Going to Minnesota rejuvenated his career. From 39 pts and looking rather washed-up for CAR/NY, to scoring 28 then 42 goals. Did alright for FLA on bottom-six minutes after fizzling in BUF/MTL, one last hurrah.
@@HouseHippoWrangler How is Jordan Staal a bigot? I don't think it's entirely a coincidence that the two who made such a fuss about pride jerseys only started after they moved to Florida . . .
Pretty nice career and a pretty good, solid player for a long run. Best to him in his retirement was always a fan of his game and the Staal bros. Also all the best to Marc as well.
Canes fan here. Eric’s production faltered with the Canes but they were in the throes of one of the worst stretches of team play in the modern NHL. Those teams in the mid teens were unwatchable and his line mates were awful. It’s not surprising his numbers plummeted.
For a while he held the single season goal scoring record for 2 teams simultaneously (Carolina and Minnesota). I wonder how many other players have done that
I remember going to a lot of Lowell Lock Monsters games and watching Staal play, and I even got his autograph before he made the NHL… was one of my favorite players to watch growing up!
Man I didn't even think it being just his second season in 05/06. I started watching hockey of my own accord the season prior when I was like 10 or 11. Ofc I'm a flames fan now 😅
I remember being so excited he was coming to the Rangers back then. It just seemed like he was nervous to be himself. Almost as if he didn’t want to overshadow Marc or something, it was odd.
We had an owner who wasn’t interested in spending to the cap or fielding a competitive team. Building was half empty most nights and a joke on the ice. I wouldn’t blame him at all if he was just phoning it in.
Am I correct, he couldnt find a team for last season? It feels strainge to me, as staal was a good 4th liner with almost 30 points. And i watched every game he played that season.
Eric Staal isn't the best player of that draft, but if canes pick Bergeron they may have a more frequent playoff appearance but they certainly won't be winning in 06
I always wonder how it feels to win a cup so early then get nowhere near again. I mean it's great to win one at all, but like Jagr (still chasing another) it's a good long career with no more cups. (Though at least Staal got close late on.)
I was kinda hoping to see the Montréal pride jersey in this video. You know, since he's "never worn one before" even though there's photographic evidence of him wearing one 😂😂😂
@Jooseppi420 can you explain the joke? Is it that a group of people that have been ostracized from today's society, trying to find a sense of community and be recognized by a sports team wearing that community's colors? Is that the joke there @Jooseppi420 ?
Don't get me wrong, Eric Stall had a great career and has a lot to be proud of! In terms of HOF, I personally feel that his career isn't Hall of Fame worthy.
Worth mentioning, he was on the cover of NHL '08.
Got to watch Eric as well as a whole bunch of other stars in the AHL during that lockout. The New England based AHL teams were loaded with talent
I always loved watching Jordan and Eric face off with the penguins and hurricanes
Man, Starting to make me feel old😂
I know right?? Sheesh

I feel older and older watching these I saw this guy walk the stage and get drafted crazyyyyyy
I forgot he played for Montreal. He might want to, too.
Great, memorable career though.
Gotta admit. The Staal family produced a great deal of high level hockey players. And still going. Nice.
The Staal brothers are the 2000's and 2010's version of the Hughes

He was my favorite hockey player growing up, and I'm so glad to see that his number will be retired by the Canes in just a few months.

He should have such PRIDE after a long successful career

Panthers legend wish we got him his 2nd cup in 2023
Eric Staal and Cam Ward were my first real hockey hero’s outside of my home team. High class guys
His productive 4 years in Minnesota correlate with his happiness close to home.
Great video

Eric Staal shouldve won the conn smythe in Carolina's cup run

Who knows what was going on behind the scenes, but later in his Canes career, he just did not look happy even after scoring goals.

Sabre legend…
Played during Covid. I’m told he never unpacked his bags when he was in town.
Honourable mention to that time he refused to acknowledge he wore a pride jersey
Favorite canes player of all time
From a Flyers Fan I Liked Watching Eric Stall When He Played

Was hoping you'd use the picture of him wearing a pride jersey for the thumbnail hahahaha
Kid from my town that stole the cup from my Oilers in 06
My like button is gone???
Buffalo Sabres legend
Great player. Got his jersey! Go Canes!
Eric is a borderline hall of famer. He probably won't get there but he's close.
He might, he's Canadian. He might be the fifth inductee in a weak year.
Infamously with a terrible memory
Great guy, great career, and a great video!

Maybe he understood later what A joke pride is.
@Jooseppi420 still wore it and tried to deny it, though. The facts don't care about your feelings ;)

I agree. What a missed opportunity.
Nobody cares, bro.

Always hated him. Good riddance.
Second overall in the best draft in the modern era (2003). BUST, ANYBODY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I'm on the fence. Triple Gold and very long career with 1000+ points. On the other hand no individual accolades. I'd be ok with in or not.
