Fun Fact about the “To Michael” commercial: Michael was actually a real person they were tributing named “Michael John Mamaril”. He was a PS3 fan who tragically passed away via cancer and so Sony with the support of Michael’s friend chose him as the person the characters would pay tribute towards, in fact a lot of the games represented in that commercial was actually some of Michael’s favorite games and favorite gaming characters, which just makes this commercial all the more bittersweet In fact not just that, in Borderlands 2, there was actually also a monologue by Claptrap paying respects to Michael as a sort of tie in to that commercial, you can actually look it up for yourself! And on top of that they also added him in as an NPC! And also side note fun fact: the director of the commercial went on to direct the 2021 Mortal Kombat Movie that was actually not bad! (At least in my opinion hehe)
I had heard that same story, but I don't know if there is any connection between the former Borderlands player turned NPC and the commercial Michael. At least, I can't find any information confirming it's the same person.
@@safebox36 I remember an article talking about it years ago but likely it was buried deep within the internet sea or just got taken down for unknown reasons And also either way Michael’s frame in the commercial showing what he looks like and the NPC in borderlands 2 are the exact same, down to even the same nose shape (just the only real difference is that in borderlands 2 he has cool shades) but anyway it’s just a little piece of trivia with the commercial that’s just made me love it even more, even if it is very… sad.
I can’t find any evidence of this connection. Also there was a contest going on for that commercial. They wanted a picture and your name. And my friend claimed to have won the contest. And I seen pictures of him and it looks just like the picture from the commercial. Maybe he lied and happens to look identical. @@PepsiCat321 I already said earlier that I found that trivia in a website that nowadays has been most likely either deleted for unknown reasons or buried within the internet sea, but given how you said it was a contest, it does make a bit more sense in retrospect! as in likely they chose Michael as the winner for the commercial not because of luck or chance but rather because of that reason that made Sony skew the winner chance towards Michael Similar to how the goldenbolt won the PlayStation all star sweepstakes because he wrote a nice letter to the devs and so they made him the winner because of it! While I don't think it ever aired on TV, the PlayStation 20th anniversary video of the two kids growing up around PlayStation has always been another fun one. I love commercials that just pay tribute to a company history, especially ones like PlayStation that has been a part of so many peoples lives. The Perfect Day commercial invokes the same feelings as the Michael ad as well.

Funny enough, my favorite playstation commercials were the early PSP ones that introduced me to the song Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand. Which wound up being one of my favorite bands of all time now.
I don't know if I should miss those early 2000s video game commercials or not. Some of them are painfully of-their-time, but stuff like Mental Wealth or The PS3 Baby sticks with you more than most of the recent marketing efforts.
The PS3 Baby ads just felt like to me as if whoever was in charge of launch ads wanted to see if they could make the end of 2001: A Space odyssey while on as many drugs as possible.
