I think you are the best modern day photographer i have seen (on the internet?) period. I don't know how but your photography truly inspires me to take better photos. Mainly because you take amazing photos in mundane locations/weather in 35mm with no tricks (wide angle/telephoto/bokeh). Makes me tell myself that i am a bad photographer because i rely on fancy tricks to produce good photos and force myself to really go beyond and take good interesting photos.
What a comment. Thank you so much dude, incredible to get a comment like that. Don't put yourself down about using other techniques to get the shot! I'm lucky to be able to spend LOADS of time shooting with a 35mm, and so I become proficient with it. It's my job and my passion so all of my time is spent thinking about compositions etc. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment
That you managed to get any decent pics at all in those crowds is amazing. Well done - both St Peter's shots were wonderful. And I bet you that woman will make something mind-blowing with those Corn Flakes, a delicate, brilliantly seasoned crust for a fresh fish her husband just caught that morning... or just a bowl of cereal. But one can dream.
Thank you so much! I didn't show you all the images that didn't work 👀 I think she was on her way to make some SERIOUS Crispy cakes ahah. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment
From those vatican shots I think the first one is absolutely fantastic. In my opinion, the composition here is immaculate while still giving off a very spontaneous, snapshot vibe as these people are visibly walking towards you. The combination of the light coming through the window and the colorful clothes is very unique, it's as if the light was split through a prism into its different spectral colors, as if these people have come from "above" and the Basilica's architecture obviously just adds to this perception.
What a wonderful description of the image! Might have to use that when I repost the image in a few months ahaha. Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful comment
Well Done James for producing your video with that intense heat, considering the camera overheating in the hot sun your shots were all bangers and interesting and the video vlog entertaining , 😊
James great selection off photographs. I meet you last year in June 2023 in Central London while i was doing street photography in Oxford Circus you was with Mike Chudley and one other photographer.
Man, this is honestly one of the best "walk and shoot" video that I've ever watched. Not only because of the quality of the photos, but also because you're very didactic and clear on your process/thoughts. Really inspiring. Congrats, man! I'm already waiting for the book :)
Congrats on the video and the great pictures. I love the composition and story telling. The combo is perfect and I love the image quality. Wich software do you use to work on the pictures? Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much! I use Lightroom to edit all of my photos, mainly using the presets I have on my buymeacoffee.com link in description where you can download them for free
IMHO, the overarching story there is definitely Romans coping with the record-breaking heat. I might have tended to focus in on that as a photo essay, given that it was historical weather. Still some nice captures, though, and good on ya for toughing it out. Sorry to hear that the M11 started cooking - 115°F is no joke and that kind of heat convection isn't kind to lithium-ion battery chemistry. The M bodies are very compact without very much insulation around the battery compartment, so I assume the chassis probably transferred a lot of thermal energy inside.
Sometimes, I often try to critical focus. My goal is to become very proficient with the manual focus which will help me further down the line! Does that make sense?
Great content. I love Italy, so I just had to take a look. So many brilliant shots.👌 On my last trip, my M11 also got so warm that it warned me about overheating and turned off image sequence. lol.
Thank you so much my dude! It turned off image sequencing? Thats such a random thing to decide to de-prioritise to keep the camera working ahah Thank you for the support man!
I just left you a comment on the other video about me not trusting this camera. 😅 It’s a thing with this camera. Removing the battery and lockups. It’s just the way it is. And that’s not good enough for me. So M10R it is for me and forever. I don’t like where the Leica M is going. When I bought my M10R the M11 was about a month away from being announced. I still went for the M10R and I don’t regret it. Now you see why.
I think you did amazingly well to do so much in that heat! I went out in 100ºF in Florida once just to see what it was like but I wimped out and didn't go far! So many lovely photos but I do love the one with the tree and the wall at 3:49. Last summer I was in Nice and it was about 35ºC and I had issues with my X100F. When I turned it on, every now and then the electronic viewfinder wouldn't activate and I'd have to take the battery out and put it in again. A bit concerning as it was the only camera I'd taken! It worked flawlessly once I got home (UK). Thanks for another great video!!
Thank you so much! Yeah my friends Nikon decided to pack itself in the day before when it was 43 degrees, so it definitely wasn't a Leica only issue! Glad you liked the video and the images - Really appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment and support the channel!
Well done on persevering in the heat and finding these gems, James. As striking as the shots inside the Vatican are, my favourite would have to be the weird and wonderful image of the woman carting around a box of cornflakes in Rome!
Thank you dude! I actually got sick the day after so glad I pushed through haha. I've had a lot of love for the Cornflakes picture haha. Big love for leaving a comment my dude ❤️
@@JamesParsons1 Sometimes it would freeze and I would have to remove and replace the battery. It seems that this problem is common (but non-existent on the m11 monochrom).

Both those Vatican shots are spectacular and well worth the patience! Incidentally, my Leica Q2 turned itself off in very hot conditions last week. It didn't immediately turn back on either but after a minute all was OK. A nervy moment though. I recall the Q2 doing the same thing once last summer as well.
Love the photos of the people with their heads in the fountain. They really tell the story of this summer in Europe. Glad your camera survived to tell another tale 😂
Great perseverance in those adverse conditions! I suppose that if you really wanted to learn the boundaries of operation of that camera, you might consider a street shoot in an arctic town this winter when it’s -30C or colder! PS: Would love to see more of that Formula E or other motor sports shoot!
Thank you my dude! Glad I managed to just about get through without melting (ish) yeah I'd be more worried about my camera in the -30 degrees ahaha. I've been thinking about creating more motorsport content on here, but not sure how to position it ahaha
Great seeing u posting again James! Rome is great for street. But man... that heat looked horrible.. I've almost gave up living in 37c in Spain once.. but went full lobster and battled on in 46c.:) I found the image of the guy telling u take a hike funny to :)

i love your photos but i'm always afraid of invading people's privacy with street photography. could you do a video on your approach to taking pictures of strangers with/without consent, and what is too far for street photography?
I have photographed Sicily and the Basilicata all Summer with a Sony a7r3 and I have had no such problem. I used to own a Leica M6 in 1987. Well before the digital era, and I went to Thailand with it. I accoutered some heat related issues too. The film would not roll up properly and I I would end up with many unusable double or triple exposures. I am sorry I threw away most of the slides, because now I could probably pull some cool abstract shots from them. I got rid of the M6 when I got back to England and didn’t shoot anything for about 15 years…
I live in Thailand. Very hot. My M10R works flawlessly. Have been using it for 2 years without issues. The battery pull outs and lock ups are a well documented M11 issue.

Yeah man- surprised by Mike’s issue to be fair. During the weekend my colleagues Nikon’s overheated and corrupted his memory card, so not sure it's a Leica only problem!
Man I'd hate to buy a camera that pricey and supposedly high end for it to just overheat without even being used intensely (as in sensor turned on permanently, shooting bursts etc). I've used my Canon R6 for hours under similar heat without it ever turning off, it only showed the warning a couple times, and it's a camera known for its tendency to overheat though not as bad at the R5. Awesome vid though, and the basilica shots are incredible.
Thank you my dude ❤️ to be fair, my friend who was shooting on a Nikon Z9 (what ever their top mirrorless is) had the camera die and corrupt some images he needed for client's... 46 degrees ain't no joke for camera kit ahaha
46 degrees in the shadow, will mean a black camera will be super exposed in the sun. I don't think you could blame the M here. And stating in the title, that the camera broke, is maybe a little unfair....
@@JJ_Photo Pretty sure 46° would be the perceived temp, you'd die staying outside in the sun at a 46° air temperature lol. Google says peak temp this year in Rome was 42° on the 18th of July (highs of 49 in Sardinia and Sicily though, holy crap), so a couple degrees above what I was shooting under last year near Nimes in France. These are temps under which cameras would struggle but professional gear should be able to avoid shutting down. I understand Leica Ms are not designed for extreme use, but I'd still be disappointed that a camera priced that high doesn't have better cooling or insulation. Just my opinion though, it's not like I could afford one anyway, even though a rangefinder sure sounds like fun :)
