    We I've lived in Glasgow for72 years and I have just learned facts I hadn't known before. Thanks, and I have subscribed to learn more about the City of my birth, well they say it's never too late to learn.

    Loved this one. I'm eighty and live in Australia now but still remember my daddy helping me onto those lions. Was there when our late queen paid her first visit after her coronation.
    Follow all your vids.

    My wife and I love Glasgow and try and visit as often as possible and I can thoroughly recommend the city chambers visit, George sq to me is the heart of Glasgow and it’s where I gravitate toward my wife on the other hand loves the people’s park and that’s where she goes to feel totally relaxed and enjoy her morning walks, greetings from Ireland,

    Great video Dave. I'm willing to bet that this is the episode with the least distance travelled, this not being a Postie life is showing through. Joking aside another fascinating episode and I have indeed sat on a bench to eat my Greggs on many occasion.

      I have been terribly un productive for videos since I left RM but training courses, job interviews and holidays have left me with less video time than working every day :-D I filmed some of this episode on the way back from a job interview which is why I had no bike with me. Thank you again for your support mate, Dave.

    I was born at 99 Dundas street just around the corner. Spent much of my childhood at the square when it had lots of grass. Thanks for the memoriesQQQ (May)🇨🇦

    Amazing video as always, love the work you do. Cliché to say but for a modern statue on the square I'd have to say the big yin himself. A man of great talent and charity that's carried the spirit of Glasgow around the world with him, and deserves a long long rest. Can't say he'd deserve the pigeon poo though

    I would dedicate a statue to Dr June Almedia, a Glaswegian scientist who discovered corona viruses in the 1960s. She was from Denniston and couldn't afford to go to uni.

    Just found this video, which I enjoyed very much. Thanks for that. At the foot of the flag staff over the entrance to the city chambers is our very own statue of liberty. There is an even better one over the entrance to the people's palace.

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for the kind words and I am glad you enjoyed it. I am going to sound like an annoying know it all but the statue on the city chambers is not Liberty, its Veritas, the Goddess of truth and virtue. I believe the statue on the Peoples Palace is Minerva. Glasgow has only one true statue of Liberty and she stands in Queens park; th-cam.com/video/wfgPsdVZnd4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4RSbhWO0Iqh7yEbJ

      @@AstonishingGlasgow I stand corrected and thanks for the Info. Do you remember that stupid Lord Mayor we had, who wanted to play chess with the statues on George Square to bring it into the 21st century, which was going to cost us millions?

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Brace yourself for this. George square is to be fenced off this January and if the reports are to be believed it will not be open to the public again for two years. The statues are being removed and a water feature and play area added to the square.

      @@AstonishingGlasgow You have got to be having a laugh. A play area? The paedos being released from prison early will think all their Christmas' have come at once. This will give them somewhere to hang out. Ladbrooks will be taking bets to see how long it takes to be covered in pigeon poop. As for the water feature? We'll see how long it takes before it gets vandalized.

    Good luck,I hope you get the job,I seen in freakbewk you were initially planning something else,but handy since you were @ interview nearby.Good stuff as usual. To me,the square has never felt the same since they got rid of the red tarmac on the deck there. Weird! Statue of YOU! for educational services. I've never heard polis in Glesga called 'bobbies',it's usually a very word beginning with a B and ending in an S. 😆 The size thing was fascinating btw. Maybe have to doing MY measuring at night though!😉

    NB: I was ASTONISHED to see what’s been done to the ‘oldest house’ in Glasgow High St- Instead of being dated at 1471 (I think) Now it looks like it belonged to Easternouse - 1960s…… WHO did that, and WHY?

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Its fair to say that almost all of Glasgow's trade (and every other industrialised city of the time) in the 1700's involved slave trading in some way. Im not even close to being qualified to discuss it fully but remember that there was also a lot of people in Glasgow who opposed slavery and helped to get it banned.
