I suggest that you take a look at, say:
      Paleo Hiker
      Coalcracker
      GearSkeptic
They do a good job of taking an issue apart into understandable chunks.
      Corporals Corner
Either way, my best to you.

I’ve had that tent for years, and it has been amazing, I’ve had no leaking, no problems, and I love it.
Side note, it maybe a batch thing or because this one is just newer, but mine is a much darker green that has helped me on many stealth camping nights.

@@adriant1940 I’m sorry it didn’t come in the darker green, I wonder if they chose to change the colors? Shortly after I got mine, it went out of stock for over a year, so I wonder if they were doing a big change on some of the small things. Another thing was mine had no loose threads, but that’s a small detail

Using flat camouflage color spray paints works wonders for gear that does not match your environment. I live in a desert and use allot of tans and browns to blend in solid green tents and tarps.

    • @mrwhatsgoingon-p1p
      @mrwhatsgoingon-p1p 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

Does the spraypaint stay on well? What kind of spray are you using? I want to do the samen but can imagine not all sprays sticking to the weatherproof chemicals

@ krylon or rustoleum it depends on the fabric some take more or less paint I haven’t really had any use on waterproof sprays.

For the money, weight, and size, I think I’ll stick with my LanShan 1 Pro. I love the brown color. As for the Winterial, I’m a little concerned about the combo of the loose pitch and zipper flap causing leaks. Small tents are not fun places to wait out bad weather.

Hi Luke! This is HILARIOUS! I say that because I sent you an email back in, I believe it was sometime 2018-2020; I know. It's a long time period. Anywho, I sent you an email about my 3 person Winterial that I absolutely loved and it did nothing but perform for me. I still have the tent but haven't used it in awhile because I've been camping with a friend of mine and we use her big Coleman tent. I'm sorry I didn't have the $$ at the time to send you the one I had to test but when this video came up, I laughed out loud! It's not the first time you heard of the brand because you replied to my email. :D

Great set up and go-over. I have a Winterial tent cot. I've used it in everything except snow and it's great quality. If this is built anything like that tent, it won't leak! I can say their customer service is top notch, as I broke a clip on mine (My fault after a few too many beers) and they sent me a whole set of 4.

  • @libertyfighter76

If this Winterial Bivy tent is almost identical to the Snugpack Ionosphere apart from a few very minor differences, then it will be very interesting to see how well it performs in a good rain test and for condensation, it's got the good price going for it as well as pretty decent build quality.
As for the colour, I'm with TOGR, it's a light minty green, not very stealthy but some people might like it, it's not bad but I'd prefer it to be something more along the lines of a dark green or other similar colour which blends itself into the woodland/forest foliage better.

I guess that I have some claustrophobia... because I don't wanna be slid into an MRI machine, or see the lid of a tanning machine come down on me. And I ain't sleeping in a tent THAT small. I will carry the extra weight to sleep in a bigger tent than that. The term CASKET comes to mind. Once again, I will laud the 5 foot by 7 foot A frame trail tents. The Texport, Green River, and French F-1 are all close in weight to that thing, and have much more floor space. Unlike your perspective, the green is a fine color for me. Zippers look large and easy. I will predict that it won't leak. But it is a CASKET. I gotta have more room than that.

  • @anthonyromano8565

I used to use a bivy and a special beaver tail pack from Moonbow that made the bivy the pack body that hold your gear. So you can fold the bivy, pad and bag into one unit your gear goes in the middle and folded and the 1 lb beaver tail pack compresses it into a hard stable unit. Set up camp in 2 minutes.

I bought this Winterial Bivy tent (in orange) thinking it would be good to take on winter hikes in the WMNF above treeline, just in case I have to shelter due injury or sudden storm. I haven't had to use it in those situations yet, but it gives me peace of mind knowing I have something substantail to wait out some challenging conditions just in case something unforeseen happens. I probably would choose something roomier if I were on a 2 or 3 night backpacking adventure.

Thanks for the review, Luke. I like the tent (provided it does not leak, of course). I think this would be good for stealth camping IF it came in more useable earth tone colors or a good camo pattern(s). But for me I like the ability to at least be able to sit up to read a map, change my shirt/socks, etc. If I was in a situation where I wanted to stealth camp, I think I would choose the Catoma Wolverine EBNS as it comes in a more useable camo/coyote brown colors, is easier to deploy, and is as light or lighter. But it too does not allow you to sit up without opening the tent. Therefore for a bit more weight (due to a second door and additional poles) , I would choose the Litefighter tent, although that tent is considerably more expensive. Glad to hear/see that your family is doing well and that your cabin is re-waterproofed.

I've still got an old Walrus Microswift, which was similar and fairly state of the art >2 decades ago. Packs pretty small, 14 inch rugby ball size, 3.5 pounds, and very tough and pretty weather tight with a chimney to vent warm moist air. Nothing stealthy about the original grey/gold color scheme though, and a bit of a chore to get in from the far end. Peak height was only 2.5 feet. Of course our "three" person zpacks triplex packs smaller and weighs a pound less, but these little ones are great when you need an extra tent for an extra kid or friend (or dog).

Crazy timing on this video. I have been looking into bivy tents for stealth camping. And this tent in particular I checked out. Snugpak was out from the get go because of the cost. I simply was not going to pay 300 for a bivy. Honestly the inconsistency in weight claimed and actual, and the claimed material differing I am kinda meh....and will probably keep looking. Thanks!

The Winterial tent was always the closest option that I saw to an ionisphere. I investigated it when I bought the ionisphere but ended up going with the Ionisphere instead mostly because the pack is more compact and will fit easy into a backpack.

I think I am in too small of a minority of population for a tent like this to ever work for me. At 6'3", the tent is too short in length, width, and height for me to be comfortable; I'd need it to be at least 1' longer, 6" wider, and 6" taller. I also have concerns about air flow with a tent this small, as I sleep best when the temperature is in the low 60s (F).
On that note, I'd love for you to include temperature and humidity readings (inside and outside the tents) in your testing to give real data regarding tent air flow. Whether you decide to do this or not, you're doing God's work on this channel.

I own a Snugpak Ionosphere and I think it's the best bivy ever. Completely waterproof and plenty of room for me and my 65L pack inside and I see it priced mostly at $250. online. The low profile and olive drab green color, make it a very effective, stealth-camping tent. This Winterial is nice but much smaller inside yet much easier to get in and out of than the Ionosphere. I'd like to see a rain test to see if it's actually waterproof and what's it's like in windy storm conditions.

I love my Winterial Bivy Tent. I tested it in a Nor'Easter here on Long Island last year but under a suspended tarp so I'm still not sure If I need to extra seam seal it or not. I don't think I do. I only experienced a bit of splash up under the rainfly when I pitched it in a dirt patch. But I think In grass there wouldn't be any issue with hard rain splashing up under the rainfly. I did experience a lot of condensation but maybe I pitched it without letting enough airflow in. But I did love how warm I felt inside of it despite the windy conditions outside. I really look forward to your rain tests with this one. You experience much larger thunderstorms than I do and I'd love to know how this would hold up if I did take it on a bad weather journey.

I have a Forceatt one pole, one person tent, but I think I like the Winterial better. The Forceatt doesn't have any extra space under the fly whatsoever (my biggest peeve about it), the door is at the head of the tent, making getting in and out trickier, and it has pole sleeves. On the plus side, it's a darker green and has more headroom than the Winterial. I could probably fit my ruck inside if I had to, but I haven't used it in more than a very light rain so I just put my poncho over it and tuck under. It's worked so far, but I'd like a proper atrium/vestibule.
BTW, I was gonna say, "Winterial? What do Californians know about winter?" but I guess they have *some* mountains.

Yes, this tent will leak. I love the clips vs the sewn in tubes. This tent won’t work for me. I’m a bit of a silver wolf and move slower and don’t bend like I used to. The 2 sided opening isn’t big enough, the tent isn’t big enough. I’m 6’4”. I love the price. I don’t give a hoot about the color but my favorite is the OneTigris dark gray. The design is perfect (except for the door). Sadly, I won’t be getting this tent

The snugpak killer already exists, it's the jack wolfskin gossamer 2. This one does also look very promising however.

May I ask as a 5'2 woman what would be a good stealth tent like this for me? I wanted something sorta like this and had been looking up bivy's because it feels easier to hide something like this, especially since all I will have with me is a bookbag with a few supplies of no perishable foods, a large water container, a solar powered light, a book, and a first aid kit. I just don't want to be easily discovered since I'd be by myself.

This reminds me of my Eureka Solitaire! You tested it 9 years ago. Can you say how this one lives up in comparison?

I think the tent will do close to the same as the ionosphere for less money. I do not think it will leak.

Due to the fly over the zipper or rather the almost lack of one, i say yes it will leak at the zipper

You sold me on the Snugpak 2 year’s ago...hate to see what that costs now if the Ionosphere is over three hundred...

It looks very much like a Eureka Spitfire 1 I've had for years. Same form and same features. The only reason I bought it is because it's under 3 pounds and I thought I would hike with it. Never used it. It's claustrophobic. Like an MRI tube. Much prefer my old dome tent.
