  • Artist Kate Nichols longed to paint with the iridescent colors of butterfly wings, but no such pigments existed. So she became the first artist-in-residence at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to synthesize nanoparticles and incorporate them into her artwork.     What a cool person! I love her explanations, curiosity and creativity. Just the idea of approaching the lab with the idea was bold. How fortunate that the lab director was also an artist! Hell, I even like the handwriting in her notebook.

    @MaBuSt We vetted this animation with scientists at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories, and they concurred this was an accurate description of surface plasmon resonance.

    Can we tune the color by subjecting the silver nanoprisms to a changing electric field? I hope you do an experiment on this.

    KQED i expected more from you, 5:40, this is not surface plasmon resonance that is represented, this is plasma resonance.

    if you go defer in that study that color, you can create a color invincible color or can mike a camouflage invincible . imagine if you do that, what will be the impact in our wold, specially in our arm forces, that study color by using nano technology is the new be-gaining of the future.

    how does light change the nano structure of the silver? Do the photons travel more intensely? How would the light even change the structure. wow.
