My Mom always made black eyed peas for the New Year. She was raised in Georgia but we lived in Tampa Fl. growing up. It's funny how you just feel like home or like a relative or something! I love your cooking and am so sad that the one person that cooks like my Mom is off the food network! They don't know what they are missing! God bless you and your boys! P.S. That tea looked so good!!
I stopped watching Food Network, haven't watched them since. Besides it became more about "glamorous food" and hot chef's than just some good recipes. And I got pretty sick of all the stupid "challenge" shows.
Paula, you are making me so hungry, I am unable to put my thoughts together and tell you what it's like, looking at all that beautiful, good food you whisk together as if you had magic powers. I don't know where to begin...everything is so appetizing, it's frustrating. I love your display on the porch, with the colorful flowers and those sides, just waiting to be devoured by some lucky people. God bless you, dear lady. I'm glad you are on TH-cam.
My grandmama used to make turnip mashed potatoes and I thought she was sneaking them in the pot because she wanted to use them up , she wouldn't waste anything. I didn't know this was a real thing. 😆 Thanks for the memory of her. ❤
You should have called it "African succotash" b/c you added okra. Okra is an African veg. Succotash is a Native American dish that used squash instead of okra. THE THREE SISTER'S [beans, corn, squash]. I know I'm Native American.

Butter beans are much larger than lima beans. Butter beans are a cream color, where as lima's are green.
