  • Joseph Hooker was a great plant hunter, he helped shape the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew into the botanical heart of the British Empire. In 1865 Joseph Hooker became the Garden's director.

    Hooker was also the man who transformed Ascension Island, having stopped their on his way back from the Antarctic.
