I first heard this back in the mid-90s as a young boy. I remember listening to it one afternoon when it was still light outside - still scared the hell out of me.
In college, I wrote a poem about a trio of hobos who were trying to get to a place I called Vermillion Cliffs. I didn't know until now that there was such a place!
@@GazB85 The symbolism I saw is related to one of several types of hero journeys, e.g. Beowulf, Hercules, Jesus, in which the hero descends into the earth, does battle with a monstrous figure, and returns to the surface transformed by their experience.
Don Dowd hosted a radio show called Mystery time. This same story was presented by him with different cast. I have it on a reel to reel, if I can find it. It's been over 50 years ago.
19 teens through the end of the golden age of radio are the true golden age of entertainment in radio, tv and movies. All else is trash despite the millions in CGI, so called “great” directors and “great” producers and even so called “greater” actors. The staff and perhaps behind the scenes people are (maybe) of equal talent. Humans seem to be de-evolving...not evolving despite technological innovation in the realm of entertainment and........? Could george clooney hold a candle to spencer tracy? clark gable? james cagney? bogart?........etc.
It's seems to be the rush to get content out with all of the media outlets we have now. That is why the quality is going down hill. We keep rehashing the same stuff over and over with no thought of originality. People want the quick fix! Attention spans have went down to about 2 minutes and it's move on to the next!
OTR HALLOWEENHOLIDAZE I agree completely but if a really talented individual were to come on scene (actor, producer, director) with clout, they’d say to heck with all the outlets, to heck with shortened attention spans.....Let’s get back to good, original story telling. Let’s force the public to listen/watch because the story is so compelling. Maybe start a weekly show on radio/Sirius?
Nah, what we are actually seeing is just a drastic lowereing of the baseline mean if you will. What I mean by that is that while the explosion of the information age has allowed the best and the brightest hitherto unparalleled access to information at a truly staggering rate, it has also exposed the "sagging belly" of man to man. It is a two way street. In short, we have been made painfully aware that humanity is, by and large, intellectual chum. This is not an issue of "dumbing down", we have always been dumb. It is one of self awareness. I read some trite email sig once that read, "Every village has an idiot... and the Internet gives him a voice." Change that to read, "Every village is filled with idiots and the Internet gives them a voice.", and that about states it best. We live in a world where a frighteningly large percentage of the population believes that the earth is 6000 years old, flat and that "the devil" is distorting what people see when they look through a telescope. That percentage was almost certainly larger in 1950. The real difference between then and now is that we used to truly celebrate excellence and intellect; now we are threatened by it.
I'd like to leave a comment, but ... Oh, You have to get off here. Perhaps we'll meet again. I listen to OTR HALLOWEENHOLIDAZE at least 3 times a week.
Great old time storys

+David Feldmann Shows still have an eerie tone! Great to listen to any time of the day and will still give you chills!
The first time I heard this, I was living in the shadows of the Vermillion Cliffs in Page, AZ. What a crazy experience.

A frightening little yarn. Looking forward to listening to more episodes of this show.
Thank you! Gives me idea of what to post coming up.
Great scares!!!
Voice acting is so good. I'm creeped out whole time!!
Radio voices are brilliant! ❤
I am divorced. I listen to this in the corner of my neighbor's damp basement in the dark. A wool blanket is all I own. Jimmy John delivers.
Wow...this is why I bother to read TH-cam comments ...brilliant
This is possibly the best comment I've ever read on TH-cam...
Is this for real?
You got the wrong Divorce Lawer,
Solitude, some folks will never know the freedom being able to look deep in yourself and challenge the darkness find out who you really are.
This was great! Best mysterious traveler I've heard yet!
Holy moly! That's freaky!
Was always a favorite of mine.
I love The Mysterious Traveller. Seems like whoever wrote the story for The Descent loved this program too 🤔
The Descent was a scary movie, with plenty of powerful symbolism, too.
@@artmoss6889 Which ‘The Descent’ movie, 2005?
@@GazB85 Yes, 2005.
@@artmoss6889 What was the symbolism you were referring to in it?

Like old creepypasta I Love it!
Great connection! They are my two favorite sites but I never really thought about the similarities before you mentioned it. You made my day.
Reminds me of The Morlocks!!!🎃
Love the storys
