browning SA .22s compared to features of the Japanese model Browning SA.22. If you are just collecting then you would want the Browning FN but if you are a shooter the Japanese Browning is preferred because of the upgrades

I am soo glad you told that story. I have a similar story my grandmother, who partly raised me. she had a winchester 30-30 that was her favorite. she would always say that she could shoot the eyes out of a rabbit at 50 yards. we, as childrenand grandchildren didnot quite believe her. one day we took her to the range and we were shocked. One day I asked her how she came to get the rifle and she told me that 0ne of her friends/ neighbors had given her this gun one day while they were out riding the range together. she said he gave it to her because she could out shoot him "any day of the week and twice on sunday" she then preceded to tell me the name of ther friend was billy boney "billy the kid" even though we do not have written proof I am convinced it is because their ranch was adjacant to the Chisholm ranch where billy the kid started his life of crime.

Thank you for sharing a great part of your family's history and the history of this firearm. I just picked up one of these and am delighted to have found this video. Recently I lost both my Grandfather and Father on the same day. As you mentioned, nothing is worth more than a Family heirloom. I hope to pass on my love for firearms to my children and grandchildren. Thanks again!

@@justinandres7240 Large numbers of stray cats really do a number on rabbits and ground birds. We still have rabbits because they're so prolific but their numbers are not as high as they were pre cat. Bobwhite quail and whippoorwills have been locally extirpated. Gone completely because of feral cats and coywolves. These aforementioned bastard animals have also drastically reduced the number of grey fox and bobcat. Thank God where I live there is still some common sense prevalent when it comes to dealing with such animals. Poisoning, trapping, and shooting are welcomed and appreciated. I shoot, stab, and/or stomp every stray cat I see. Coywolves are smarter and I don't have the time to hunt them, but a good bowl of antifreeze left at the woodline surely does it's part.

98, That is a fantastic age, and not something to be sad for. My dad is 80 and has his health issues here and there, and i live abroad and hardly get to see him which sucks but we do visit once a year and call, but we know things are comming. But one thing that will never die, and those are the memories. I bett you have a ton of great memmories of granny. This is really a nice video. I had an old rifle in my room from my grand dad as a memory. it was a old german bolt action rifle, made innoperable, from WW1. It actually had marks in the wood where there were imprints of fingers on the stock.
I never took it with me and when i came back one year the rifle was gone from my room. That was a bummer to say the least.

Thanks for making this video. I am 62 years old now and remember my dad squirrel hunting with his Sa22. I was too young to hunt with it but always loved that gun. Dad hocked that rifle. Premier grade for a single shot 20 gauge and couple boxes of shells for Christmas present for my older brother. I found the receipt of that transaction years after my dad passed tucked away in his gun cabinet. You are right that no money could coax you into selling such a precious heirloom.

I have one, made in Belgium 1959. They are a worth about $800 if in perfect condition. It was my grandfather’s, and it is too most valued to me, notwithstanding my Weatherbys and other Brownings. Sadly, I am the last of my family, and am single and 50, so I dont have any idea who to will it to. :\ Sorry to hear about your grandmother. My dad lost his dad on his BDay too. 11 down the pipe, 1 in the chamber…12 total.

Great video! I just inherited my dad’s Belgian SA-22 and want to remove the cantilever scope rail and find a rear sight. Did you run into any surprises or have to replace the front sight?
Also curious to know if you plugged the two screw holes or left them open. Thanks again for a great video.
